Jun Huo (Ministerial Fire) causes simmering, Xiang Huo (Ministerial Fire) causes simmering; when the fire recedes, two rings appear on the Feng Lun (Cornea), with Yin and Yang rings being equally round. The heart is anxious, the mind is unsettled; when will the Tong Shen (Pupil/Eye Spirit) become clear and bright, revealing the Nine Heavens after parting the clouds?
This condition manifests as two layers of Yi (Cataract/Opacity) growing on the Hei Jing (Cornea): one in the center is hollow/deficient, and one is solid. The two opacities interlock like the Yin-Yang symbol, hence the name. If the opacity is white with a slight scorched yellow tint, bound by fine red vessels, and is smooth and deep, it cannot be removed. These are mostly dangerous conditions; after the opacity recedes and appears, tracing its origin and treating with patience may yield slight improvement. Another case involves each eye retaining one opacity, contrasting left and right, called Yin-Yang Circle, which is even more critical and urgent.
Old opacities obscure the Shen Shui (Aqueous Humor), appearing crystal clear and agile. Like a bright moon over an autumn river, or clean water in a jade pot, it presents a similar aesthetic quality. Vision seems stuck in the Huai Shi (Marketplace); why do both eyes fail to assist? Current scenery turns into past traces in a moment; what can be done?
This condition is also an old opacity, appearing faintly or intermittently, either patchy or dotted, remaining on the Feng Lun (Cornea). Its color is bright white and very thin. Although it looks easy to treat, it is not so. If it covers the Tong Zi (Pupil), there is slight blurriness and shortened vision. This is because the Qing Jing (Cornea) has depressions where medication and grinding cannot reach, failing to supplement the Yuan Shen (Original Spirit), thus preventing the Shen Shui from becoming clear and the Jing Zhu (Lens) from being sufficient. Or, if the Fu Yun Bao Zheng (Acute Opacity) was not fully cleared internally, and Bing Pian (Borneol) and Xiao Shi (Mirabilite) were applied excessively, causing heat and cold energies to clash and accumulate. The texture is jade-like and brilliant, hence my metaphor of "Ice Pot and Autumn Moon." It requires patient, long-term treatment to slightly reduce it. However, since 70% of such cases remain visible, who would devote themselves for years? Moreover, opacity-removing medications make the vision more blurred upon application; those with delicate ocular tissues intolerant to toxicity will suffer severe redness and swelling. People see this and say, "Eyes go blind if not treated." The reason lies here; stop treatment urgently. In cases where Hun Ming Zhang (Hazy Corneal Opacity) is completely gone, leaving only one opacity that is bright and white, reflecting light, this specialty calls it "Lone Star Accompanying the Moon"; this name is also acceptable.
For all old opacities, regardless of density or thickness, if they are solid and smooth, or like snow and powder, penetrating directly to the back of the Feng Lun (Cornea) and the surface of the Xun Lang (Deep Corneal Structure), they are all considered incurable disabilities (Fei Ji), and medical treatment should not be discussed.
