Zusanli (ST36) and Neiting (ST44), Quchi (LI11) and Hegu (LI4), extending to Weizhong (BL40), combined with Chengshan (BL57), Taichong (LR3), and Kunlun (BL60); Huantiao (GB30) connects with Yanglingquan (GB34). These acupoints are listed together, along with Quepen (LI18). The "Dan" method (supporting method for diffuse conditions) and "Jie" method (intercepting method for localized conditions) are used in point selection.
The three hundred and sixty acupoints of the body do not exceed these twelve essential verses. Treating diseases is as miraculous as pouring hot water on snow; it melts away instantly. The true mechanism descended from the Big Dipper, unlocking the golden lock. This knowledge can be transmitted only to worthy individuals, never casually disclosed to the unqualified.
Zusanli (ST36) is located three cun below the knee, between the two tendons. It can relieve heart and abdominal pain, effectively treat cold in the stomach, borborygmus (intestinal rumbling), accumulations, distension and fullness, soreness in the legs, emaciation due to Cold Damage (Shanghan), Qi-related disorders, and various other ailments.
For individuals over thirty years old, if the eyes feel heavy and vision is obscured, acupuncture can restore clarity. The points are accessed by lifting the foot, making treatment straightforward.
Neiting (ST44) is located on the medial aspect of the toes, belonging to the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian. It treats cold extremities (Jue), aversion to noise, tinnitus, throat rattle, toothache, malaria, and loss of appetite; symptoms resolve immediately after needling.
Quchi (LI11) is found in the depression at the end of the flexed elbow. It treats elbow pain, hemiplegia (Pianfeng), inability to bend the arm like a bow, arm paralysis preventing combing of hair, suffocating throat closure, persistent fever, and generalized pruritus due to wind; recovery occurs promptly after needling.
Hegu (LI4) is located in the web between the thumb and index finger, in the depression between the first and second metacarpal bones. It treats headache, facial swelling, malaria (alternating chills and fever), fever with sweating, blurred vision, toothache, epistaxis, and trismus (lockjaw) making speech difficult. Needling depth must be observed carefully to ensure patient safety and comfort.
Weizhong (BL40) is located at the midpoint of the popliteal crease, where the artery pulses. It treats heaviness in the lower back preventing movement, dull pain along the spine, wind-phlegm epilepsy, muscle spasms, severe heat conditions, and stiffness in the knees; health is restored immediately after needling.
Chengshan (BL57) is located in the belly of the gastrocnemius muscle. It regulates lower back pain, hemorrhoids, difficulty in defecation, foot qi (swelling/pain in feet), coldness and soreness in both feet, and acute cholera with calf cramps; relief follows needling.
Taichong (LR3) is located three cun posterior to the head of the first metatarsal bone, where the pulse can be felt to determine life and death prognosis. It treats convulsions and epilepsy, swollen throat, chest distension, immobility of the lower limbs, seven types of hernias with unilateral swelling, and cloudy vision. It also treats lower back pain with miraculous efficacy upon needling.
Kunlun (BL60) is located behind the lateral malleolus, where the fine pulse can be palpated. It treats heaviness in the arms, pain in the loins and sacrum, ankle pain radiating to the inner or outer side, headache, stiff neck and back, sudden asthma with chest fullness, inability to walk, and groaning due to foot pain; seeking wellness requires needling this point.
Huantiao (GB30) is located in the hip joint region. For needling, the patient lies down, extending the upper leg while bending the lower leg. It treats paralysis, toxic cold-wind, cold-bi syndrome causing body stiffness and constriction, heavy and painful legs with limited mobility. This point is most effective for critical conditions requiring acupuncture.
Yanglingquan (GB34) is located one cun below the lateral aspect of the knee. It treats knee swelling and numbness, difficulty rising and sitting, heavy sensation in the waist and back, facial swelling, cold-bi in the chest, hemiplegia, inability to sit up despite effort, and a frail appearance resembling an elderly person. A needling depth of five fen yields distinct miraculous effects.
Tongli (HT5) is located one cun posterior to the wrist crease on the radial side. It treats aphasia (inability to speak), mental restlessness, excess patterns presenting as limb heaviness and redness of the face and cheeks, rapid breathing, throat closure with dyspnea; deficiency patterns present as anorexia, cough, and pale complexion. Gentle insertion of a fine needle reveals its miraculous power.
Lieque (LU7) is located one cun above the wrist crease, in the depression when crossing the hands (index finger rests here). It specializes in treating hemicrania (one-sided headache), hemiplegia, phlegm accumulation, cheek swelling, trismus, and toothache. Mastery of tonification and seduction techniques ensures rapid cure.
