Chishi Zhi (Halloysitum Rubrum), Huarui Shi (Calamites), Lugan Shi (Plumbum Carbonicum), and Qingfen (Calomelas) are all finely ground and levigated, each taking five qian; Xiangpi (Elephant Skin) is slightly roasted and ground into powder; Ruxiang (Olibanum) and Moyao (Myrrha) each take three qian; Bingpian (Borneolum Syntheticum) takes two qian; Shexiang (Moschus) takes one qian; Huangla (Cera Flava) and Baila (Cera Alba) each take one liang; Mayou (Semen Sesami Oleum) takes four liang. First, boil the Mayou until bubbling, then add the Huangla and Baila, followed by the Ruxiang and Moyao, then add the three types of stone minerals. After removing from heat to dissipate the fire energy, add the Qingfen and Xiangpi powder. Wait for it to cool, then add the Bingpian and Shexiang, and grind uniformly. If the ointment is too hard, add cooked Lard (Su Zhuyou). This formula treats various sores and ulcers that have been ulcerated for a long time, with non-healing granulation tissue and unhealed wounds, showing miraculous efficacy.
The Classics state: Qi injury causes pain, Form injury causes swelling. It also states: Pain first followed by swelling indicates Qi injuring the Form; Swelling first followed by pain indicates Form injuring the Qi. Whenever toxic pathogens erupt causing swelling and pain, it is attributed to simultaneous injury of both Form and Qi. However, if the disease is located in the skin or specific meridians and collaterals, it can be pointed out externally, and medication can lead to cure within a short period. Therefore, this specialty (External Medicine) has branched into different schools, with many practitioners everywhere. Now, regarding cases where ulceration and putrefaction persist for a long time, or after major illnesses have been eliminated, but only cold muscles and dampness infiltration remain, making wound closure difficult, we use Chishi Zhi, Lugan Shi, Huarui Shi, and Qingfen to resolve toxicity and remove dampness; Ruxiang, Moyao, Bingpian, Shexiang, and Mayou to warm the muscles and circulate dampness; Xiangpi, Huangla, and Baila to consolidate the defensive layer and stop dampness. By changing a paper dressing daily, recovery is expected within a few weeks.
The above formula was originally an external medicine used for concluding treatment and follow-up care. It is recorded in this classic, likely because when applied to the face after the falling off of eyelash crusts (Quanmao Jia), it can eliminate scars, and for conditions such as leaking eyes (Lou Jing) due to toxins, phlegm nodules (Tan He), or skin damage from beadling and moxibustion that fails to heal over time.
Shuiyin (Mercurius), Yaxiao (Natrii Nitratis Crystallis), and Baifan (Alumen) each take one liang. Grind the Yaxiao and Baifan finely, place them in a pot, gently place the Shuiyin in the center, cover with a green porcelain bowl, weigh down with heavy objects, prepare eight liang of Guoshi Gypsum (Gypsum Fibrosum), grind and sieve it, mix with vinegar to a slightly moist consistency, fill tightly around the rim of the bowl to prevent gas leakage. Then arrange charcoal fire, place securely on the stove, allow the fire to turn red naturally, add charcoal and vigorously bellows when embers fade slightly. When the pot and bowl feel very hot, remove the weights, pour the substance into the bowl, repeat heating and drying two or three times, then stop the fire. The medicinal substance rises and condenses into Dan (Elixir).
This Dan is commonly known as Sanxian (Three Immortals). Many people know how to process it, but due to differences in fire control and sublimation methods, the speed of effect varies, and colors range from red to yellow. It resolves toxicity, absorbs dampness, eliminates the old, and generates the new. It is used to treat conditions such as eyelash issues, ulcerated and putrid edges of the eyelids, leaking eyes, rotten eyelid margins, and toxin-induced symptoms, possessing spiritual efficacy. Strictly following the previous method of cooking and refining, the resulting Dan shines brilliantly. Those willing to use it to treat sores and ulcers achieve merits not inferior to specialized surgeons. Thus, it is renamed Jingyun Gen.
