Epidemic pathogens simultaneously affect the Sanjiao (Triple Burner), causing a dysfunction of Ying and Wei (Defensive and Nutritive Qi). Due to constitutional deficiency, there is a risk of Jue syndrome (cold extremities or syncope).
Rhino Horn (Xijiao), Forsythia Fruit (Lianqiao), Fritillaria Bulb (Chuanbeimu), Scrophularia Root (Yuanshen), Honeysuckle Flower (Yinhua), Fresh Acorus Rhizome (Xianchangpu).
The tongue coating is white-gray with prickles; limbs are spasmodic and pulling, leading to convulsions or syncope. Consciousness is slightly clear but resembles sleep; muttering delirium occurs. The foul pathogen tends to close off the mind, requiring opening methods. However, prolonged illness has depleted Stomach Qi, so resolving foulness must be mild, assisted by nourishing Stomach methods.
Ginseng Root (Renshen), Pinellia Tuber (Banxia), Juice of Fresh Acorus Root (Xianchangpu Genzhi), Rice Grain (Jingmi), Ophiopogon Tuber (Maidong).
Foul turbidity inhaled through the mouth and nose settles in the membrane source (Membranous Origin/Moyuan). Lack of appetite and vomiting/regurgitation indicate a disease of the Middle Jiao. The correct method is to unblock turbid obstruction; cool and dispersing agents are contraindicated.
Apricot Seed (Xingren), Areca Seed (Caoguoren), Betel Nut (Binglang), Patchouli Leaf (Huoxiang), Cardamom Seed (Kouren), Processed Pinellia Tuber (Zhibanxia), Magnolia Bark (Nongpi), Ginger Juice (Jiangzhi).
Blackening of the nostrils, shrinking of the tongue, deafness, and dull spirit; cracking and bleeding around the mouth indicate that Body Fluids have been plundered. Gradual coma will ensue. The pathogen has entered the collaterals, described as "internal closure and external collapse."
Tip of Rhino Horn (Xijiao Jian), Scrophularia Root (Yuanshen), Honeysuckle Dew (Yinhualu), Fresh Rehmannia Root (Xianshengdi), Forsythia Fruit (Lianqiao), Calamus Rhizome (Shichangpu).
Additionally, dissolve and administer Zhibao Dan (Precious Treasure Pill).
Foul turbidity blocks the chest and diaphragm; mental confusion and fainting require rapid opening of the orifices.
Niuhuang Wan (Calculus Bovis Pill).
Heat accumulates in the Sanjiao (Triple Burner); irritability, thirst, and insomnia occur. Red macules cover the body; pulses at both wrists are rapid.
Tip of Rhino Horn (Xijiao Jian), Rehmannia Root (Shengdi), Forsythia Fruit (Lianqiao), Honeysuckle Flower (Jinyinhua), Antelope Horn (Lingyangjiao), Scrophularia Root (Yuanshen), Trichosanthes Root (Huafen), Acorus Root (Changpu Gen).
Ying (Nutritive) deficiency causes macules to remain latent and not erupt; sore throat and nausea/vomiting suggest using Shengma Biejia Tang (Cimicifuga and Turtle Shell Decoction) from *Jinkui Yaolue*.
Cimicifuga Rhizome (Shengma, 1 qian), Angelica Sinensis Root (Guishen, 2 qian), Sichuan Pepper (Chuanjiao, 3 fen), Turtle Carapace (Biejia, 4 qian), Red Peony Root (Chishao, 1 qian).
Prolonged heat injures Yin; fluids fail to ascend. Coughing and wheezing occur; the tongue is red with a blackish tint. Lack of appetite and refusal to eat, rough skin resembling fish scales, and incessant thirst indicate the need to nourish Stomach fluids to support the Lungs. Only sweet-cold substances are suitable.
Ophiopogon Tuber (Maidong), Mulberry Leaf (Sangye), Sugarcane Juice (Zheshi), Trichosanthes Root (Huafen), Pear Juice (Lizhi).
Long-standing stagnation causes internal injury, attaching to seasonal damp-heat. The tongue coating is scorched yellow; headache, sweating, and lower back pain indicate a disease of both internal and external factors. Coma and syncope must be closely guarded against.
Antelope Horn (Lingyangjiao), Gardenia Peel (Heizhipi), Scutellaria Root (Huangqin), Calamus Rhizome (Shichangpu), Forsythia Kernel (Lianqiaoren), Curcuma Tuber (Yujin).
Foul turbid heat blocks the spirit, causing coma; yellow tongue coating and hiccups indicate a critical condition. First, administer one dose of Wanshi Qingxin Niuhuang Wan (Wanshi Clear Heart Calculus Bovis Pill).
Seasonal qi combined with fatigue and depression presents with a yellow tongue, shortness of breath, and body pain. Internal injury should be prioritized; wind-dispersing drugs are prohibited.
Apricot Seed (Xingren), Trichosanthes Peel (Gualoupi), Gardenia (Heizhi), Platycodon Root (Jiegeng), Immature Bitter Orange (Zhishi), Talcum (Huashi).
Warm pathogen enters the interior; drowsiness resembles sleep without high fever or intense thirst. Dampness is likely involved, causing body pain and deafness. The interior should be unblocked; do not use dispersing or digesting methods, which violate the taboo of depleting fluids in damp-warmth diseases.
Apricot Seed (Xingren), Gardenia Peel (Zhipi), Fermented Soybean (Xiangchi), Forsythia Fruit (Lianqiao), Curcuma Tuber (Yujin), Light Scutellaria Root (Danqin).
Wind-warmth and damp-heat resemble malaria. Mental confusion, delirious speech, irritability, and thirst indicate this is no longer a exterior syndrome. Mufangji Tang (Stephania Tetrandra Decoction) is the primary treatment.
Stephania Tetrandra (Mufangji), Gardenia (Heizhi), Trichosanthes Peel (Tufuloupi), Gypsum (Shigao), Forsythia Fruit (Lianqiao), Apricot Seed (Xingren).
The pulse on the right is large; the tongue is yellow but there is no thirst. Vomiting of sticky phlegm, restlessness, and unclear speech with persistent fever indicate internal injury from fatigue compounded by warm pathogen invasion.
Magnolia Bark (Nongpi), Tangerine Peel (Guangpi), Liuyisan (Six-to-One Powder), Juice of Calamus Root (Shichangpu Genzhi), White Cardamom Seed (Baikouren), Poria (Fuling), Light Bamboo Leaves (Danzhuye).
This is damp-warmth. Dampness adhering to joints causes pain; dampness obstructing qi channels causes fullness/stuffiness; dampness remaining in the intestines and stomach causes diarrhea. Dampness steaming generates internal heat like fire... (text fragment). Accumulated fatigue severely damages Yang Qi; intestinal wind consumes and leaks Ying Yin. Constitutional deficiency combined with the six exogenous pathogens constitutes a serious condition. The general principle is to harmonize the Yangming and Jueyin meridians.
Scutellaria Root (Huangqin), Toosendan Fruit Peel (Chuanlianpi), Processed Pinellia Tuber (Zhibanxia), Tangerine Peel White (Guangpi Bai), Raw White Peony Root (Shengbaishao), Dark Plum Flesh (Wumei Rou), Poria (Fuling), Phellodendron Bark (Chuanhuangbai).
Dampness causes redness and nodules in the bone joints; turbid phlegm accumulates in the chest. Since eliminating turbidity is incomplete, use Mufangji Tang (Stephania Tetrandra Decoction).
Stephania Tetrandra (Mufangji), Apricot Seed (Xingren), Raw Coix Seed (Shengyiren), Raw Gypsum (Shengshigao), Talcum (Huashi), Aragonite (Han shuishishi), Tongcao (5 qian, decocted as water substitute).
