Dystocia in women is all caused by dryness, astringency, tightness, and contraction of the birth canal, preventing it from opening. It is advisable to start taking Yi Yuan San (Yi Yuan Powder), mixed with long-flowing water, on the first day of the month preceding delivery, taken three times daily, which will facilitate delivery. Postpartum, there will be no disorders of deficiency-heat or disharmony of Qi and Blood. If not yet in the month preceding delivery, it should not be taken, because Hua Shi (Talcum) has the effect of promoting abortion.
Formulas
Hua Tai Wan (Slippery Fetus Pill) (from *Sheng Hui Fang*): Used during pregnancy to facilitate delivery and tonify Qi.
Chi Fu Ling (Red Poria), Chi Shao Yao (Red Peony Root) (each 1 liang), Bing Lang (Areca Seed) (2 liang), Xiong Qiong (Sichuan Lovage Rhizome) (0.5 liang), He Li Le Pi (Pericarpium Chebulae) (3 qian), Zhi Ke (Aurantium Fructus) (0.5 liang, stir-fried with bran until slightly yellow, remove pith), Chuan Da Huang (Rhubarb Radix et Rhizoma) (1 liang, sliced, slightly stir-fried), Mai Men Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix) (1.5 liang, remove heart, baked), Nong Po (Magnolia Bark) (peeled, stir-fried with ginger, 1 liang). The above are crushed, sieved into powder, mixed with refined honey, pounded for 300-500 strokes, and formed into pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 20 pills before meals with warm wine.
Gan Cao San (Licorice Powder) (from *Sheng Hui Fang*): Taken before the month of delivery; when the baby is born, the mother feels nothing.
Gan Cao (Licorice Root) (2 liang, honey-fried), Huang Qin (Scutellaria Root) (3 liang, soaked in wine), Da Ma Ren (Cannabis Seed) (3 qian), Wu Zhu Yu (Evodia Fruit) (3 qian, washed seven times with hot water, then stir-fried), Gan Jiang (Dried Ginger) (2 qian, processed), Da Dou Huang Juan (Prepared Soybean Sprout) (1 liang, grown in damp soil, dried, use the sprouts), Rou Gui (Cinnamon Bark) (3 qian, peeled). The above are finely ground into a powder. Each day, take 1 qian on an empty stomach mixed with rice drink.
Formula to facilitate easy delivery if taken before the onset of labor. (from *Sheng Hui Fang*)
Dong Kui Zi (Malva Seed) (1 he), Hua Shi (Talcum) (1.5 liang), Qu Mai (Dianthus Herb) (stir-fried), Dan Shen (Salvia Root) (each 1.5 liang), Niu Su (Cow Butter), Bai Mi (White Honey) (each 1 he). The above are crushed and sieved. Decoct with one large cup of water until half remains, strain, add butter and honey, and mix. Take one spoonful on an empty stomach with rice drink, and take again before meals.
Yu Bai Pi San (Elm Bark Powder) (from *San Yin Fang*): Treats dystocia by taking beforehand to facilitate delivery.
Yu Bai Pi (Ulmi Cortex), Huai Pi (Sophora Bark), Qu Mai (Dianthus Herb), Mu Tong (Akebia Stem), Da Ma Ren (Cannabis Seed) (equal parts). The above are cut into pieces. Take five large qian per dose, with two cups of water, decoct until 70% remains, strain, and take twice daily.
Divine Efficacy Formula for Slippery Fetus and Urging Birth.
Yi Yuan San (Yi Yuan Powder) (1 liang), She Tui (Snake Slough) (one strip, burned to ash, must be from a wall or fence), Chan Tui (Cicada Slough) (five whole pieces), Nan Zi Luan Fa (Men's Loose Hair) (boiled until dissolved in 1 liang of oil), Chuan Shan Jia (Pangolin Scale) (one piece, burned to retain properties). The above are made into powder. Mix with one bowl of vinegar water, boil once, stir evenly with the hair, and take cold.
Butter Paste to Facilitate Delivery. Start taking it in the month of delivery; the baby will be born without the mother noticing. For difficult deliveries lasting several days, or abnormal births where hundreds of methods have failed without peace, taking this paste always yields divine efficacy. Initially take only half a spoonful, gradually increase to one spoonful. Too much may cause vomiting and reflux; adjust dosage according to judgment.
Zhen Niu Su (True Cow Butter) (1 sheng), Qiu Kui Zi (Malva Seed) (1 jin), Bai Mi (White Honey) (0.5 jin), Hua Shi (Talcum) (1 liang, powdered), Qu Mai (Dianthus Herb) (1 liang, stir-fried), Da Dou Huang Juan (Prepared Soybean Sprout) (5 qian). The above are crushed into coarse powder. First, grind the Kui Zi finely with 1 jin of clear wine, add to the butter and honey, melt over low heat, then add the other medicines. Simmer slowly, stirring constantly.
Dan Shen Gao (Salvia Paste)
Hua Tai Cu Sheng San (Slippery Fetus and Urging Birth Powder) (from *Sheng Hui Fang*)
Kui Zi (Malva Seed), Hua Shi (Talcum) (each 1 liang), Pu Huang (Typha Pollen), Mu Tong (Akebia Stem) (cut, each 0.5 liang). The above are finely ground into powder. Take 1 qian before meals mixed with warm wine.
Formula to Facilitate Easy Delivery. (from *Sheng Hui Fang*)
Bai Mi (White Honey) (1 he), Zhu Zhi (Pork Fat) (2 he), Jiu (Wine) (0.5 jin). The above are slowly boiled in a silver vessel until slightly thick. Take one large spoonful on an empty stomach with wine.
Yu Bai Pi San (Elm Bark Powder) (from Yu Ju Shi's Selected Strange Formulas): Treats slippery fetus in pregnancy for easy birth.
Yu Bai Pi (Ulmi Cortex), Gan Cao (Licorice Root) (each 2 liang), Kui Zi (Malva Seed) (1 liang). The above are coarse powder. Take 3 qian per dose, with one cup of water, decoct until 70% remains, strain, and take warm. Another version without Elm Bark is named Kui Zi San (Malva Seed Powder).
Che Qian Zi San (Plantago Seed Powder) (from *Sheng Hui Fang*): Facilitates slippery fetus for easy delivery.
E Jiao (Donkey-Hide Gelatin) (8 liang), Hua Shi (Talcum) (3 liang), Che Qian Zi (Plantago Seed) (1 sheng). The above are processed and sieved. Take one cun bi (square inch measure) with water, twice daily. Start taking medicine only in the month of delivery. It benefits the nine orifices; do not take earlier. Another method uses honey water for mixing.
Shen Qin Wan (Divine Sleep Pill): Treats slippery fetus for easy delivery. Take it when entering the month of delivery; extremely effective. Formula of Shi Shao Qing, Zhizhou, transmitted by Xu Da Cheng.
Tong Ming Ru Xiang (Transparent Frankincense) (0.5 liang, separately ground), Zhi Ke (Aurantium Fructus) (1 liang). The above are fine powder, mixed with refined honey into pills the size of paulownia seeds. Swallow 30 pills on an empty stomach with warm wine.
Mu Xiang (Costus Root) in equal parts: Treats insufficient fetal Qi in women, making the fetus slippery and easy to deliver. Regular use nourishes the fetus, tonifies Qi, and harmonizes the uterus.
Zhi Ke San (Aurantium Fructus Powder) (also known as Liu Yi San): Slims the fetus for easy delivery, suppresses Yang, descends Qi. Also treats all evil diseases in the fetus. Effective when taken by Princess Huyang.
Zhi Ke (Aurantium Fructus) (small, thick ones, stir-fried with bran, remove pith, 2 liang; another method: soak in glutinous rice, drain, stir-fry until red, which is better). The above are fine powder. Take 2 qian per dose mixed with boiling water. On an empty stomach, take three times daily. Can be taken starting from the seventh month. Avoid climbing high toilets. If stool is constipated and dry, add Fang Feng (Saposhnikovia Root). If the body is weak, add Dang Gui (Angelica Sinensis) (remove tail) and Mu Xiang (Costus Root) in equal parts. If the fetus is fat and obstructed, movement is difficult, and delivery is hard at term, add Ru Xiang (Frankincense) and Fa Hui (Hair Ash) for efficacy. Zhi Ke can expel water, reduce distension and rebellious Qi. If taken in excess near term, there will be no distension or rebellious Qi at delivery, making the birth canal smooth and easy. Truly beneficial to the world. Also treats various intestinal diseases, descends Qi, widens the chest. Add 1 liang of stir-fried, de-haired Xiang Fu (Cyperus Rhizome) as powder, mixed with ginger water. For cold qi attacking and piercing pain in hypochondrium, mix with scallion white water. For Spleen cold, blood stasis forming masses causing pain, mix with hot wine. For obstruction of urination and defecation, use Bai Qian Niu (White Morning Glory Seed) as powder, added to hot water. Another formula: 6 liang Zhi Ke, 1 liang Gan Cao, thus adding Zhi Ke and reducing Gan Cao, because Gan Cao is cold in nature for those not yet delivered. One month before delivery, take three times daily. Avoid climbing high toilets. Another formula for cold qi: chew finely, mix with scallion white and hot wine. For chest and diaphragm Qi blockage, loss of appetite, mix with scallion white water. For Kidney Qi swelling and pain, roast 2 cun of scallion white, mix with a pinch of Huixiang (Fennel Seed), chew together and swallow with hot wine. If taken for a long time, it will never trigger labor. For Qi pain in waist and back, mix with scallion white water. Lie down immediately after taking; effectiveness comes shortly. For Hong Kong Foot (gout/arthralgia) onset, take on empty stomach with hot wine or Qu Pa (Papaya) decoction. For postpartum Qi and Blood disharmony, mix with hot wine. For heart and abdominal pain, spitting clear fluid, loss of appetite, chest distension, mix with salt water. For spleen injury by cold foods, unpredictable pain, mix with pepper decoction. For women with blood syncope, temporal pain, dizziness wanting to fall, take Ai Ye (Mugwort Leaf) decoction. For children with yellow face and cold stomach, vomiting food, mix with Qu Pa decoction. For women with amenorrhea, hot hands and feet, or tidal fever, first use scallion white water, then Shi Chang Pu (Acorus Rhizome) water. If amenorrhea persists and Spleen/Stomach are strong, use Da Sheng San (Great Sage Powder). Especially effective after several months. If menstrual irregularity and cold pain in blood organs occur, use Da Sheng San, occasionally combined with Xiao Wen Jing Tang (Minor Warming Menses Decoction), assisted by Hong Wan Zi (Red Pills).

Use 1 liang of Qian Niu Zi (Morning Glory Seed), a little red earth, grind finely. Whenever contractions are felt, decoct Yu Bai Pi (Elm Bark) water, mix with 1 qian and take.
Zhi Ke San (Aurantium Fructus Powder): Treats slippery fetus, regulates Qi, benefits chest and diaphragm, eliminates stagnation, harmonizes Spleen and Stomach, promotes appetite. Regular use is also acceptable.
Zhi Ke (Aurantium Fructus) (2 liang), Sang Bai Pi (Mulberry Root Bark) (1 liang, cut, decoct with three bowls of water together with Zhi Ke until dry, remove pith, wash clean, slice finely, bake dry, use only Sang Bai Pi), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix) (0.5 liang), Nuomi (Glutinous Rice) (2 liang, stir-fry until yellow), Mu Xiang (Costus Root) (1 qian, avoid direct fire), Gan Cao (Licorice Root) (1 liang, honey-fried), Mai Ya (Malt) (0.5 liang, stir-fry until yellow). The above...

Another Formula
Shu Tai Wan (Fetus-Binding Pill) (from *Bao Ming Ji*)
Bai Zhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome), Zhi Ke (Aurantium Fructus) (remove pith, stir-fry, equal parts). The above are powder, made into pills the size of paulownia seeds using cooked rice. On the first day of the delivery month, take 30-50 pills before meals with warm water. The fetus becomes thin and easy to deliver. Stop taking upon delivery.
Treats women experiencing whole-body pain at labor, rupture of membranes and bleeding, unable to resolve. Urging Birth Formula. Must wait until membranes rupture and bleeding starts before taking. If membranes have not ruptured and bleeding has not started, but whole-body pain is severe, sudden relief of lower back pain, or heavy body for several days, it can also be taken. Generally, whole-body pain must include lower back pain to indicate impending labor. If not true labor, taking this medicine mistakenly will harm the mother's life. Only take if true labor fails to progress.
Guan Gui (Cinnamon Twig) (2 liang, avoid direct fire, peeled), Mu Dan Pi (Moutan Cortex), Dang Gui (Angelica Sinensis), Niu Xi (Achyranthes Root), Mu Tong (Akebia Stem), Hua Shi (Talcum), Dong Kui Zi (Malva Seed). The above are fine powder. Take 6 qian per dose, with 1.5 cups of water, 5 stalks of scallion, decoct until 1.3 cups remain. Take with the dregs on an empty stomach. After walking about a *li*, take again. Continue until the baby is born.
Treats premature labor desire before full term. (from *Ben Cao*)
Take the eastern branch of a locust tree, let the pregnant woman hold it in hand to facilitate delivery.
Another Formula (from *Ben Cao*)
Crush Acorus root to extract juice, 1-2 sheng, pour into the throat.
Mainly for Easy Delivery (from *Ben Cao*)
Burn bowstring to ash, make into powder, take 2 qian with wine, immediate easy birth. Another method: tie under the heart, immediate birth.
Another Formula (from *Ben Cao*)
Take 1 qian of She Xiang (Musk), grind with water, mix and take, immediate birth.
