Dust from door hinges: Mainly treats bleeding from metal wounds (citing *Bencao Gangmu*). [Treatment] (Li Shizhen states) Treats various types of toxic sores; slice garlic, dip it in the dust, and rub it on the sore until sweating occurs, then the sore will subside.
Ash from incense burners: Mainly treats contusions and injuries caused by sharp weapons (metal wounds); apply externally to stop bleeding and promote tissue regeneration. ○ The ash rim of incense burners (Note: likely a variant term or error for incense ash) treats scabies (citing *Bencao Gangmu*).
Stone alkali: Slightly toxic. Mainly removes damp-heat, stops heart pain, resolves phlegm, grinds down accumulations, transforms food stagnation, and washes away dirt and grease (citing *Yanyi Buzhi*). Kills tooth worms, removes corneal opacity (leukoma), treats dysphagia and regurgitation. When used together with forged stone, it can necrotize muscle, ulcerate carbuncles and scrofula, remove dead flesh, and moles, warts, and hemorrhoidal nodules are effectively treated (citing *Bencao Gangmu*). [Names] Huijian (Ash Alkali), Huajian (Flower Alkali). [Origin] (Li Shizhen states) Stone alkali is produced in Jining and other places in Shandong Province. [Quality] Resembles stones; being a type of alkali, it derives its name "Jian" (Alkali). [Color] Comes in yellow and white varieties. [Taste] Pungent, bitter. [Nature] Warm. [Preparation] Locals harvest plants such as Artemisia and Polygonum, dig pits to soak them in water, lift them out, dry them, and burn them into ash. They leach the ash with the original water to obtain juice. For every hundred catties of ash, two to three catties of flour are added. Over time, it precipitates and solidifies like stone. It is sold with the juice to all directions, where it is very profitable for laundry and dough fermentation. Other places use thick lye from stove ash, which also removes dirt and ferments dough. [Treatment] (Citing *Puji Fang*) Treats all kinds of eye diseases. White alkali should be picked to remove black fragments, wrapped in seven layers of thick paper, hung in a ventilated place for forty-nine days, taken out, ground into an extremely fine powder, and applied to the eyes daily. ○ (Citing *Rumen Shiqin Fang*) Treats toothache caused by worms; fill the cavity with flower alkali, and pain stops immediately. [Combined Treatment] (Citing *Zhaiyuan Fang*) To resolve accumulations and break qi stagnation, use 3 qian of stone alkali, 3 liang of hawthorn, 5 qian of asafoetida, and 1 liang of pinellia (processed with soap pod water), grind into powder, and form pills using asafoetida dissolved in vinegar and cooked paste. ○ Another prescription for trichiasis (inverted eyelashes): lightly scratch the eyelid with a knife, apply medicinal mud to the eyelid, and the lashes will naturally rise. The formula consists of 1 qian of stone alkali and 1 qian of forged stone, mixed with vinegar for topical application. ○ (*Shengji Lu* records) For moles and warts: boil flower alkali, mineral ash, and wheat straw ash juice until dry, divide equally into powder, prick the lesion with a needle, mix with water, and apply. Remove after three applications over three days; must be freshly prepared to be effective. [Contraindications] (Zhu Zhenheng states) Use according to deficiency and excess conditions; excessive consumption damages the human body. Appendix in Tingbu Zhongtu Gangmu regarding soil from ceremonial fields. ○ (Citing *Yinyang Zashu*) Take the soil from ceremonial fields, make it into mud, and smear it on stoves to protect against fire, water, thieves, and disasters; smear it on the four corners of houses to prevent mice from eating silkworms; smear it in granaries to prevent mice from eating rice; block holes with it for one hundred days, and mice will be eradicated.
