[Method of Taking Alum] For those who suffer from "fire eye" (acute conjunctivitis) annually, this method of administration is remarkably effective. Starting from the first day of the "Fourth Nine" period in winter, swallow five to seven fen of raw Ming Fan (Calcined Alum) every morning. Doing so for nine consecutive days ensures immunity from fire eye for a year. Take one cup of boiling water, drink a mouthful first to moisten the throat, place the alum on the palm, slide it down the throat, and swallow with the remaining water. If any alum remains unswallowed, rinse the mouth with water and spit it out to avoid astringency.
