The prescription for Wanbing Jiedu Dan (Ten Thousand Diseases Detoxifying Elixir) is detailed in medical books. I have seen the version prepared by the Prince's mansion; its ingredients were authentic and pure, stored in cabinets. Whenever strange diseases were encountered, recovery was immediate. I once said that officials who encounter good medicines, such as Pig Kidney (Zhu Yaozi), Panax notoginseng root (Sanqi), Dragon's blood resin (Xuejie), Ferula gum-resin (Awei), Flower coralline stone (Huarui Shi), Rattlesnake (Ranshe), and Toad (Chansha), should carefully store them, waiting for critical moments to use them, capable of turning death into life. A single pot of this medicine is worth a thousand gold. Although compiling medical books in seclusion is not the grand undertaking of high ministers, does not understanding medicine constitute a duty for children?
*Yangsheng Zhu Lun* (Treatise on the Master of Life) states: "I once associated with scholars in the Luoyang area, often hearing gentlemen praise an individual skilled in treating back sores, lamenting his lack of opportunity. His methods were described as miraculous and strange. Suddenly, one day, a man accompanied by a Daoist practitioner came to stay at my villa for several days, claiming expertise in treating back sores. Upon inquiry, it was indeed him. When asked about his prescription, he was evasive, stating that his teacher received this herb from an immortal. Even in June, touching it felt as cold as ice and snow. One day, arriving outside the villa, he suddenly exclaimed, 'Fortunately, this immortal herb is here,' and earnestly entrusted it to me. I sighed and agreed, saying, 'This is Belamcanda chinensis rhizome (Shegan).' The Daoist practitioner said, 'I previously sold herbs in Huaixi when the government conscripted doctors for military campaigns. I fled deep into the mountains and met an old woman aged over a hundred, who claimed to be a physician of the Yuan dynasty's Wanyan clan, having fled there during the fall of the Jin dynasty. She passed down this herb and Shouxing San (Longevity Star Powder), specifically for malignant sores, saving countless lives. She also wrote down a formula called Dibianzhu San (Ground Bamboo Powder), using Belamcanda chinensis rhizome (Shegan) powdered. Belamcanda chinensis rhizome (Shegan) is commonly known as Dibianzhu, originally a garden plant with leaves resembling Galangal (Liangjiang) and roots like bamboo rhizomes. Its color when first blooming resembles gold. Another ingredient: take approximately three characters' worth of powder (using a small coin measure), mix with warm wine and ingest. If the disease is in the upper body, mild vomiting occurs; if in the lower body, mild diarrhea occurs. I used it to help people with divine efficacy. I still used plasters to close the wounds. Shouxing San (Longevity Star Powder) is specifically for malignant sores with unbearable pain. Applying it stops the pain; applying it when there is no pain restores sensation. It uses only Rhizoma Typhonii (Dan Nanxing, processed Arisaema rhizome) powdered. For severe back sores, applying it all over allows rest; for non-painful sores, applying until sensation returns indicates treatability."
Sun Gongzhishu, a surgeon, was naturally compassionate and intelligent, with extensive knowledge and a deep understanding of the properties and flavors of hundreds of herbs. He created a 'Five Poisons' preparation using Cinnabar (Dansha), Realgar (Xionghuang), Alum (Fanshi), Magnetite (Cishi), and Melanterite (Shidan). His theory likely took Cinnabar (Dansha) to nourish blood and benefit the Heart, Realgar (Xionghuang) to promote flesh growth and tonify the Spleen, Alum (Fanshi) to regulate adipose tissue and assist the Lung, Magnetite (Cishi) to unblock bone fluid and strengthen the Kidney, and Melanterite (Shidan) to treat tendons and nourish the Liver. Externally treating five types of sores corresponds internally to the Five Zang organs. Constrained with yellow copper masks and cooked with fire control, the resulting medicine applied to sores produced miraculous effects. One patient developed a carbuncle that ruptured overnight, in a critical state. Applying the aforementioned medicine led to immediate recovery. Whether this formula is recorded in current medical books is unknown, and it is rarely used in the world. I record it carefully, awaiting those who deeply understand medical principles to adopt it.
The application of medical formulas varies: some are effective in one case but not another; effective for one usage but not repeated use; effective for one person but not another; effective in one year but not another. This is due to differences in northern and southern climates, depth of disease, social status, and favorable conditions according to the ruling Qi of the year. A skilled physician understands the mechanisms of Heaven and Earth, changes of Yin and Yang, positions of rank, and causes of Zang-Fu disorders. This is perhaps the essence of acquiring medical knowledge. Nevertheless, although medicine is one, why is it effective for others but not for me, effective before but not after? It depends on a person's virtue, their fortune, and the sincerity of their intent to save others. *Tui Feng Wu Yu* ends.
Postscript to *Wu Yu*
Formerly, Huaxu Zi, upon waking from a dream, questioned Tianni Sheng with his words. Tianni Sheng asked, "Is your current state a dream, or was the previous state not a waking reality?" Huaxu Zi was bewildered, suspecting it was sleep-talking. This refers to the ancient debate of the banana deer, illustrating that truth lies in the highest Dao, where both dream and waking are forgotten. Reading Tingzi Zhongtiao's *Wu Yu*, which covers past and present, gathers previous hearsay, and integrates a hundred schools, encountering passages that stir the mind, I believe Li Zi has awakened. Is he borrowing these words to awaken the world? I strive to awaken those difficult to awaken. Those blinded by sensory experience, becoming like Niu Xu, how can they know not to regard Li Zi's words as sleep-talking? Although Li Zi has achieved enlightenment to dispel ignorance, regarding the truth of the highest Dao where dream and waking are forgotten beyond words, where in the world is there a Tianni Sheng to question?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. The way of medicine is best defined by preventing disease from worsening. Preventing worsening is best achieved by treating disease immediately. This preserves wealth and honor, distinguishing poverty from nobility.
2. Small methods like using grass to induce sneezing may seem insignificant, but this method originates from *Neijing* (The Inner Canon).
3. *Shanghan Lun* (Treatise on Cold Damage) states: If Gui Zhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction) fails to resolve symptoms, first puncture Fengchi (GB20) and Fengfu (GV16). (Fengchi (GB20) is located in the depression behind the ear, where pressure radiates into the ear. Fengfu (GV16) is located above the nape hairline, in the depression between the large tendons.) Alternatively, press three fingers closely together and rub horizontally across the back of the head hairline towards both ears until slightly hot, which can also dispel Wind.
4. For throat closure preventing swallowing, grasp the neck skin horizontally with one hand while administering medicine with the other. Because the neck skin tightens horizontally, the throat skin opens vertically. I learned this method and tested it successfully.
5. For stroke-induced lockjaw preventing medication administration, soak dried plum meat (Wumei) in water until soft, wrap it around a chopstick tip with green cloth, and wipe. Saliva flow will open the jaw.
6. Upper teeth belong to the Stomach; lower teeth belong to the Large Intestine. Frying and roasting cause heat accumulation in the intestines and stomach, damaging teeth. Regularly mix Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao) 5 qian, Mirabilite (Yuanmingfen) 3 qian, and Chalcanthite (Danfan) half a qian into powder. After morning washing, brush teeth with this powder to strengthen them.
7. Elderly people with lost teeth must spit out food residue to avoid stagnation.
8. *Neijing* says: "Sages avoid wind as they avoid arrows and stones." I did not believe this in youth, but believe it now in old age.
9. Dongpo ate Poria cocos sclerotium (Fuling) throughout his life; drinkers especially should emulate this.
10. Lou Ying said: "Head sweating after drinking indicates Blood pathology. Head sweating concentrated on the forehead also indicates Blood pathology, as the forehead belongs to the Heart region." This is an accurate evaluation.
11. Pain in the supraorbital ridge resolves with Bai Zhi (Angelica dahurica root); this location corresponds to the Zan Zhu (BL2) acupoint.
12. Zhang Congzheng in *Rumen Shiqin* (Intimate Conversations for Laypeople) stated: Health preservation and disease attack are fundamentally different. Using tonic formulas to treat disease explains their ineffectiveness.
13. Zhao Yangkui in *Yiguan* (Medical Classic) stated: Food stagnation in the Taiyin is called Food Syncope. Pulse present below, absent above; if not vomited, death ensues. In cases of colic and abdominal cramping where touch is intolerable, purgatives are contraindicated. For blood stasis, Peach Kernel (Taoren) and Safflower (Honghua) are essential. For water retention, Kansui Root (Gansui) and Morning Glory Seed (Qianniu) are essential. For blood stasis in water, Leech (Shuizhi) and Horsefly (Mengchong) are essential. Zhao insisted Six Flavor Rehmia Pill (Liudai Wan) could treat all diseases, yet holds this view, further proving treatment is not solely reliant on tonification.
14. Zhang Congzheng said: Stagnation begins subtly and can be resolved through breathing and massage. Forced tonification retains it, leading to the Five Accumulations.
15. Coughs often result from Wind-Cold. Must vigorously dispel Wind and assist digestion. Initially, sputum is white and thin, salty in taste. Severe coughing pulls abdominal skin; this is not water flooding transforming into phlegm. As it heals, sputum thickens and turns yellow. Even if coughing lasts one or two months, cloying/nourishing medicines are contraindicated.
16. Hemorrhage and spermatorrhea are considered advanced Consumption diseases. However, there must be a cause. Following *Neijing*'s "Address the primary cause first, subdue the main pathogen," all recover. Using tonics prevents cure.
17. Sweat is the treasure of the body. Closing sweat pores in summer causes illness. People say cold prevents sweating, but extreme heat also prevents sweating. Using Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao) to induce sweat addresses this.
18. Aconite Root (Fuzi) is the true spirit of the Black Tortoise of the North, suppressing Water pathogens, powerfully moving water. Using Aconite Root (Fuzi) is not just to assist Yang, but actually to break Yin. For Water-Cold presenting with external Heat signs, test with one or two doses first. If no Heat remains, switch to Aconite Root (Fuzi). Do not arbitrarily switch between Hot and Cold medicines based on misinterpretation.
19. For body joint soreness, Qiang Huo (Notopterygium root) and Du Huo (Pubescent Angelica root) stop it on the same day; this is highly effective.
20. In Taiyang Disease pulse, floating Yang and weak Yin refer to Cun (inch) and Chi (cubit) pulses respectively, indicating disease is upper, not lower. Weak Yin should not be diagnosed as Yin Deficiency.
21. Massage therapy has been lost for a long time; this method is indispensable.
22. *Nanjing* (Classic of Difficult Issues) states: Hand Triple Burner meridians affected by Wind-Cold lingering without exiting are called Jue Headache, distinct from Jueyin Headache.
23. "True Headache, hands and feet turn blue to the joints, death, untreatable." Ancient texts used Qing (blue/green) and Qing (clear/cold) interchangeably, meaning cold/clammy. True Heart Pain, hands and feet turn blue to the joints, also untreatable, referring to cold extremities.
24. Three Dukes sitting discussing the Dao is the affair of sage kings and virtuous chancellors. Yao Jiheng claimed *Suwen* (Basic Questions) is forced and Huangdi-Qibo dialogues absurd. His narrow-mindedness is severe.
25. Yao also said: "*Bencao Jing" (Divine Farmer's Materia Medica) is absent from Han records. Emperor Ping's edict calling for experts in herbal medicine marks the first appearance of the name.* Since Emperor Ping summoned those knowing Bencao, pre-Han existence of *Bencao Jing* is evident. Yet he claims: "This must be Eastern Han fabrication." Did Emperor Ping summon Eastern Han experts?
26. In *Shanghan Lun*, "Qing" in Qinggu (clear stool) and Qingbian (clear urine) refers to the character Qing (toilet/latrine), synonymous with Hun. *Tangyun* pronounces it Qing; *Jiyun* pronounces it Qing. *Shuowen*: Toilet is Qing. Da Xu says: Toilet was anciently called Qing, implying filth should be cleared. Hun means toilet. Pronounced Qing.
27. Yin-Yang and Five Elements discuss distant years. Ten Heavenly Stems Jia, Bing, Wu, Geng, Ren are Yang; Yi, Ding, Si, Xin, Gui are Yin. Jue, Zhi, Gong, Shang, Yu; five Tai are Yang, five Shao are Yin. This is Yin-Yang. Jia-Ji transform to Earth; Yi-Geng to Metal; Bing-Xin to Water; Ding-Ren to Wood; Wu-Gui to Fire. This is Five Elements. Not understanding this leads to errors like associating Fire with Bing and Water with Gui.
28. Taiyang Disease mistreated with purgatives becomes Heat-Excess Jie Xiong (Chest Binding); Taiyin Disease mistreated becomes Cold-Excess Jie Xiong. After mistreatment, pathogen sinks inward, becoming excess, which is logical. But today, only mistreatment with tonics causes excess; do we realize mistreatment with purgatives also causes excess?
29. Xuan Fu Dai Zhe Tang (Inula and Hematite Decoction) treats persistent belching. Belching is sound-based. Here termed Qi because, per *Analects* "words and tone," it implies food Qi escaping.
