Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Fu Ling (Poria), Gan Cao (Licorice Radix & Rhizome), Huang Qi (Astragali Radix), Wu Wei Zi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus), Mai Dong (Ophiopogonis Tuber), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Shan Yao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma), Bian Dou (Lablab Album Seed), Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix Alba).
In cases of eye disease occurring during the summer heat season, where symptoms have subsided after dispersing and attacking treatments but fever and distending pain recur, this formula is indicated.
After the eyes have been treated with dispersing and attacking methods, Yang pathogens should be absent; why does it recur? This is due to deficiency in both the exterior and interior, with Qi failing to return to its origin, causing Yang to float outward, thus resulting in fever. It is not because fire-toxin remains uneliminated. Only Wu Wei Zi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus), Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Mai Dong (Ophiopogonis Tuber), and Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma) are used to cool and astringe dryness; Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Huang Qi (Astragali Radix), Shan Yao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma), Bian Dou (Lablab Album Seed), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Fu Ling (Poria), and Gan Cao (Licorice Radix & Rhizoma) tonify and harmonize the Stomach gently. After one dose, efficacy is seen; after two doses, then three, the summer-heat clear Qi is restored. The Yang will be gathered inward, pushing the pathogen out. Superficial practitioners encountering this condition will inevitably use cold and dispersing methods, leading to deterioration unless they cease. This formula achieves effect progressively; is it not the work of an accomplished physician? In the absence of deficiency patterns, even if these symptoms appear initially, add Shi Gao (Gypsum Fibrosum), Dan Zhu Ye (Lophatheri Herba), and Hua Shi (Talcum) to this base formula. If inappropriate, remove Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Huang Qi (Astragali Radix), and Wu Wei Zi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus).
Poem states: Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) and Huang Qi (Astragali Radix) combined with Si Jun Zi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction) and Sheng Mai San (Generate the Pulse Powder), Bian Dou (Lablab Album Seed) and Huai Shan Yao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma) along with Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix Alba); Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma) still named Yi Qi Tang (Benefit Qi Decoction), for clearing summer-heat one may add Shi Gao (Gypsum Fibrosum), Zhu Ye (Phyllostachys Viridis Caulis), and Hua Shi (Talcum); stubborn physicians treasure Li Dong Yuan's formulas until death, insisting on Qing Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride) and Huang Bo (Phellodendri Cortex).

Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Bei Mu (Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus), Qiang Huo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Gan Cao (Licorice Radix & Rhizome), Hou Po (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex), Gan Ai Ye (Artemisiae Argyi Folium), Huang Qi (Astragali Radix), Jing Jie (Schizonepetae Herba), Zhi Ke (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Tu Si Zi (Cuscutae Semen), Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma).
For eye disease caused by fetal qi, this formula is indicated.
Fetal qi should be secured; using dispersing methods concurrently is unreasonable. However, since the eye disease has arisen suddenly, it is necessary to temporarily treat the branch (symptoms). Therefore, Qiang Huo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Jing Jie (Schizonepetae Herba), and Zhi Ke (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus) disperse wind-heat and eliminate deficient phlegm; Huang Qi (Astragali Radix), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Gan Cao (Licorice Radix & Rhizome), Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Tu Si Zi (Cuscutae Semen), and Ai Ye (Artemisiae Argyi Folium) protect the Primordial Spirit and calm deep depression. When depression is relieved, wind naturally ceases; when phlegm is removed, the Spirit becomes tranquil; when the Spirit is tranquil, Qi flows and Blood moves, the fetus is protected, and the disease is quietly eliminated. The Classics state: "If there is a cause, there is no damage; if there is no damage, there is no harm." This refers to this formula. If Blood Heat and Qi Harmony are discordant, and fetal movement occurs in the fourth or fifth month, remove Qiang Huo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Jing Sui (Schizonepetae Herba), Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), and Zhi Ke (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), and use Huo Xiang (Agastaches Herba), Zi Su (Perillae Folium), and Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix). Or, according to the Zheng Qi Tian Xiang Tang (Upright Qi Heavenly Fragrance Decoction) from *Canzhu*: Wu Yao (Linderae Radix), Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Ju Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Zi Su (Perillae Folium), and Xiang Fu (Cyperi Rhizoma) are more stable.
Poem states: Regarding Bao Tai Liu Qi (Protect Fetus Circulate Qi) medicines, one must know Zhi Ke (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), Hou Po (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex), Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), and Tu Si Zi (Cuscutae Semen); add a little Gan Cao (Licorice Radix & Rhizome), Jing Jie (Schizonepetae Herba), and Gan Ai Ye (Artemisiae Argyi Folium); active Qiang Huo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Bei Mu (Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus) up to Huang Qi (Astragali Radix).
Another poem: Zheng Qi Tian Xiang Tang (Upright Qi Heavenly Fragrance Decoction), Tai Wu (Linderae Radix), Shu Bai (Bupleuri Radix - *Note: Context implies Bai Zhu or similar, but text says 'Shu Bai', likely referring to Bupleurum or a local variant, kept as transliteration/standard term based on common confusion or specific text interpretation, here interpreted as Bupleuri Radix or generic White root, but strictly following text 'Shu Bai' often maps to Bupleuri in some contexts or is a typo for Bai Zhu. Given 'Tai Wu' (Wu Yao) and 'Jiang' (Ginger), 'Shu Bai' might refer to Bupleuri. However, standard Zheng Qi Tian Xiang Tang usually contains Wu Yao, Gan Jiang, Chen Pi, Zi Su, Xiang Fu. The poem lists 'Tai Wu Shu Bai Jiang'. 'Shu Bai' is ambiguous. I will translate as Shu Bai (Bupleuri Radix) noting potential textual variance, but for strict entity extraction, I will list what is written.* -> Correction: In many editions, this line refers to Wu Yao, Gan Jiang, etc. 'Shu Bai' is likely a typo for 'Bai Zhu' or refers to a specific preparation. I will translate literally as Shu Bai (Bupleuri Radix) for accuracy to source text provided, though clinically unusual for this specific decoction name without context. Actually, looking at standard texts, 'Zheng Qi Tian Xiang Tang' typically is Wu Yao, Gan Jiang, Chen Pi, Zi Su, Xiang Fu. The poem mentions 'Shu Bai'. I will stick to the text: Shu Bai (Bupleuri Radix)). Orange Peel (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Zi Su (Perillae Folium), Xiang Fu (Cyperi Rhizoma), good for brightening eyes and protecting the fetus.
