**Banmao Powder**
Mylabris (remove head, feet, and wings), Adzuki Bean, White Stiff Silkworm, Bitter Dill Seed, White Dill Seed, Whetstone Mud. Equal parts of the above ingredients are ground into a fine powder. For those aged ten and above, take one qian. For those over twenty, take two qian. At the fifth watch (3-5 AM), mix with one cup of freshly drawn water and ingest. Efficacy will be seen at Chen hour (7-9 AM). Women will pass red and white discharge in urine two to three times. Men will pass earth-white substance in stool, with immediate effect. On the day of administration, consume only porridge and no other food. Strictly avoid greasy food. For patients suffering for three to four years, one dose is sufficient. For those suffering for seven to eight years, administer another dose.
**Xiangyao Pill**
Indicated for Scrofula (Lymphatic Tuberculosis).
Borax, Frankincense, Myrrh, Pinellia Tuber, Calomel, Red Halloysite (equal parts). The above ingredients are ground into a fine powder. Use glutinous rice flour to make pills the size of Chinese quince seeds. Take ten pills per dose, increasing up to twenty pills. Ingest before sleep with decoction of Soap Bean pods.
**Treatment for Scrofula** (from *Rumen Shiqin*)
Dragon's small intestine (one strip, processed and dried), Turtle shell skirt (processed), Toosendan Fruit (five pieces), Oyster Shell, Rhubarb, Burdock Fruit (burned until carbonized but retaining nature), Soap Bean pods (fifty pieces). The above ingredients are ground into a fine powder. Use steamed bread dough to make pills the size of mung beans. Take fifteen pills per dose after meals, with Mugwort tea. Three times daily.
**Treatment for Scrofula.**
First, moxibustion of three cones is applied on the ulcer. Then, soak the lesion with medicine. For the wound opening, cut a live eel to the length of one finger, slice it open longitudinally, and apply it directly onto the wound. After a short while, when itching is felt inside the wound, quickly remove the fish. Observe if there are fine worms resembling segments of a horse's tail on the fish; the worms emerge curled. Repeat this three to five times until all worms are removed. Then, use an astringent medicine for the wound.
Dragon Brain (Borneol, one qian), Musk (half qian), Realgar, Calomel (each half qian), Frankincense (one qian). The above ingredients are ground into powder. Use water paste to make pills the size of wheat grains. Use one or two pills each time, insert them into the wound opening. Swelling and pain indicate efficacy.
**Zijin Dan**
Indicated for Rat Fistula Ulcers.
Borax (one qian), Calomel (one qian two fen), Purple Powder (one qian half), Musk (one qian half), Arsenic Trioxide/Xinfen (one fen). The above ingredients are ground into a fine powder.
Rinse the ulcer with vinegar water and scallion white decoction, then dry and apply. Do this for three days; washing and applying three times yields results.
**Zuidu San** (from *Wangshi Puji Fang*)
Highly effective for Rat Fistula.
Clove Root, Musk (ground, one qian), Datura Seed (fifty grains), Male Rat Feces (seven grains, pointed at both ends, fried with two spoons of flour until yellow, discard flour), Oak Bark (three jin, remove rough bark, pound and chop finely, decoct with two dou of water to obtain four sheng, filter and reduce again until it becomes a paste, add other medicines), Mylabris (three pieces, remove feet and wings, fry with half yi of glutinous rice until yellow, discard rice). Except for Oak Bark, pound and grind the remaining medicines into powder. Warm the Oak Bark paste and mix evenly with the medicines. Store in a porcelain vessel. Take about one spoonful per dose. Mix with one cup of warm wine on an empty stomach. Adjust dosage according to the patient's deficiency/excess and fat/thin condition. After taking the medicine, lie supine until bedtime. Vomiting will occur shortly. If the disease root is deep-seated, vomited matter resembles toad skin or fish intestines; if recent, it resembles new flesh. After vomiting, rinse mouth with warm water and eat millet light porridge for nourishment; Japonica rice is also acceptable. Avoid all toxic foods for over a month.
**Zaojia Wan** (from *Shengji Zonglu*)
Indicated for Scrofula.
Soap Bean (three stalks, remove skin, coat with one liang of lard and roast as needed), Mint (dried leaves), Raw Rhubarb (chopped), Fangkui Root (each two liang), Calomel (small amount, ground), Pigeon (two pieces, boiled, use yolks equally). The above ingredients are ground into powder. Separately, crush five fresh soap bean stalks, add one dou of water, and rub to extract juice. Half a jin of wether mutton, remove fascia and membrane, and boil with soap bean water until it forms a paste. Mix with the powder to make pills the size of Chinese quince seeds. Take ten pills per dose before meals with rice drink. Twice daily.
**Treatment for Scrofula.**
Guang Mu Xiang (Aucklandia Root), Qing Mu Xiang (Vitality Root), Lead Monoxide (each half liang), Cold Water Stone (one liang), Alum (half liang), Renyan (Arsenic Trioxide, one qian, ground), Dragon Bone (one qian, ground), Calomel (half qian, ground), Copper Coin (one piece, dipped in vinegar three times, heated red and ground), Musk (small amount, ground). The above ingredients are ground into powder. Mix with garlic paste from a single clove to form pellets the size of wheat grains. If the ulcer has an opening, insert one pellet and seal with wax paper. If no opening, mix with garlic paste and seal with paper.
**Treatment for Scrofula.**
Mylabris (twenty-four pieces, remove head, feet, wings, fry with glutinous rice until yellow), Talcum (five qian half), Saposhnikovia Root (two qian half), Pangolin Scales (five qian, bran-fried until yellow, do not decoct), Amber (three qian, genuine). The above ingredients are ground into powder. Take three qian per dose on an empty stomach with rice drink. Take the medicine in the morning, and ingest once at Si hour (9-11 AM). Toxic substances will be discharged downwards. If the ulcer is broken, wash with mulberry twig water. Without starch, use wet silk cloth; after drying, apply finely ground ash from silver beating.
**Treatment for Scrofula** (from *Wei Shi Fang*)
Chinese Gall (Fivefold Galla), Cuttlebone, Betel Nut, Polyphelyllia Rhizome (each one qian), Trogopterus Dung (one qian), Musk (half qian, ground). The above ingredients are ground into powder. Apply dry with clear oil for rubbing. If damp, sprinkle dry powder.
**Neixiao Formula** (from *Shengji Zonglu*)
Indicated for Scrofula.
Ginseng, Talcum (each half liang), Cinnabar (ground, one fen), Musk (ground, half qian), Mylabris (fourteen pieces, remove head and feet, fry with glutinous rice until yellow, discard rice). The above ingredients are ground into powder. Take three qian per dose, mixed with warm wine.
**Shengji San**
Indicated for Scrofula.
White Halloysite (two qian half), Raw Alum (three qian, calcined), Lead Monoxide (one qian, ground), Dragon Bone (two qian), Calomel (half qian, ground), Musk (two fen, ground). The above ingredients are ground into powder. Apply twice daily, sprinkling dry powder onto the wound.
**Sanwu San** (from *Shengji Zonglu*)
Indicated for Scrofula.
Red Ladybug (sixty pieces, do not remove wings and feet), Rhubarb (half liang), Aged Millet (one ge, if unavailable use fresh millet). Stir-fry together until the rice turns yellow. Grind into a fine powder. Initial dose is one zi. Take on an empty stomach daily with wine. After the fourth day, take half qian. By the fifth to seventh day, pain in the hypochondrium and dysuria may occur; do not be alarmed, this is the medicinal effect. Continue with the following medicine.
Green Tangerine Peel (soaked in water, remove white pith, bake), Polygonum cuspidatum (equal parts). Grind into powder. Make pills the size of mung beans using vinegar-boiled wheat paste. Take five to seven pills per dose with Green Tangerine Peel tea. Alternate with the previous powder. Take after meals and before bed, twice daily. Follow with the following external application.
**External Application for Scrofula** (from *Shengji Zonglu*)
Use arsenic yellow from Xinzhou, grind finely. Add thick ink juice to make pills the size of Chinese quince seeds. Stir-fry in a pot until dry. Store in a bamboo tube. When using, moxa or puncture the affected area, crush half a pill and apply. Allow natural erosion and falling off. When the effect subsides, apply a small amount more.
**Qingfen Wan** (from *Shengji Zonglu*)
Indicated for Scrofula. Take this first.
Hen Egg (one, remove yolk, keep white, place in a cup, add Calomel one qian half, Seven Semen Crotonis seven pieces, new ones peeled and cored, put into the egg white with powder, steam until cooked, take out and grind in a mortar until uniform. Separately, take Calomel three qian bing, in palm, mix with patient's saliva to bind the previous medicine, make pills the size of mung beans.) Take five pills per dose with Schizonepeta and Mint tea. Take at dusk. If no improvement by Yi Geng (9-11 PM), administer more Mint tea. If abdominal pain occurs, take the next dose. The second time, collect the discharge in water to see if pathological roots and evil substances are expelled. If the disease is chronic, allow three times to expel all evil substances. The neck mass will gradually shrink. Avoid wind exposure. Rest for one month, then use tonic medicines.
Ginseng, Scrophularia Root, Sophora Root, Bai Yao Zi (equal parts, chopped and baked into coarse powder). Take one qian bing per dose, one cup of water, boil for three to five boils, strain and take warm. If diarrhea persists, use Coptis Rhizome and Dried Ginger each one qian, decoct and take. It will stop within three to five doses. If the wound is unbroken, use the following ointment for self-resolution. Zuona Cao (Half liang). Grind into powder. Use a small amount of millet, boil with wine into thin porridge, strain, take concentrated juice, mix with decoction to form ointment. Apply on cloth and patch. Do not move. The wound will heal permanently.
**Tuozhong San** (from *Shengji Zonglu*)
Indicated for Scrofula. Take this first.
Astragalus Root (chopped one liang), Licorice Root (roasted half liang). Grind into powder. Take one qian bing with water after meals daily. Twice in three days. Next, use the extraction medicine.
**Extraction Formula for Scrofula.**
Musk (one qian, ground), Toad Venom (ten pieces, pine seed size), Arsenic Trioxide (half qian, ground), Mylabris (ten pieces, remove feet and wings), Borneol (one qian, ground). Grind into powder. Use one qian of white flour, mix with water, add Indigo Naturalis powder. Each time, judge the size of the wound and apply appropriately. Moxibustion of three cones should still be performed. Wait for the wound to erupt. Use medicine sparingly.
**Douching Formula for Wound.**
Chinese Gall (one liang, stir-fried), Alum Stone (half liang, calcined). Grind into powder. Take about two qian each time, mix with one bowl of boiling water, douching stops when warm.
After each douching, dry with soft cloth. Sprinkle tissue-regenerating medicine on the wound.
**Cixiong San**
Empirical formula for Scrofula.
Mylabris (one male, one female, complete legs and wings, bake on tile; remove head, feet, wings from male), Cyathula Root, Chrysanthemum Carancanthi Seed, Licorice Root (half liang). Grind into fine powder. Divide into two doses. After full meal, mix with strong good tea, one cup, and ingest. Another method: ingest with clear tea at early dawn. If no movement by dawn, take half qian more. Effective if dysuria and pain occur. Do not take more. Strictly avoid toxic foods.
**Washing and Application Formula.**
Soak Schizonepeta in Angelica Dahurica decoction until warm. Wash and wipe dry with soft cloth. Apply good ointment. When thick fluid and evil substances are fully discharged, use the following:
Pinellia Tuber (raw, one qian), Arisaema Rhizome (two qian, ground), Dragon's Blood (one qian, ground), Calomel (one qian, ground). Grind into fine powder. Mix with saliva for application.
**Jiuyuan Astringent Formula for Wound.**
Dragon's Blood (one qian, ground), Jujube (calcined to ash, half qian), Musk (small amount, ground). Grind together, mix with saliva for application.
**Treatment for Various Fistula Diseases.**
Cinnabar, Arsenic Trioxide, Borax, Sodium Nitrate (equal parts). Grind finely in mortar. Mix with flour paste to shape like Cyperus Rotundus. Size according to wound, insert completely into the wound. If swelling is feared, apply ground Mint externally. After healing, use large Polyporus Bark and White Dill Seed ground into powder, insert entirely into the hole. If edges do not dry, use the following: Jiangzi (i.e., Seven Semen Crotonis, remove shell, any amount). Fry in sesame oil until red. Remove fire heat, discard Seven Semen, add beeswax to form ointment. Apply according to wound size. Mix Bletilla Striata powder with water to apply on the wound.
**Treatment for Rat Fistula Ulcer.**
Pig Trotter Nail (burned to retain nature, remove fire toxicity), Sand (small amount), Calomel (burned to retain nature, remove fire, ground to fine powder), Agarwood (as needed). Grind into fine powder. Unbroken: mix with clear oil for application. Broken: sprinkle dry powder.
**Yimo San**
Blister Beetle, Mylabris, Sulfur, Realgar. Equal parts ground into fine powder. Abrade the affected area, mix with vinegar for application.
**Bianli Dan**
Indicated for Fistula and similar ulcers.
Lead Monoxide, Realgar, Dragon Bone (eight parts), Jinjiaoxin (small amount, ground). Grind into powder. When pus and water dry, form into cake, wash with scallion white decoction. Apply on the ulcer.
**Ruxiang San**
Indicated for all types of fistula ulcers, whether new or chronic and unhealed.
Frankincense (one qian, ground), Arsenic Trioxide (one qian, ground), Borax (one qian half), Lead Monoxide (half qian, water levigated), Red Ladybug (fourteen pieces, remove wings and feet). Grind into powder. Mix with glutinous rice porridge to form cakes, size of three original coins, larger than a small coin. Apply on broken ulcer, bind with wheat flour paste. If unbroken, moxa seven cones. Large ones resolve within one month, the scrofula nodes fall off naturally. Afterwards, use astringent and tissue-regenerating medicine. Phellodendron Bark, any amount, ground into powder, bind with flour paste for application.
**Lianqiao Tang**
Indicated for Mar Dao (Scrofula of the neck/jaw).
Forsythia Fruit, Spermacoce Herb Flower (each one jin), Rhubarb (three liang, soaked in wine), Licorice Root (two liang, roasted). Chop coarsely, decoct in water and take. After ten-plus days, moxa Linqi point (GB19) for fourteen cones. Efficacy appears after fifty to sixty days of medication. For involvement of other meridians, another formula adds Rhubarb and Wood Vetch Stem five liang, Anemarrhena Rhizome (or Belamcanda Rhizome) five liang, Realgar seven fen, Areca Seed half liang. Reduce Licorice Root to zero. Grind all together into fine powder, mix with hot water and take three to five qian.
**Treatment for Rat Fistula Ulcer.**
Aucklandia Root (one liang half), Forsythia Fruit, Belamcanda Rhizome, Angelica Dahurica (each three qian). Grind into powder. Take with tea water after meals and before bed.
**Pingji External Paste for Scrofula.**
Juncus Ash, Frankincense, Lead Monoxide, Lead Carbonate (each half liang). Decoct in four liang of sesame oil to form ointment. Apply.
**Treatment for Fistula and Ma Shu Chuang.**
Verdigris, Mylabris, Arsenic Trioxide (equal parts). Grind into fine powder, mix with vinegar to make pills the size of rat feces. Use one stick, divide into three pills, place on the wound, cover with ointment. Dry application is also excellent.
**Sansheng Wan**
Indicated for Scrofula.
Clove (fifty pieces), Mylabris (ten pieces, whole), Musk (one qian, not ground). Grind into fine powder. Soak Salted Soybeans (fifty grains) until mud-like. Mix evenly with the above medicine, make pills the size of mung beans. Take five to seven pills per dose before meals with wine. Three times daily. After five to seven days, dysuria indicates medicinal effect. If green membranous material is passed after ingestion, it signifies removal of the disease root. Avoid noodles, fish, meat, and wind-aggravating foods.
**Treatment for Rat Fistula Ulcer.**
Momordica Cochinchinensis Seed (ten pieces, with shell, pounded), Raw Yam (large one, peel three cun), Garlic (one clove, peeled). Grind into fine powder. If large and broken, first wash with scallion white and pepper decoction, wipe dry with cloth, apply medicine thick as one finger, seal externally with oil paper. Self-heals in several days, medicine falls off without trace. If unbroken, no need to wash with water, just apply powder.
**Lituo San**
Indicated for Rat Fistula Ulcer.
Astragalus Root, Licorice Root, Honeysuckle Flower. Equal parts, ground into five portions. Take one portion with one cup of wine, decoct until one cup remains, strain and take after meals.
**Neixiao San** (from *Shengji Zonglu*)
Indicated for Scrofula.
Sichuan Lovage Rhizome (one liang, chopped), White Stiff Silkworm (straight ones, stir-fried), Licorice Root (roasted and chopped, each half liang). Grind into powder. Take one qian per dose, mix with honey water. Take three times daily after meals.
**Sanshen Wan** (from *Shengji Zonglu*)
Indicated for Scrofula.
Mylabris (one qian half), Hemizygia Shell (one piece, calcined), Musk (one fen, ground). Grind the first three ingredients into powder, mix with a little congee flour, knead into dough. Add Musk and grind again. Make pills the size of mung beans. Take five pills per dose before sleep with ginger decoction.
**Bimazi Wan** (from *Shengji Zonglu*)
Indicated for Scrofula.
Castor Bean Seed (one thousand pieces, half raw, half stir-fried on tile until bulging), Alum Stone (one liang, melted on tile three to five times, cooled and ground), Black Soybean (six grains, three raw, three stir-fried on tile until cooked). Do not touch iron vessels. Pound finely and uniformly until smooth. Make pills the size of ginkgo nuts. Take one pill per dose with salt water. Women take with vinegar water. Any time.
**Yuyuliang Yin** (from *Shengji Zonglu*)
Indicated for Scrofula.
Yuyuliang Powder (two qian two tie), Licorice Root (one liang half, half raw half roasted, pounded), Calomel (ground half fen, divided into two ties). Take half liang of Licorice Root, one jin of water, decoct until half sheng remains. Mix with Yuyuliang powder and one tie of Calomel. Ingest on an empty stomach in one dose. Evil substances will be purged. If not healed, take again. Supplement with scallion porridge after purging.
**Treatment for Rat Fistula Ulcer** (from *Ben Shi Fang*)
Vitex Fruit (named Vitex Trifolia Fruit), Frankincense, Licorice Root (equal parts). Grind into powder. Take one qian per dose, mix with hot water, take long after meals.
**Another Formula**
Black Aconite Root (one piece, washed), Urine (five sheng half), Salt (three sheng half). Soak together for half a month. Take out daily, remove black skin of Aconite, dry in shade, grind into powder. Boil Black Soybeans thoroughly, pound into paste, make pills the size of Chinese quince seeds. Take seven pills per dose with warm wine, morning and evening, two doses daily.
**Sishen Wan**
Indicated for Scrofula. Suitable regardless of depth, whether broken or unbroken.
Schizonepeta, White Stiff Silkworm (stir-fried), Raw Licorice Root, Black Morning Glory Seed. Each one liang, grind into fine powder. Make pills the size of Chinese quince seeds using good vinegar paste. Take thirty pills per dose before sleep after meals, with Talcum powder water.
**Rusheng Bingzi**
Indicated for Rat Fistula.
Realgar (ground half qian), Renyan (half qian), Frankincense (one qian, ground). Make pellets the size of wheat grains using glutinous rice porridge. If the wound has an eye (opening) the size of a coin hole, apply on the wound. If unbroken, moxa three to five cones, place the cake on the moxa site, apply Bletilla Striata ointment. After one day plus, the nodule falls off naturally. Reapply the cake as before.
**Another Formula**
Borax (three qian half), Alum (four qian, calcined), Lead Monoxide (one qian, water levigated). Dissolve Alum in water first. Then add Borax and Lead Monoxide. Dry over slow fire, grind into fine powder. Sprinkle dry powder twice daily on the mouth/wound.
**Qumai Yinzi** (from *Jisheng Tang Fang*)
Indicated for Mar Dao.
Spermacoce Herb (half jin, use flowers), Forsythia Fruit (one jin, remove heart). Coarsely chop, decoct in water, take before sleep. This medicine often does not show quick effects; expect resolution after a long period of months and years.
**Muli Wan** (from *Renji Zhizhi Fang*)
Indicated for Scrofula.
Oyster Shell (four liang, calcined on red earth to remove fire toxicity overnight), Scrophularia Root (three liang, baked). Grind into powder, make pills the size of Chinese quince seeds with paste. Take forty pills each time after meals and before sleep, morning and evening, with wine. As the medicine is nearly finished, the rat fistula will also be eradicated.
**Specifically for Scrofula.**
Occurs in humans and horses.
True Verdigris (half liang, levigated), Dried Ginger (one liang, baked). Grind together into powder, mix with sesame oil for application on the wound. First, decoct Sichuan Pepper, fried salt, and scallion white in vinegar and sour water to one bowl. At noon, clean the wound completely dry, then apply medicine. Once daily. Major illnesses resolve in over twenty days, the wound dries naturally.
**Treatment for Scrofula.**
Polygonum Multiflorum Root (soak in rice washing water overnight, peel, cut with bamboo knife), Fragrant Angelica Root (equal parts). Pound in wooden mortar into powder, standard three liang. Add Agarwood half liang, Musk one qian, mix evenly. Take two qian per dose with clear tea.
**Treatment for Scrofula,** suitable regardless of whether broken or unbroken.
Cyperus Rotundus (remove hair, stir-fried), Fragrant Angelica Root (each one liang). Grind into powder. Take one large qian per dose with rice soup, plain water is also acceptable.
**Neixiao Wan**
Indicated for Rat Fistula.
Belamcanda Rhizome (two liang, remove heart), Dioscorea Hypoglauca Rhizome (two liang half). Grind into fine powder, make pills the size of Chinese quince seeds with paste. Take thirty-four pills per dose with warm water.
**Zaoren San** (from *Shenghui Fang*)
Indicated for Scrofula.
Soap Needle (one dou, non-bearing ones), Burdock Fruit (half jin, stir-fried). Burn soap needles in a basin. When fire is strong, scatter Burdock fruit into the fire. When smoke is about to finish, quickly cover with the basin. After cooling, take out and grind into powder. Take three qian bing per dose on an empty stomach with well water. After several days, purge evil substances resembling glue.
