At the initial onset of this eye disease, it is caused by the fetus suddenly being affected by the qi of shock and pathogenic factors while in the womb. After birth, from the age of five to seven years old, one becomes prone to eye diseases. Initially, the patient suffers from frequent nightmares during sleep, vomiting of phlegm-saliva and yellow fluid, gradually leading to blindness. It usually starts in one eye and then spreads to affect both. When symptoms are first noticed, immediate rest and urgent treatment are required; taking Niudan Wan (Ox Gall Pill) or Xijiao Yinzi (Rhinoceros Horn Decoction) yields immediate results.
The poem states:
Wind-pathogen received in the womb affects the five zang organs, each with its own name.
Tian Diao (a type of pediatric convulsion) arises from the heart's involvement,
While blindness progresses through the liver's pathology.
Vomiting of phlegm-saliva and yellow fluid occurs frequently,
Spirit and color are constantly disturbed by fear.
If both eyes can regain vision,
Only then will a skilled physician see clarity through medication.

Whenever a lump suddenly forms inside the eyelid and produces pus within three to five days, it is commonly known as Touzhen (Hordeolum/Stye). This is caused by heat pathogens lodging between the eyelids, where heat condenses body fluids. In mild cases, only minor nodules form, and recovery occurs once the pus drains and the heat subsides.
