The eyes belong to the Liver. The Liver receives blood and enables vision; thus, the visual function of the eyes must rely on blood. If damage occurs due to external objects, causing the blood vessels to scatter and become chaotic, then ruined blood will invade the eyeball and pour into the pupil (Tongren). The pain is like needle pricking, yet there is no pterygium or membrane. This condition may also arise from the obstruction of Liver Qi, where blood has nowhere to return. Treatment should guide the blood back to the Liver. If wind-heat lingers and stagnates in the chest and diaphragm, blood will ascend and pour into the eyes. There are also cases caused by improper use of acupuncture, where evil blood fails to dissipate and flows into the eye, causing unbearable pain. Early treatment is necessary to prevent further damage.
The *Longmu Lun* states: Regarding "blood pouring into the pupil" with an external obstruction, when this eye disease first appears, it is suddenly caused by accidental injury from an object or improper acupuncture manipulation. This leads to one eye being affected first, which then spreads to affect both. This is likely because the pain is unbearable; when sleeping, the healthy eye is placed on the pillow, allowing the toxic blood to flow towards the affected eye, initially harming the good eye, resulting in damage to both. Initially, it is appropriate to take Moyao San (Myrrh Powder) to stop the pain, followed by Zhuixue Mingmu Wan (Blood-Descending and Vision-Brightening Pill), and applying Mosha Shi San (Mosha Stone Powder) for immediate effect.
A song says:
When the eyes are injured by piercing, the Five Wheels are compromised,
Pain in the orbit feels as if pierced by an awl.
When lying down, place the good eye on the pillow,
To let the evil blood flow away and protect the light.
Alas, the pure and flawless membrane sinks,
The pearl-like globe is submerged, a perilous state.
You must use Posuo Stone as medicine to apply,
To return the evil blood to its home (Liver).
