Due to irregular diet, the Spleen Qi (Spleen Energy) is damaged. In mild cases, symptoms include dizziness, fever, weakness in the four limbs, and loss of appetite, with a deep and tight pulse; one should take Laifu Dan (Revival Pill), Quanzhen Dan (Complete Truth Pill), and Pingwei San (Stomach-Pacifying Powder). In severe cases, all six pulses are floating and tight, accompanied by headache, fever, vomiting and regurgitation, and epigastric fullness/stuffiness; taking Bichengqie San (Litsea Cubeba Powder), Laifu Dan, and Quanzhen Dan will lead to recovery. If quack doctors mistakenly administer purgative or cold-cooling medicines, further severely damaging the Spleen Qi, other diseases may arise, resulting in conditions such as deficiency consumption (Xu Lao), abdominal distension (Gu Zhang), and diarrhea. In such emergencies, moxibustion at Zhongwan (CV12) for fifty cones and Guanyuan (CV4) for one hundred cones should be performed immediately to preserve life; if cold medicines are taken, death will occur swiftly. (Internal injury syndromes: dietary irregularity is only one aspect. There are also cases caused by overexertion, emotional stagnation, anger, sorrow, worry, excessive thinking, joy, fear, shock, rage, or strange grief. These arise because the Seven Emotions do not enter in their proper sequence, directly injuring the Five Zang Organs. Furthermore, internal injuries can result from sexual indiscretion or falls/trauma. Practitioners must examine these carefully.)
Huo Luan (Cholera-like syndrome) results from external contraction of Wind-Cold and internal damage from raw/cold foods, causing an intermingling of Yin and Yang, leading to vomiting and diarrhea. At the onset, taking two qian of Zhenzhu San (Pearl Powder) leads to recovery, or taking one hundred pills of Jinye Dan (Golden Fluid Pill) also works. If Cold pathogen enters the abdomen and binds to the sinews and vessels, causing spasmodic twisting of the sinews, heat a tile, wrap it in paper, and apply it to the site of the sinuspasm; this brings immediate recovery. If after vomiting and diarrhea, Stomach Qi is greatly depleted, with deep and fine pulses and cold extremities, this indicates that True Yang is about to collapse. Moxibustion at Zhongwan (CV12) for fifty cones and Guanyuan (CV4) for three hundred cones will restore the pulses; without moxibustion, death ensues. (Huo Luan syndrome involves the failure of the Triple Burner to transport and transform, and injury to the Middle Earth [Spleen/Stomach]. It presents with sudden heart and abdominal pain, frequent vomiting and diarrhea, chaotic turmoil, and severe restlessness. The major principle is to warm the Triple Burner and regulate the Middle Earth; one dose can cure it. However, if cold extremities and absence of pulse occur, heavy use of warming and tonifying measures is indispensable; otherwise, sinuspasm entering the abdomen leads to death. Contemporary physicians often attribute this to Summerheat or Sha Fa (Sha Syndrome), prohibiting official-grade medicines and instead using cold/ice substances, pricking Lianquan (CV23), needling Quze (PC3), and draining large amounts of blood. They fail to realize that the Spleen and Stomach are injured and the Ying Blood (Nutritive Blood) of the Middle Jiao is exhausted; further massive bloodletting is like throwing a stone down a well. Such physicians disregard human life, truly possessing wolf hearts and tiger bellies! Those who harbor the intention to save lives must investigate this thoroughly.)
