Some people die from excessive consumption of distilled spirits (Baijiu/Shaojiu) while drunk; their bodies inevitably rot and emit a foul odor. Alcohol is a substance of extreme heat, purely Yang without Yin, and particularly belongs to the category of extreme heat. If consumed excessively, the body cannot withstand it; upon sudden drunken collapse, the heat nature flares up, causing putrefaction of the intestines and stomach. At this time, the person has entered a state of deep intoxication, unaware of life or death. One should frequently splash well water on the chest and heart area, untie the hair, immerse the head in cold water, and replace with fresh cold water as soon as it warms up. Subsequently, treat primarily with Jiayan Huajiu Decoction.
It is also said: Distilled spirits stored in tin pots overnight develop toxicity; consuming them harms the human body.
It is also said: Eels immersed in distilled spirits will turn into mud.
For those who have consumed excessive distilled spirits and are unconscious or dazed, place the drunkard on a wooden door board, prop up the body with a low stool so that the head is lower than the feet, scatter the hair, fill a basin with water, add raw ground mung beans to the water, and then immerse the hair in the basin. When the water warms up, replace it with a new basin. Continue immersing until the alcohol dissipates and consciousness clears. Then, place large slices of hot tofu on the chest; the heat from the tofu helps extract the alcohol toxin by steaming it out. Replace with fresh hot tofu to ensure survival. After waking, it is advisable to drink mung bean soup.
Another prescription: Concentrated decoction of Kudume Flower (Ge Hua), or administer Kudume Root Decoction (Gegen Tang).
Another prescription: Crush and grind Ziziphus Spinosae Seed (Zi Su Zi), decoct in water to resolve toxicity.
Another prescription: Peel sugarcane, crush to extract juice, and drink; dry retching will stop naturally.
Another prescription: Administer white radish juice; this also rescues poisoning from wild wolf smoke and coal gas.
Another prescription: Administer hot urine.
Another prescription: Collect several cups of condensation water from the pot lid and administer slowly.
Jiayan Huajiu Decoction (Heat-Resolving Alcohol-Detoxifying Decoction)
Ginseng Root (Ren Shen) (1 liang/30g; if unavailable, substitute with Astragalus Root (Huang Qi) 2 liang/60g), Oak Branch (Zuo Mu Zhi) (2 liang/60g), Poria (Bai Fu Ling) (5 qian/15g), Coptis Rhizome (Huang Lian), Calcined Aragonite (Han Shui Shi) (each 3 qian/9g), Acorus Tatarinowii Rhizome (Shi Chang Pu) (1 qian/3g).
Decoct in water to obtain one bowl of liquid. Wait for it to cool before administering orally; if it can enter the mouth, the patient will survive. This formula uses Oak Branch to resolve alcohol toxicity, Coptis Rhizome and Calcined Aragonite to resolve fire toxicity, Acorus to guide the medicine into the Heart, and Poria to distribute and eliminate the qi of alcohol and food. Ginseng is used to consolidate the True Qi (Zhen Qi), preventing it from scattering due to alcohol damage. Since distilled spirits are "qi wines," extreme heat causes qi to scatter easily; consolidating True Qi allows the fire to be drained, toxins to be resolved, and qi to remain intact without collapsing.
