Pungent, sweet, non-toxic. Enters the Foot-Yangming Meridian (Foot-Stomach Meridian). It releases the muscle layer, reduces fever, raises yang, and disperses fire. It stops vomiting, eliminates diarrhea, generates body fluids, and quenches thirst. It descends rebellious qi to calm wheezing, resolves alcohol toxicity, and dissipates stagnation. It removes stiffness and pain in the eye sockets, neck, and back, and clears pathogenic heat from the chest, diaphragm, and epigastrium. It treats blood dysentery and warm malaria, as well as conditions such as intestinal wind, rashes, and smallpox.
It is found everywhere. Its root is purple on the outside and white on the inside, growing as a vine. Its leaves have three points, green on the front surface and pale on the back. Its flowers grow in spikes and are red-purple. Its pods resemble small soybeans.
