Crush the medicinal materials into coarse particles. For each dose, take three qian (approx. 9-15g depending on era), add one dan (approx. 200ml) and a half of water, three slices of fresh ginger, one jujube, and one mume fruit. Decoct until the liquid reduces to seven-tenths. Strain the dregs and take warm before meals. (Ibid.)
A patient with weakened qi and blood, emaciated, suffered from profuse sweating like rain that would not stop. Multiple physicians failed to achieve efficacy. Using Shiquan Dabu Tang (Complete Ten Tonics Decoction), with doubled doses of Ginseng Radix and Astragali Radix, and Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata processed with child's urine, one dose brought immediate effect, and several doses led to complete recovery. (Cited in *Lei An* from *Yi Jian*)
For spontaneous sweating (daytime sweating without exertion or heat), use Astragali Radix soaked in wine and Ginseng Radix decocted together. This strongly tonifies Wei Qi (Defensive Qi) to consolidate the Cou Li (interstices of skin and muscle). (*Da Huan*)
**Nourishing Yin Formulas**: Treating postpartum constitutional weakness, emaciation, limb weakness, poor appetite, mental restlessness due to deficiency, and dryness of the vaginal opening after sweating. Formula: Huangqi Yin Zi (Astragalus Decoction).

Finely chop and mix the above ingredients evenly. Take half a liang per dose, add one large cup of water, five stalks of Xiebai (Allii Macrostemonis Bulbus), and 50 grains of Chishao (Sojae Preparata). Decoct until five-tenths remain. Strain. Take warm in two divided doses at any time. (*Sheng Hui*)

Treating nocturnal sweating: Ci Lv recorded the formula of Chancellor Shi's family; he, along with Wang Shudong and his mother, all achieved efficacy. Since heart fluids transform into sweat, this medicine should be taken to converge the Heart Meridian.
Ingredients: Renshen (Ginseng Radix, remove rhizome, slice); Chuan Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, remove rhizome and fine roots, slice).
Equal parts of these two herbs. Weigh five qian per dose. First, take one pig heart, cut into pieces, and decoct with the heart meat and blood. Clarify the juice and use it to decoct the medicine. Take orally. (*Shi Zhai*) In *Wei Shi*, for treating nocturnal sweating, remove the pig heart from this formula, add Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Dan Chi (Sojae Preparata), and scallion heads. Decoct in water and take.

Pound and mix, sieve into powder. Take before meals, using Jiangshui (fermented rice water) to administer a square-inch spoonful. Three times daily, twice at night. (*Wai Tai*) Note: *Su Shen*'s Maijian San has efficacy in treating muscular heat and nocturnal sweating. It is listed in *Guan Ju Fang*; consult *Gu Zheng* (Bone-steaming). *Sheng Hui*'s Renshen San for wind-deficiency sweating with severe heat/stuffiness adds Renshen (Ginseng Radix) and Musli (Ostreae Concha) to this base formula.
Shen Junzhang of Lin'an suffered from spontaneous sweating like rain, unceasing, with red face, body heat, dry mouth, and vexation. He was carried to Hangzhou and lodged in an inn. During midsummer, the curtains were tightly closed. He claimed extreme deficiency leading to Yang collapse, having taken several doses of Atractylodis Rhizoma and Aconitum preparations. Boren diagnosed his pulse as deficient, large, surging, and rapid. Observing yellow coating on his tongue, he said, "The previous medicines were mistaken. Treating mild disease heavily kills the patient." *Su Wen* states: "First consider the annual climate; do not violate the Heavenly Harmony." The heat of Atractylodis Rhizoma and Aconitum—how can they be lightly used to offend seasonal pathogens? It also says: "Deficient pulse and body heat result from Summerheat injury." Summerheat patients naturally sweat much; adding harsh hot agents makes the surging/rapid pulse cause even more sweating. He ordered all curtains removed and windows opened. Initially reluctant, the patient soon felt refreshed. He prescribed Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) and Renshen Baihu Tang (Ginseng White Tiger Decoction). After three doses, sweating stopped by more than half, and other symptoms alleviated. Subsequently, Ji Ji Tang (Jiao Ti Decoction) was added. When thirsty, Bingshui (Ice Water) was used to mix Tianshui San (Heavenly Water Powder). After seven days, the illness completely resolved. Later, ulcers and rashes appeared on the whole body. Taking Fangfeng Tongsheng San (Saposhnikovia Unblocking the Interior Powder) cured him. (*History of Medicine: Biography of Yingning Sheng*)

Danggui Longhui Wan (Angelica Longhui Pill): Treats nocturnal sweating due to Liver Fire. (*Danxi*) (Formula seen in *Gu Zheng*)
Anwei Tang (Stomach-Anchoring Decoction): Treats prolonged sweating due to diet, complicated by middle-jiao deficiency wind. Deficient pathogens cause hemiplegia, presenting as Pi Feng (Partial Wind) and Wei Bi (Atrophy and Obstruction). One must first eliminate pathogens, restrain the fierce Qi, press, and gather it.
Ingredients: Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, cleaned, remove stamens), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus, remove seeds), Wumei (Mume Fructus, remove pits), Sheng Gancao (Raw Licorice Root) (each 5 fen); Shu Gancao (Prepared Licorice Root) (3 fen); Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma tip) (2 fen).
