Kidney Excess-Heat Syndrome. The pulse at the left hand's Chi position, posterior to Shenmen, presents as Yin-excess, indicating a pathology of the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian. The Kidney stores Essence; when pathogenic factors are in excess, Yang Qi becomes hyperactive. Hyperactivity of Yang Qi generates internal heat. Patients often suffer from Bi syndrome (obstruction syndrome), with body fever, dry tongue and throat, swollen and painful throat, mental restlessness and pain, dry pharynx, intermittent pain in the chest and hypochondrium, asthma, cough, and sweating, abdominal distension and fullness, stiffness and tension in the lower back and waist, heavy body sensation, and bone heat. Urine is dark yellow. The patient exhibits irritability and forgetfulness, heat and pain in the soles of the feet, fullness and pain in the calves, blackish discoloration of the four limbs, and deafness. If the pulse is floating and tight, it indicates Kidney Excess-Heat (The Mai Jing states: In Kidney Excess-Heat, patients suffer from bladder distension and closure, with pulling pain between the lower abdomen and the lumbar spine).
Kidney and Bladder Dual Excess Syndrome. The pulse at the left hand's Chi position, posterior to Shenmen, presents as both Yin and Yang positions being excess. Patients suffer from spinal stiffness and opisthotonos (backward arching of the body), fixed upward gaze (Daiyan), Qi rushing up to strike the heart, severe back pain preventing self-turning or side-bending, mania (Dianji), heaviness of the head with pulling pain in the eyes, syncope with an urge to run, reversed eyes, profuse sweating due to Great Wind disease. This condition is named Kidney and Bladder Dual Excess.
