[Rusheng San] Treats blood deficiency in women leading to stagnation and accumulation of blood, manifesting as acute pain in the lower abdomen, difficult labor, and menstrual obstruction. This formula is Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) with the addition of Rougui (Cinnamon Twig).
Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) 3-7 qian, Shudi (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata) 3-4 qian, Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) 2 qian, stir-fried with wine; Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) 1 qian; Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex) 1-3 qian. If accompanied by stomach cold or qi stagnation, add Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Sharen (Amomi Fructus), or Honghua (Carthami Flos) stir-fried with wine.
[Liangfang] Treats Xuejia (Blood Mass). [Formed by the coagulation of blood stasis, lying hidden in obscure places, knotted and firmly fixed, requiring herbs that break and invigorate blood.]
Danpi (Moutan Cortex), Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Dangguiwei (Radix Angelicae Sinensis caulis), Yanhusuo (Corydalis Rhizoma) 3 fen, Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix), Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), Ezhu (Curcumae Rhizoma) 6 fen, Sanleng (Sparganii Rhizoma) 4 fen. Decoct with half water and half wine.
Danpi, Guixin, Chishao, and Niuxiv act to move blood. Sanleng, Ezhu, Dangguiwei, and Yanhusuo act to move qi stagnation within blood and blood stagnation within qi, ensuring the free flow of qi and blood.
Treats delayed menstruation. The flow is scanty and astringent, accompanied by obesity. [Obesity with delayed, scanty, and astringent menstruation indicates qi deficiency with phlegm stagnation.]
Danggui, Chuanxiong, Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Fuling (Poria), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Juhong (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Rubrum), Banxia (Pinelliae Tuber). Decoct with fresh ginger.
Erchen Tang (Two-Aged Decoction) treats phlegm stagnation; Renshen and Baizhu tonify qi deficiency (when qi moves, phlegm moves); Chuanxiong and Danggui invigorate menstrual blood.
Treats women who have suffered excessive worry and depression, damaging the source of the Heart, Spleen, Chong Mai (Penetrating Vessel), and Ren Mai (Conception Vessel). Qi and blood gradually become depleted, leading to irregular menstruation.
Danggui 2-3 qian, Shudi 3-5 qian, Zaoren (Ziziphi Spinosae Semen) 2 qian, Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Fushen (Poria cum Radice) 1.5 qian, Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) 1 qian, roasted; Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium). Add Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma) stir-fried with wine, 1-2 qian.
Treats persistent metrorrhagia and metrostaxis. [Bleeding not at the proper time, dripping continuously, is called Louxia (Leaking Down). Sudden profuse bleeding, like a mountain collapse, is called Bengzhong (Central Collapse). The five colors correspond to the five Zang organs.]
Zonglu (Livistonae Folium) charred, Wumei (Mume Fructus) 1 liang, Heijiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Carbonisatum) 0.5 liang. Take 2 qian per dose, washed down with Wumei decoction.
Astringency stops bleeding, hence Zonglu is used. Sourness consolidates, hence Wumei is used. Warmth maintains the middle jiao, hence Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) is used. Black color stops bleeding, hence they are used together.
