Dig a pit in the ground quickly. Bury the bitten area in it. Compact the soil above firmly. The venom will be drawn out into the soil. After a short while, when the pain subsides, remove the limb and slowly treat with medicine.
Treat snake bites and pit viper stings. (From *Zhouhou Beiji Fang*)
Quickly take centipede (*Scolopendra subspinipes mutilans*), pound it into a paste, and apply to the painful area. This is extremely effective. Secure the medicine gently with a silk cloth. Alternatively, apply head scurf (dandruff) to the wound. Another method: burn centipede.
Treat green snake bites. (From *Qianjin Fang*)
Apply realgar powder (*Xionghuang*) to the sore. Healing occurs when fluid resembling boiling water oozes out. Copper verdigris (*Tongqing*) can also be applied inside the sore.

Use a mulberry wood knife heated until red, apply a small amount of musk (*Shexiang*) on it, and cauterize the bite site with the knife back until the skin breaks. It will heal immediately.

Use wild wolf's tooth herb (*Yelangya Cao*). Use leaves before June, roots after June. Chew raw, wrap in oak leaf (*Huye*), heat over fire, wrap in cloth, and apply to the site. Replace when cool.

Pound vinegar grass (*Cuzhao*) thoroughly and apply to the sting site. Cover with head scurf. Change frequently. Vinegar grass resembles young, tender alfalfa seedlings.
Treat human bites by snakes.
Cook pig manure until charred and powdered. Add one handful of indigo plant (*Lan*). Boil in three sheng of water until reduced to two sheng. Add the pig manure powder, mix, and wash the wound. It will heal.

Pound wild wolf's tooth herb (*Yelangya*). Mix with lard from the twelfth lunar month. Apply to the venomous area for immediate healing. Yang Yan's Southern Journey Prescription states: use leaves before June, roots after June.

Mix beeswax and honey in equal parts. Melt in a pan. Place a jointless bamboo tube over the sore. Pour the wax-honey mixture into the tube so it flows down into the wound. It will heal. Honey is optional; wax alone works.

Urine urgently into the wound. Draw a sword, face the sun, hold breath, walk three steps. Dig a small pit with the sword. Pour hot water into the pit. Take the mud, form three pills the size of paulownia seeds. Swallow them. Apply a little mud to the wound.

Tie a rope about one cun above the wound to prevent venom spread. Have someone suck the venom out with their mouth. Spit out repeatedly. When venom is exhausted, pain stops. Slight swelling at the mouth is harmless.
Treatment for snake bites
Seven days before the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, observe a fast. Do not eat alcohol, meat, or five pungent spices. Go to the mulberry tree to find *Tu Kui* (*Malva verticillata*) and memorize the location. On the noon of the fifth day, rub the shady side of the mulberry tree once. Find the *Tu Kui*, bite it, chew thoroughly. Coat hands with saliva, rub hands together to warm, then rub all over the body. Fast again on the seventh day as before. Do not wash hands for seven days. If bitten by snakes or scorpions later, rub the area with hand to heal.
Treat earth frog snakes and other snake injuries.
Grind *Popo Zhen* (*Artemisia selengensis*) or its leaves finely. Mix with well water and drink. Apply dregs externally. Severe cases heal within two or three doses.

Use four liang of salt and ten dou of water. Boil ten times. Once boiling settles, wash with the hot liquid. Replace when cool.
