There are insects (parasites) in all five Zang organs. These insects transform when exposed to wind. The Lung opens into the nose. If the Lung meridian is deficient, wind-heat pathogens take advantage of this deficiency. Nasal qi becomes obstructed and cannot circulate freely.
Consequently, gan insects (parasites associated with malnutrition/toxicity) can erode tissues, causing sores to form in the nose.

Prescriptions:
Chungen Tang (Toona Root Decoction), treats gan insects eroding the mouth and nose.
Chungen (Toonae Radicis Cortex, cut into pieces, 1 sheng, peeled), Yan (Halitum, 0.5 he), Congbai (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus, cut into pieces, 0.5 sheng), Jiao (Zanthoxyli Pericarpium, remove eyes and closed-mouth ones, stir-fry until oil comes out, 1 he), Chi (Fermented Soybean, 0.5 sheng). Mix the above ingredients together. Add vinegar and 3 sheng of clear rice-washing water. Boil for more than ten boils. Remove the dregs. The remaining liquid should be about 1 sheng. Divide into three doses. Effect is seen when foul matter is discharged. For children, adjust the dosage according to age and size.

Treating red sores on the nose.
Shitingzhi (likely referring to a preparation involving Shiwei and other ingredients, or a specific local remedy name), Qingfen (Calomelas), Jixinbinglang (Arecae Semen, 1 liang each), Piannao (Borneolum Syntheticum, 0.5 qian). Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Mix well and apply to the face using saliva as a binder.
Apply before going to bed. It has great miraculous effects.

Rusheng San (Like-Sage Powder), treats gan insects eroding the nose causing sores, and redness/ulceration under the nose.
Hufen (Cerussa, 0.5 liang), Shexiang (Moschus, grind into one spoonful), Tianguadi (Cucumeris Fructus, seven fruits ground into powder and mixed with Hufen). Grind the above again uniformly. Chan Su (Bufonis Venenum) soaked in a small amount, apply to the red ulcerated areas. For children, use one pill each time.

Wuxiang San (Black Aconite Fragrant Powder), treats nasal gan sores, eroding the nasal bridge.
Caowutou (Aconiti Radix, burn to ash), Shexiang (Moschus, grind, equal parts). Grind the above together finely. Apply a small amount directly onto the sore.

Qingjin San (Green Gold Powder), treats gan insects eroding the nose causing sores, and nasal discharge causing maceration/ulceration.
Tongqing (Vermisapis, i.e., Verdigris), Baifan (Alumen, raw grind, equal parts). Grind the above together into a powder. Apply a small amount to the sore each time. Children can also use it.

Treating gan insects eroding the nose causing sores (from *Shibian Liangfang*)
Use a copper chopstick tip heated until red, quench it in vinegar. Repeat several times. Collect the vinegar and apply it to the affected area.

Yinxie Fang (Silver Scale Formula), treats gan insects eroding the mouth, nose, lips, and cheeks causing sores. For penetrating sores, wash the sore.
Yinxie (Silver scale/flakes, 10 liang), Water 3 sheng. Decoct to obtain 1 sheng of liquid. Wash the sore 3-4 times a day. Must be decocted in a copper vessel.

Another prescription (from *Shibian Liangfang*)
Wrap Xiijiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu) ash in cotton wool. Place it there at night while sleeping.

Another prescription (from *Shibian Liangfang*)
Burn Niu Gu (Ovis/Capra Os) to ash. Mix with pig fat from the twelfth lunar month and apply to the affected area. Cured.

Treating gan insects eroding the nose causing sores (from *Bencao*)
Burn Apricot kernels. Press to extract oil and apply to the affected area.

Treating acute nasal/oral gan insect erosion, where death is imminent within days.
Apply Lanjian (Indigofera tinctoria leaf dye) to cover the area completely. Apply ten times during the day and four times at night. Immediate cure.
