Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix), Yuzhu (Polygonati Odorati Rhizoma), Baihe (Lilii Bulbus), Bubu (Stemonae Radix), Shihu (Dendrobii Caulis), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix), Shizao (Ziziphi Spinosae Semen), Danzhuye (Lophatheri Herba), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Shanyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma).
Loujing (Leaking Canthus / Chronic Dacryocystitis) is a stubborn disease; without treatment, it does not change spontaneously, and even with treatment, few recover. However, if tears flow day and night, staining the lap with bloody tears, the appearance is truly unbecoming. One must strive to regulate it, fulfilling the duty of a physician.
Therefore, this prescription is primarily used to clear the Lung Metal (Metal element associated with the Lungs in TCM theory) and moisten dryness as the top priority. Shengdi, Bubu, Baihe, Yuzhu, Danzhuye, Maidong, and Shihu are herbs that clear dryness; Danggui, Renshen, Wuweizi, Gancao, Shizao, and Shanyao are herbs that nourish Yin. When Yin is sufficient, Qi becomes regulated, and Water naturally ascends. When dryness is removed, Blood becomes prosperous, and Fire descends accordingly. With Water ascending and Fire descending, the leaking canthus returns to its original state; would medical art be at an impasse?
If leaking canthus persists for a long time, a fistula (tube) will inevitably form. Qingyun Dan should be used to penetrate and clear turbid fluids; only then will this decoction be effective.
Poem says: To nourish Yin and clear dryness, use flesh of Shizao;
Baihe and Bubu paired with Jinchai Shihu;
Maidong, Renshen, Dihuang, Wuweiizi offer sour and sweet flavors;
Danzhuye should be augmented with ample Yuzhu.
Diseases vary, but medicines do not differ greatly. Investigate the origin to adapt to changes, and apply flexibility in clinical practice. The compiled causes and formulas are as follows:
Yujin (Curcumae Longae Radix), Xiongjing (Realgar), Tianzhu Huang (Calamistrum), Huashi (Talcum), Shijunzi (Quisqualis Fructus - take clean pulp), Xieshao (Scorpion's tail tip), Chan Chu (Bufo bufo gargarizans Cantor - remove internal organs and impurities, roast until crisp, 2 qian each), Qingfen (Calomelas), Niuhuang (Bovis Calculus), Zhusha (Cinnabaris - 1 qian each), Badou (Crotonis Fructus - remove all oil, take the frost/residue), Shexiang (Moschus - 6 fen each). Decoct Erchen Tang (Two-Aged Decoction) strongly, mix with Lvdou Fen (Mung Bean Powder), steam into a paste, pill to the size of a wutong seed, dry in shade, coat with Fei Shi Qing (Fly-stone Cyan), store in lead jars for use.
When infants' diet is improper, cold and heat accumulate and stagnate, blocking the transmission pathway of the Taiyin (Spleen/Lung channels), causing confusion between clear and turbid substances, resulting in intermittent diarrhea. If care is not proper at this time, symptoms such as blue-green complexion, emaciated muscles, and hot limbs will worsen, resembling Ganic syndrome (Infantile Malnutrition) but more severe than typical Ganic. If one claims to use harmonizing agents, they may seem irrelevant (not addressing the pain/itch); if using heating agents, excess will increase and Qi will be depleted; if using cooling and tonifying agents, none are appropriate. Medical art seems exhausted. Buchen prescribed this formula, and many were saved, hence the humble name "Baoying" (Protecting Infants). Asked for the reason, he replied: Qingfen, Zhu Huang (Bambusae Concretio Resinae), Shi Qing (Azurite), and Dansha (Cinnabaris) are substances that settle wind-heat and sink stubborn phlegm. Added with Huashi, they also release the muscle layer and promote water metabolism, preventing internal fire from blazing. Yujin, Xionghuang (Realgar), and Niuhuang break stagnant Qi and dissipate evil blood. Added with Erchen Tang and Lv Dou, they may further clear the Stomach and support the Spleen, allowing grain Qi to recover slightly. A small addition of Badou and Shexiang is because accumulated masses and deep cold require purgation by heat methods. Moreover, the mutual restraint among these drugs makes them potent yet not fierce. Initially, they open obstructions; subsequently, they stop diarrhea. This is a harmonizing formula combining attack and dispersion. Furthermore, Chan Chu, Xie Shao, and Shijunzi address worms generated by accumulated stagnation, thereby killing them, completing the methodological preparation. Tender and weak chicks should not be over-fed. The Classic states: For large accumulations and聚结s, one may intervene, but stop when half the pathogen is reduced; exceeding this leads to death.
Poem says: Yujin, Badou, red Xiongjing;
Huashi, Dansha, white Qingfen;
Tianzhu, Niuhuang, Chan, Xie, Shexiang;
Shijun pills protect the infant well.
