Four large Water Chestnuts (Dioscorea opposita), one tael of Jellyfish (Rhodophyta, processed to remove the toxicity of alum and lime).
Take the above two ingredients, add two zhong of water, decoct until eight parts remain, and take orally.
"Geng" refers to the harmonization of food flavors; "Xue" metaphorically describes its bland yet unique nature, possessing the subtle effect of cooling that penetrates inwardly. Water Chestnut is sweet in taste, Jellyfish is salty in taste, and both are cold in nature.
Three taels of Atractylodis Rhizoma (Maozhu, peeled, soaked in rice wash water, stir-fried with sesame oil), three taels of Poria (Fuling), three taels of Phellodendri Cortex (Huangbai, each one tael processed separately with child's urine, human milk, and salt water), one tael of Alismatis Rhizoma (Zexie), one tael of Cnidii Fructus (Shechuangzi, stir-fried with wine), one tael of Epimedii Folium (Yinyanghuo, thorns removed, steamed with sheep fat), one tael of Nelumbinis Stamen (Bailianxu, washed with wine), one tael of Schisandrae Fructus (Wuweizi), one tael of Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum (Chenxiang, ground into fine powder separately, avoid heat), three taels of Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen), one pair of large Cervi Cornu Pantotrichum (Lurong, roasted with suet), one tael of Foeniculi Fructus (Dahuixiang, seeds removed), one tael of Polygalae Radix (Fengyancao, also known as Chujia), three taels of Meliae Semen (Jinlingzi, steamed with wine, peel and seeds removed), seven taels of Arecae Semen (Dabinglang, sliced after soaking in child's urine).
Grind all the above into powder, use dry Dioscoreae Rhizoma powder as a binder to make pills. Take four qian with salted water on an empty stomach, and take another two qian with warm wine before going to bed.
"Lian Zhen" refers to refining one's own Jing, Qi, and Shen, preventing them from being obscured by Yin pathogens, keeping the mind clear and unobstructed, thereby restoring innate truth. People in the world who consume rich and greasy foods often generate damp-heat. If not regulated, heat fails to permeate, and Yang qi is impaired. Schisandrae Fructus (Wuweizi) astringes the Yin of the five Zang organs, specializing in extracting Metal Qi to generate True Water. These two together consolidate Jing, Qi, and Shen, embodying the mechanism of endless generation. Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum (Chenxiang) enters the Kidney to strengthen Yang and warm Jing; Foeniculi Fructus (Dahuixiang) opens the meridians above and below, connecting internally to the Dantian. These two possess aromatic and penetrating properties. Although the other herbs have tonifying and purging effects, it is their aromatic nature that allows them to enter the interior. Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen) raises the Yang of the five Zang organs; Cervi Cornu Pantotrichum (Lurong) directs the Yang of the extraordinary vessels. These two disseminate True Yang to align with Jing, Qi, and Shen. Meliae Semen (Jinlingzi) drains heat from the Qi level and guides Ministerial Fire downward; Polygalae Radix (Fengyancao) clears heat from the Blood level, causing True Yin to remain within. These two serve as guides for the other herbs.
The purpose is to utilize the rapid descending action of Arecae Semen (Dabinglang) to bring the other herbs to the lowest extremity, and to assist Atractylodis Rhizoma (Baizhu), Poria (Fuling), Alismatis Rhizoma (Zexie), Phellodendri Cortex (Huangbai), and Meliae Semen (Jinlingzi) in clearing the pathways, so as to prevent Cervi Cornu Pantotrichum (Lurong), Foeniculi Fructus (Huixiang), Cnidii Fructus (Shechuangzi), and Epimedii Folium (Yinyanghuo) from exacerbating pre-existing damp-heat. This is also a method of cultivating vitality ("Zhong Yu").
