Treats Spleen deficiency with weak Qi, and indigestion of food.
Bai Zhu (Stir-fried with soil) Ren Shen (2 liang) Mai Ya Chen Pi (2 liang) Shan Zha (pitted, half a liang) Zhi Shi (3 liang)
Made into pills using Shen Qu paste.
The Spleen and Stomach are the officials of the granary. When the Stomach is deficient, it cannot accept and receive food, hence there is lack of appetite. When the Spleen is deficient, it cannot transform and transport, hence accumulation and stagnation occur. The reason for this is Qi deficiency. Ren Shen and Bai Zhu tonify Qi; Chen Pi promotes the movement of Qi. When Qi moves, the Spleen becomes robust and the Stomach strong. Shan Zha eliminates meat accumulation; Mai Ya eliminates grain accumulation. Because Wu (Stomach belongs to Earth of Wu) and Ji (Spleen belongs to Earth of Ji) energies are insufficient. (The Stomach is Earth of Wu, the Spleen is Earth of Ji.) Therefore, these two herbs are used to assist their digestion. Zhi Shi has potent strength, capable of eliminating accumulation and resolving masses. Assisted by Ren Shen and Bai Zhu, its efficacy is more rapid without damaging Qi. Since the Spleen and Stomach are injured, they must be tonified. Since food is difficult to digest, one should employ digestion-promoting methods. Combining these two approaches,
Remove Shan Zha and Mai Ya, add Fu Ling and Zhi Gan Cao, named Yi Qi Jian Pi Wan (Qi-Boosting Spleen-Strengthening Pill), treating Spleen deficiency with poor appetite. Remove Shan Zha, Mai Ya, and Chen Pi, add Dang Gui, Shao Yao, Xiong [Chuan Xiong], Zhi Shi... [Text fragment]
