Qi-toxin Scrofula (Qi-du Luo Li, scrofula caused by qi toxin) is caused by wind-heat and qi toxin attacking the Lung. The Lung governs the circulation of Qi to all Zang-Fu organs. If the meridians are congested and blocked, Wei Qi (Defensive Qi) becomes stagnant and cannot be disseminated and circulated. Pathogenic heat and Qi contend with each other, accumulating between the skin and muscles, thereby generating Scrofula. Additionally, excessive worry and insufficient rest, or anger injuring the Qi of the Heart, Lung, and Liver, can cause toxin stagnation in the chest and diaphragm. This leads to obstruction and涩ness (stagnation) in the Zang-Fu organs, causing Qi and Blood to coagulate and remain, thus also resulting in Qi-toxin Scrofula.

Formulas
Binglang San (Areca Nut Powder) [from *Shenghui Fang*]: Treats Qi-toxin Scrofula. Symptoms include congestion and oppression in the heart and diaphragm, and inability to eat.
Ingredients: Areca Seed (Binglang), Peucedanum Root (Qianhu, de-radicle), Red Poria (Chi Fuling), Cowherb Seed (Niubangzi, each 1 liang, stir-fried), Ginseng Root (Renshen, de-radicle), Aurantium Fruit (Zhiqiao, bran-stir-fried until yellow, remove white pith), Saposhnikovia Root (Fangfeng, de-radicle), Agastache Rhizome (Chenxiang, each 0.5 liang), Licorice Root (Gancao, honey-fried until slightly red, cut into pieces, 1 qian).
Preparation and Administration: Grind the above ingredients into a powder. Take 4 qian per dose. Add 1 cup of water and 0.5 portion of fresh ginger. Decoct until 0.6 cup remains, strain, and take warm on an empty stomach and before evening meal.

Formula for treating Qi-toxin Scrofula with nodular swelling and pain, promoting internal resolution [from *Shenghui Fang*].
Ingredients: Fermented Soybean (Douchi, 1 he, soaked in hot water overnight, ground into paste like sticky cream, squeezed through cloth to extract juice and discard dregs), Leech (Shuizhi, 1 piece, stir-fried until slightly yellow), Dove Droppings (Bogefen, 1 liang, slightly stir-fried), Bat Guano (Yemingcha, 2 liang, slightly stir-fried), Angelica Sinensis Root (Danggui, 0.5 liang), Red Peony Root (Chishaoyao, 0.5 liang), Frankincense (Xunluxiang/Ruxiang, 0.5 liang), Alum Ash (Baifanhui, 1 qian), Chicken Egg (Jizi, 2 eggs, shell removed).
Preparation and Administration: Grind the ingredients (except Douchi juice) into fine powder. Mix evenly with the Douchi juice. Wrap in oiled paper and steam over rice until cooked. Remove, mix with a little honey, and form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 10 pills with warm wine before meals.

Zaojia Wan (Soap Pod Pill) [from *Shenghui Fang*]: Treats Wind-toxin Scrofula. Symptoms include hard, painful swelling, intermittent chills and fever, loss of appetite, and progressive emaciation.
Ingredients: Soap Pod (Zaojia, 5 pods, remove black skin, coat with butter and stir-fry until slightly yellow and scorched, remove seeds), Snail (Woniuzi, 50 pieces, stir-fried until slightly yellow), Realgar (Xionghuang, 10 liang, finely ground), Polygonum Multiflorum Root (Heshouwu), Chenruanzao (aged soft date), Forsythia Fruit (Lianqiao, each 1 liang), Musk (Shexiang, 1 qian, finely ground), Borneol (Naozhang/Bingpian, 1 qian, finely ground), Mylabris (Yanjing, 7 pieces, stir-fried with glutinous rice until rice turns yellow, remove head and wings).
Preparation and Administration: Grind all ingredients into fine powder. Mix thoroughly. Combine with refined honey to form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 7 pills with Scrophularia Decoction (Xuanshen Tang) before meals.

External application formula for Wind-toxin accumulation causing Scrofula, which gradually increases in number and becomes hard. Apply this medicine to make the lesion ulcerate and discharge spontaneously [from *Shenghui Fang*].
Ingredients: Swallow Droppings (Yanfen), Mylabris (Banmao), Mylabris (Yanjing), Yellow Arsenic (Pi Huang, each 1 liang), Indigo Naturalis (Qingdai), Musk (Shexiang, each 1 qian), Mercury (Shuiyin, size of one soap pod seed), Pig Fat (Zhuzhi, 0.5 liang).
Preparation and Application: First grind Mercury in Pig Fat until no mercury stars remain. Add other medicines and grind finely. Apply a quantity the size of a mung bean to the Scrofula lesion. Cover with a paper flower made from vinegar-paste flour. Alternatively, pierce the lesion first. After 5-7 days, when the lesion ulcerates and red threads break, gradually peel off the paper. The Scrofula will discharge with the medicine. Wash with warm broth from boiled pig trotters afterwards, and apply another plaster to stop pain and generate flesh.

Hai Jinhua Wan (Sea Flower Pill) [from *Shenghui Fang*]: Treats Qi-toxin Scrofula with hard, unresolving nodules and day-and-night pain.
Ingredients: Hai Jinhua, Clove (Dingxiang), Amber (Hupo, finely ground, each 1 qian), Tortoise Shell (Baigui, coated with butter and stir-fried until yellow), Sweet Descurainia Seed (Tiantingli, stir-fried between papers until purple, each 1 qian), Musk (Shexiang, 1 qian, finely ground), Soap Pod (Zaojia, 20 pods, stir-fried and powdered).
Preparation and Administration: Grind into fine powder and mix evenly. Form pills with refined honey the size of paulownia seeds. Take 50 pills with warm water before meals. The disease should exit via urination and defecation.

Banmao Wan (Mylabris Pill) [from *Shenghui Fang*]: Treats Qi-toxin Scrofula. Promotes internal resolution upon ingestion.
Ingredients: Mylabris (Banmao, 1 liang, remove head, feet, and wings, stir-fried with glutinous rice until yellow), Musk (Shexiang, 0.5 liang, finely ground), Cinnabar (Zhusha, 0.5 liang, finely ground), Dried Ginger (Ganjiang, 3 qian, raw), Licorice Root (Gancao, 0.5 liang, raw and cut), Rhinoceros Horn (Xijiao, 0.5 liang), Millet (Sumi, 2 he, slightly stir-fried).
Preparation and Administration: Grind into fine powder and mix evenly. Use natural juice from the white bark of Malva Root (Shukui Gen) as a binder to form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 5 pills with Malva Root Decoction on an empty stomach and before bed.

Heshouwu Wan (Polygonum Multiflorum Pill) [from *Shenghui Fang*]: Treats Qi-toxin causing stagnation in the heart and diaphragm, Scrofula in the neck, and difficulty in the throat.
Ingredients: Polygonum Multiflorum Root (Heshouwu), Kelp (Kunbu, washed to remove saltiness, each 2 liang), Sparrow Droppings (Queerfen, 1 liang, slightly stir-fried), Realgar (Xionghuang, 0.5 liang, finely ground), Musk (Shexiang, 1 qian, finely ground), Soap Pod (Zaojia, 10 pods, remove black skin, coat with butter, stir-fry until yellow, remove seeds).
Preparation and Administration: Grind into fine powder and mix with previously ground ingredients. Cut 1 jin of lean white sheep meat finely, grind again, and form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 50 pills with Schizonepeta Decoction (Jingjie Tang) after meals.

Bohe Wan (Mint Pill) [from *Shenghui Fang*]: Treats Qi-toxin Scrofula. Symptoms include cold and heat oppression in the chest and heart, swelling in the neck, hypochondriac pain, and loss of appetite.
Ingredients: Dried Mint (Gan Bohe, 1 liang), Costus Root (Muxiang, 1 liang), Forsythia Fruit (Lianqiao, 1 liang), Green Tangerine Peel (Qingju pi, soaked in water, remove white pith, dried, 1 liang), Musk (Shexiang, 1 qian, finely ground), Soap Pod (Zaojia, 10 pods, 1 chi long, non-borer, soak in grain water for 3 days, extract juice and reduce to paste).
Preparation and Administration: Decoct with Soap Pod juice and form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 10 pills with Schizonepeta Decoction (Jingjie Tang) on an empty stomach and before evening meal.

Nifen Wan (Calomel Pill) [from *Shenghui Fang*]: Suitable for Qi-toxin Scrofula with hard nodules and intractable pain.
Ingredients: Calomel (Nifen, 1 qian), Lead Oxide (Dingfen, 0.5 liang, slightly stir-fried), Bat Guano (Yemingcha, 1 liang, slightly stir-fried), Cassia Twig (Guixin, 0.5 liang), Rhinoceros Horn (Xijiao, 3 qian), Mylabris (Banmao, 1 qian, stir-fried with glutinous rice until yellow, remove head, feet, wings).
Preparation and Administration: Grind uniformly. Bind with soft rice to form pills the size of mung beans. Take 5 pills with warm wine before meals.

Liuhuang Wan (Sulfur Pill) [from *Shenghui Fang*]: Treats Wind-toxin Scrofula. Nodules are hard as stone and extremely painful.
Ingredients: Sulfur (Liuhuang, 1 qian, finely ground), Musk (Shexiang, 1 qian, finely ground), Chicken Egg (Jizi, 1 egg, boiled and peeled), Soap Pod (Zaojiao, 1 qian, powder), Mylabris (Banmao, 27 pieces, clean, remove head, feet, wings, stir-fried with glutinous rice until yellow), Morning Glory Seed (Qianniuzi, 1 qian, slightly stir-fried and powdered).
Preparation and Administration: Grind together and bind with soft rice to form pills the size of small beans. Take 5 pills with Ginseng Decoction (Renshen Tang) before meals.

Another Formula [from *Shenghui Fang*]
Ingredients: Costus Root (Muxiang, 0.5 liang), Black Snake (Wushe, 3 liang, soaked in wine, remove skin and bones, stir-fried until yellow), Dried Scorpion (Ganxie, 1 liang, slightly stir-fried), Soap Thorn (Zaozhen, 13 liang, stir-fried until yellow), Woodpecker (Zhuomu Niao, 1 bird, burned to ash).
Preparation and Administration: Grind into powder. Form pills with refined honey the size of paulownia seeds. Take 15 pills with Mint Decoction (Bohe Tang), three times daily.

Another Formula [from *Shenghui Fang*]: Treats Qi-toxin Scrofula with nodular swelling and pain.
Ingredients: Mylabris (Banmao, 0.5 liang, remove head, feet, wings, stir-fried with glutinous rice until yellow), Morning Glory Seed (Qianniuzi, 1 liang, raw), Male Sparrow Droppings (Xiongquefen, 3 qian), Aurantium Fruit (Zhiqiao, 1 liang, bran-stir-fried until slightly yellow, remove white pith).
Preparation and Administration: Grind into powder. Take 1 qian at dawn (wugeng) mixed with porridge drink. If vomiting occurs, administer Aurantium Decoction (Zhiqiao Tang). Evil matter should be discharged in the afternoon.

Woni San (Snail Powder) [from *Shenghui Fang*]: Treats Wind-toxin Scrofula occurring in the neck and axilla, resembling peaches or plums in clusters, varying in size, with hard, painful swelling.
Ingredients: Snail Shell (Woni ke, 1 qian, powdered), Soap Pod Seed (Zaojiao zi, remove skin, powdered, 1 qian), Frankincense (Ruxiang), Qilian (Qilian), Calomel (Nifen, each 2 qian).
Preparation and Administration: Grind into powder. Crack one chicken egg, separate the white from the yolk, mix with the powder, and return to the shell. Wrap in two layers of wet paper and steam in a rice steamer until the rice is cooked. Remove. Chew and swallow with five-flavor juice on an empty stomach, then rinse mouth with warm water. After a while, discharge green matter. Young patients take one dose; elderly patients divide into two doses. Dosage may be adjusted as needed before administration.

Zaojiao Zi Wan (Soap Pod Seed Pill) [from *Shenghui Fang*]: Treats Qi-toxin Scrofula with hard, painful nodules.
Ingredients: Soap Pod Seed (Zaojiao zi, 20 pieces, stir-fried until ripe), Croton Seed (Badou, 1 piece, remove skin and oil core, grind finely), Frankincense (Ruxiang, 2 qian), Mylabris (Banmao, 1 piece, stir-fried with glutinous rice until yellow, remove head, feet, wings).
Preparation and Administration: Grind into powder. Bind with soft rice to form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 2 pills with warm wine on an empty stomach.

Formula for treating Qi-toxin Scrofula with nodular swelling not yet ulcerated, promoting internal resolution [from *Shenghui Fang*].
Ingredients: Oak White Bark (Hu baidi, 3 jin, cut), Clove (Dingxiang, 1 liang, powdered), Musk (Shexiang, 0.5 liang, finely ground).
Preparation and Administration: Boil 5 dou of water in a large pot. First decoct the Oak Bark until reduced to 1 dou. Strain. Continue simmering slowly to form a paste. Add Clove and Musk. Stir evenly. Store in a porcelain vessel. Take half a spoonful mixed with warm wine before meals.

Tianling San (Heavenly Spirit Powder) [from *Shenghui Fang*]: Treats Qi-toxin Scrofula spreading along the neck and flowing into the hypochondrium and axilla, presenting with heads and pain.
Ingredients: Human Skull Cap (Tianlinggai, 1 liang, preferably with blood color, wash 5-7 times with Mugwort water, coat with butter, stir-fry until yellow), Tiger Tibia Bone (Hujingggu, 1 liang, coat with butter, stir-fry until yellow).
Preparation and Administration: Grind into powder. Take 3 qian mixed with Scallion Wine on an empty stomach, and repeat before the evening meal.

Another Formula [from *Shenghui Fang*]
Ingredients: Snail (Woniuzi, 20 pieces, raw, remove shell, slightly stir-fry until yellow), Mint (Bohe, 1 liang, dried), Clove (Dingxiang, 0.5 liang).
Preparation and Administration: Grind into powder. Form pills with refined honey the size of paulownia seeds. Take 30 pills with Schizonepeta Decoction (Jingjie Tang) before meals.

For treating Scrofula that is hard as stone and extremely painful.
Ingredients: Trogopterus Dung (Wulingzhi, 2 liang, soaked in vinegar), Soap Pod (Zaojia, 10 pods, non-borer, remove black skin, coat with butter, stir-fry, remove seeds).
Preparation and Administration: Pound Soap Pod into powder. Bind with Wulingzhi paste to form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 9 pills with Mint Decoction (Bohe Tang) in the morning, and 10 pills with warm wine before bed.

Another Formula [from *Shenghui Fang*]
Ingredients: Soap Thorn (Zaojiao zhen, 1 liang, burned to ash), Oak White Bark (Hu baidi, powdered, 1 liang).
Preparation and Administration: Grind finely together. Take 2 qian mixed with warm wine before meals.

For treating Qi Goiter (Qi Ying).
Method: Crush Fresh Kalimeris Indica (Chijiao Malan) finely and apply to the affected area.

For treating Qi-toxin Scrofula [from *Shenghui Fang*].
Method: Take 1 jin of Soap Pod Seeds (non-borer), remove skin and seeds, coat with butter, stir-fry until yellow, and grind into powder. Cut 0.5 jin of lean lamb meat finely and grind into a paste. Mix with the powder and form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 15 pills before meals with a decoction of crushed Soap Thorns. After one month of taking this medicine, significant efficacy is expected.
