(Attached: Purpura / Vitiligo-like conditions)
Xue Lizhai treated a male patient who suffered from chronic cough and vitiligo on his legs, characterized by itchy skin with white scales. After taking *Xiaofeng San* (Wind-Dispersing Powder) and similar formulas, the itching intensified, accompanied by red halos. Bleeding was induced via cupping/scarification at various sites; while the red halos subsided, the itching became even more severe. Subsequent administration of *Yuxian Dan* (Immortal Encounter Pill) led to ulceration and exudate, resembling leprosy. The patient presented with cough and expectoration, a bright white complexion, occasionally sallow. This was diagnosed as deficiency-heat in the Spleen and Lung meridians. Initially, *Wuwei Yigong San* (Five-Ingredient Efficacious Labor Powder) was used, slightly reducing the deficiency-heat. Then, *Dihuang Qingfei Yin* (Rehmannia Lung-Clearing Decoction) was administered, gradually clearing Lung qi. Finally, *Bazhen Tang* (Eight-Treasure Decoction) and *Liuwei Wan* (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia) were used, leading to recovery shortly thereafter. Later, the patient experienced recurrent cough, phlegm, and wheezing with itching at the affected sites. Two doses of *Shensu Yin* (Ginseng and Perilla Decoction) were given to disperse wind-pathogens. Subsequently, *Wuwei Yigong San* with added *Jiegeng* (Platycodon Root) was used to tonify Lung qi, resulting in cure. Two years later, the patient developed cough, thirst with desire to drink, and a surging pulse, particularly pronounced at the left Chi position. *Jiaban Bawei Wan* (Modified Eight-Ingredient Pill) was prescribed to nourish Kidney water, leading to recovery.
Another male patient, who had been negligent in sexual activity, frequently suffered from deficiency of the three Yin meridians of the foot. After this condition was cured, he developed purpura/vitiligo on both ankles, spreading to the legs with itching. Scarification bleeding was performed, but the itching worsened daily. Administration of *Xiaofeng* (Wind-Dispersing) medicines caused slight swelling at the lesions, which spread to the upper body, accompanied by blurry and dry eyes. This was diagnosed as Kidney Wind. Initially, *Sisheng San* (Four Fresh Ingredients Powder) was used; after four doses, *Yilao Qufeng Wan* (Master Yi’s Wind-Expelling Pill) was taken for over a month, followed by *Dihuang Wan* (Rehmannia Pill) for another two months, leading to recovery. Later, due to improper diet and lifestyle, the limbs turned red; taking two pills resulted in immediate improvement.
A third male patient suffered from vitiligo. Due to excessive drinking or physical exertion, the lesions became red and itchy. Taking *Xiaofeng San* caused an immediate appearance of red halos and generalized pruritus. Scarification bleeding was performed, and wind-dispersing medicines caused bleeding from the lesions. Strict adherence to *Yuxian Dan* healed the lesions but progressively depleted Yuan Qi (Original Qi). Initially, *Jiuwei Lushui Wan* (Nine-Ingredient Aloe Pill) and *Jiuwei Qianghuo Tang* (Nine-Ingredient Notopterygium Decoction) were administered, causing all symptoms to subside abruptly. Recovery was achieved using *Jiawei Xiaoyao San* (Modified Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) and *Jiawei Siwu Tang* (Modified Four-Substance Decoction).
A female patient suffered from vitiligo and mistakenly believed it to be leprosy, consuming snake wine and other medications, which caused swelling at the lesions and irregular menstruation (every two to three months). Xue stated: "This is internal wind caused by damage to Liver blood." He warned that misusing wind-dispersing medicines would inevitably lead to tendon and vessel spasms. The patient did not believe him and continued treatment for wind-pathogens. Consequently, white scales appeared on the body, and the limbs became curled and contracted. Only then did she accept the diagnosis. Initially, four doses of *Bazhen Tang* were given, followed by two doses of *Sijunzi Tang* (Four Gentlemen Decoction). After more than a month, *Sijunzi Tang* was used again, followed by two doses of *Bazhen Tang*. After another month, symptoms gradually receded, and Yuan Qi slowly recovered. Thereafter, *Sijunzi Tang* was used as the principal formula, assisted by *Xiaoyao San*.
After two months, the scabs fell off, and full recovery occurred after another month.
