For cold damage that has passed through meridians, elderly/weak individuals, those with both qi and blood deficiency, postpartum women, those with indications for purging, those whose condition persists after purging, or where exterior symptoms remain but interior urgency requires purging, use this decoction minus Mangxiao for safety. This is because Mangxiao's nature is harsh and rapid. The classics state: Which transforming drug is tightest? That containing Mangxiao. Modern mediocre physicians indiscriminately use Dahuang and Mangxiao to purge without distinguishing between urgent purging, slight administration, or mild stomach harmonization, leading to many wrongful deaths. Zhang Zhongjing said: To cleanse cold damage heat accumulation, only liquid decoctions should be used; pills are strictly prohibited. This must be known.

This medicine is extremely harsh; use only when absolutely necessary. The original formula uses Dahuang 6 liang, Mangxiao 1 sheng, Gansui powder 1 qian, water 6 sheng, decoct to 2 sheng as before, divide into two doses. If rapid purging occurs, stop subsequent doses.

For those with body heat, use this decoction; for those without body heat, use Liu Yi Shun Qi Tang.
