Diseases of phlegm-toxin stagnation in the Lung organ present with symptoms such as dizziness and vertigo (Xuan Yun), chest and diaphragm fullness and distension (Pi Man), frequent expectoration of saliva and phlegm, loss of appetite, and a perception of foul or fishy odor in the nose. This is because the Lung governs Qi and resides above the diaphragm, acting as the canopy (Hua Gai) for the five zang organs. When pathogenic heat stagnates and steams the chest and diaphragm, body fluids interact and clump together, thereby condensing into phlegm.
Formulas:
Banxia San (Pinellia Powder), sourced from *Shenghui Fang*, treats long-standing accumulation of phlegm-toxin in the Lung organ, which remains stagnant in the chest and diaphragm, leading to reduced appetite.
Ingredients: Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, 1 liang, washed seven times with decoction to remove slipperiness), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix, 0.5 liang), Renshen (Ginseng Radix, 1 liang, removed rhizome), Binglang (Arecae Semen, 3 fen), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix, 0.5 liang, removed rhizome), Chenjupi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 3 fen, soaked in water, white pith removed, dried), Qianhu (Peucedani Radix, 1 liang, removed rhizome), Chifuling (Poria Cocos with Red Bark, 2 liang), Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex, 0.5 liang), Xuanfuhua (Inulae Flos, 0.5 liang), Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Radix, 1 liang, removed heart), Pipaye (Eriobotryae Folium, 3 fen, hairs wiped off, stir-fried until slightly yellow), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma, 3 fen), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 0.5 liang, stir-fried until slightly red and crushed), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus, 2 liang, stir-fried with bran until slightly yellow, pith removed). The above ingredients are processed into a powder. Each dose consists of 3 qian, decocted with one zhong zhan of water and 0.5 ban of fresh ginger, reduced to 6 fen, then filtered. Take warm, at any time. Avoid fried, hot foods, wheat products, and pork or dog meat.
