Book: Puji Fang (Universal Effective Prescriptions)
Author: Zhu Zi
Dynasty: Ming Dynasty, Yongle 4th Year
Chapter: Chuan Shi Fu Lian (With Discussion) (1/3)
Category: Formulas
[Translation]
The so-called "Chuan Shi" (Transmitting Corpse Disease) and "Fu Lian" (Continuous Transmission) both originate from Gu Zheng (Bone-steaming fever, a chronic consumptive disease characterized by bone heat and emaciation) and Dun Shi (Hidden Corpse, referring to pathogenic factors latent in the body that manifest with seasons or emotions). This illness often arises from weeping near a corpse, allowing corpse qi to enter the abdomen, persisting continuously. It may last three to five years; although the patient can eat, their flesh does not grow. Or it may flare up every three to five days, triggered by slight exertion. The pain is mostly located in the bones of the forehead. Usually, there is no sensation, but a feeling of heat occurs. After the patient dies, another person in the household contracts the disease, transmitting in this manner, hence the name "Fu Lian."
