。
Sweet and sour in flavor, warm or slightly warm in nature, non-toxic. It primarily treats leukorrhea with foul blood, alternating chills and fever (Hanre), convulsions and epilepsy (Jingxian), tonifies Qi, strengthens willpower, promotes tooth growth, prevents aging, treats deficiency exhaustion manifesting as shivering like malaria (Xu Lao Sajia Rumie), emaciation, soreness and pain in the four limbs, pain in the waist and spine, frequent urination, seminal emission and hematuria, breaks up retained blood in the abdomen, disperses stone stranguria (Shi Lin), abscesses and swellings, directs rebellious Qi downward from the bones, kills demonic essences and entities, should not be brought near the genitals as it causes impotence, and long-term use promotes longevity. It is harvested when the antlers are shed in April and May, dried in the shade, ensuring they do not become too dry at times. Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang) serves as its guide drug.
[Note] Deer antler velvet (Lurong), if harvested in summer and dried in the shade, yields less than one percent; even if obtained dry, it may have an unpleasant odor and be unusable. Breaking it and drying it over fire is highly desirable. Antler (Jiao), salty in flavor and non-toxic, treats malignant sores, abscesses and swellings, expels evil and pathogenic Qi, and retained blood in the Yin regions. It alleviates urgent pain from blood stasis in the lower abdomen, pain in the waist and spine, traumatic injuries with foul blood, and tonifies Qi. Harvested in July. Eucommiae Cortex (Duzhong) serves as its guide drug. Marrow (Sui), sweet in flavor and warm, treats mid-body injury with severed meridians in men and women, tendon spasms and pain, and cough with upward-rebellious Qi. Taken mixed with wine, it is effective. Kidney (Shen), neutral in nature, primarily tonifies Kidney Qi. Meat (Rou), warm in nature, tonifies the Middle Jiao, strengthens the Five Zang organs, and boosts Qi and strength. Raw meat treated by slicing thinly cures facial paralysis (Koubi). Whether the animal lives or dies without fault, thus Daoists permit it to be made into dried meat (Fu). Other meats, although beef, mutton, chicken, and dog can nourish and fill the skin and muscles, are considered transgressions against the departed souls and are not worth consuming. Any dried meat that does not move when roasted, moves when seeing water, or does not dry when exposed to sun, all kill people. Furthermore, dried meat dripping from a thatched roof is called "leaking dried meat" (Loufu), and dried meat stored tightly in vessels is called "stagnant dried meat" (Yufu); neither is edible.
[Note] Head (Tou), treats diabetes mellitus (Xiaoke); when decocted, it can make glue, which is beneficial when taken. Tendons (Jin), treat labor damage and reconnect severed tissues. Bones (Gu), treat deficiency exhaustion, can be used for wine infusion, treat wind pathogens, and tonify deficiency. Bone marrow fat (Gu Suizhi), treats abscesses and swellings, dead flesh, warms the Middle Jiao, immobility of the four limbs, headaches (Fengtou), opens the interstices (Couli); some say it should not be brought near the genitals. Antler (Jiao), treats cat-gui poisoning and evil influences, and pouring pain in the heart and abdomen. Blood (Xue), treats rabies bites, epistaxis (Bini), traumatic injuries, impotence, tonifies deficiency, and stops lower back pain. Teeth (Chi), treat retained Qi and blood, scrofula (Shuluo), and pain in the heart and abdomen; should not be brought near the male genitals.
