Use Gualou Gen (Radix Trichosanthis, 2 liang), Fuling (Poria, 3 liang), Shuyu (Dioscoreae Rhizoma, 3 liang), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, 1 piece), and Qumai (Herba Dianthi, 1 liang). Grind into fine powder, mix with refined honey to make pills the size of wu zi (Cocculus indicus seeds). Take 3 pills at a time with water, three times daily. If ineffective, gradually increase to 7–8 pills per dose. This formula treats lin syndrome (dysuria) with difficulty in urination due to fluid retention; the patient suffers from extreme thirst. The efficacy is indicated by free urination and warmth in the abdomen.
Equal parts of Gualou Gen (Radix Trichosanthis) and Moli (Ostreae Concha, calcined) are ground into fine powder. Take one fang cun bi (a square-inch measure) with water each time, three times daily. This treats Baihe Bing (Lily Disease) where thirst does not resolve.
Gui Zhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction) is modified by adding Gualou (Radix Trichosanthis, 2 liang). It treats Taiyang Bing (Taiyang Syndrome) where all symptoms are present, the body is stiff and rigid, and the pulse is unexpectedly deep and slow. This indicates Rou Jing (Soft Spasm), treated primarily with this decoction.
For Baihe Bing (Lily Disease) after improper sweating:
Baihe (Lilii Bulbus, 7 bulbs, split); Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, 3 liang, sliced).
First, wash the Baihe and soak it overnight. When white foam appears on the surface, discard the water. Then decoct the Baihe in 2 sheng of spring water until 1 sheng remains, and strain. Separately, decoct the Zhimu in 2 sheng of spring water until 1 sheng remains.
This refers to Baihe Zhimu Tang (Lily and Anemarrhena Decoction): remove Zhimu and add Jizi Huang (Yolks of Gallus Domesticum Egg, 1 yolk). Decoct the Baihe in spring water as before to obtain 1 sheng of liquid, strain, then incorporate the egg yolk and simmer slightly. Divide into five doses and take warm. This treats Baihe Bing (Lily Disease) after improper vomiting.
This refers to Baihe Zhimu Tang (Lily and Anemarrhena Decoction): remove Zhimu and add Huashi (Talcum, 3 liang, crushed and wrapped in silk) and Daizheshi (Haematitum, size of a bean, crushed and wrapped in silk). Decoct together in spring water as before to obtain 1 sheng, strain. Separately, decoct these two minerals in 2 sheng of spring water to obtain 1 sheng, strain, then mix the two liquids and re-decoct to obtain 1.5 sheng. Divide into doses and take warm. This treats Baihe Bing (Lily Disease) after improper purgation.
This refers to Baihe Zhimu Tang (Lily and Anemarrhena Decoction): remove Zhimu and add Sheng Dihuang Jiang (Fresh Radix Rehmanniae Juice, 1 sheng). Decoct the Baihe in spring water as before to obtain 1 sheng, strain, then incorporate the Rehmannia juice and simmer to 1.5 sheng. Divide into two doses and take warm. Stop medication when the disease is cured; do not continue. Stool may appear black like lacquer. This treats Baihe Bing (Lily Disease) that has not undergone vomiting, purgation, or sweating, yet presents with initial symptoms.
Use Baihe (Lilii Bulbus, 1 sheng) soaked in 1 dou of water overnight for bathing the body. After bathing, eat boiled wheat noodles (zhu bing) without salted fermented soybeans (chi). This treats Baihe Bing (Lily Disease) unresolved for one month, transforming into a complicated pattern.
For those whose thirst does not resolve, use equal parts of Gualou Gen (Radix Trichosanthis) and Moli (Ostreae Concha) ground into fine powder. Take one fang cun bi with water each time, three times daily.
Baihe (Lilii Bulbus, 1 liang, roasted) and Huashi (Talcum, 3 liang) are ground into a powder. Take one fang cun bi with water each time, three times daily. Mild diuresis should occur; stop taking when achieved, and heat will be eliminated. This treats Baihe Bing (Lily Disease) with fever.
Some say it treats alternating chills and fever.
