Dr. Xue Lizhai treated a three-year-old child with toxic sores on the arm causing pain. The condition resolved after administering Jiedu Wan (Detoxification Pill) and applying Shengong San (Divine Efficacy Powder) externally. If the child frequently suffered from constipation or irritability, Wufu Huadu Dan (Five Blessings Detoxifying Pill) was also effective.
If pus had formed, it should be punctured urgently to drain it. A paper wick dipped in sesame oil was inserted into the sore, followed by application of a plaster. If the child remained calm, medication was not necessary. After the pus was drained, the plaster application continued. For pediatric sores that failed to heal or recurred after healing, the cause was often attributed to the mother consuming roasted, fried, or spicy foods, or having heat syndromes. It was advisable to first treat the mother's heat syndrome by adding Loulu (Radix Euphorbiae Humifusae) to her prescription; upon the mother's consumption, the child's sores would also heal.
A one-year-old child initially developed sores and scabies on the head, which gradually spread to the entire body and persisted for a long time. The condition healed after more than a month of drinking Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) supplemented with Fangfeng (Radix Saposhnikoviae), Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae), and Shengma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae), along with external application of Xiaodu San (Detoxification Powder).
A child presented with several sores on the head and face, characterized by itching and weeping. Wherever the fluid flowed, ulcers formed. This condition is named Huangshui Chuang (Yellow Water Sore). It was treated with a paste made from Lvdou Fen (Powder of Vigna Radiata Seed) and Songxiang (Resina Pini) mixed in Xiangyou (Sesame Oil), combined with oral administration of Jingfang Baidu San (Schizonepeta and Saposhnikovia Powder to Overcome Toxicity), resulting in recovery.
Another child had several sores on the head and face, accompanied by itching and accumulated crusts, known as Nian Chuang (Sticky Sore). Equal parts of Kubai Fan (Calcined Alum) and Huangdan (Litharge) were ground into powder, mixed with sesame oil for topical application, and followed by oral administration of Baidu San (Toxin-Overcoming Powder), leading to cure.
A child suffered from urticaria with itching, fever, and restlessness, treated with Xiaofeng San (Wind-Dispersing Powder). Another child with similar symptoms, who also experienced coughing and vomiting, was cured using Gegen Chupi Tang (Pueraria and Tangerine Peel Decoction).
A child developed several blisters on the neck, face, chest, and abdomen, which ulcerated into sores. This resulted from wind pathogen invading the skin and is named Biaochuang (Blistering Sore). Treatment involved oral Jingfang Baidu San and topical application of powdered Niufen (Cow Dung) calcined to retain its properties, resulting in recovery. Additionally, Biaochuang is considered highly toxic; lesions resemble millet grains, growing up to the size of a chestnut, appearing unpredictably, mostly on fingers, and bleeding upon ulceration. Topical application of Nanxing (Rhizoma Arisaematis), Banxia (Rhizoma Pinelliae), and Baizhi (Radix Angelicae Dahuricae) powders was used. Severe cases might present with exposed bone or delirium and agitation.
A child suffered from generalized scabies, alternating between itching and pain, with emaciation, fever, dry mouth, thirst, and loose stools, persisting for over a year. This was diagnosed as liver and spleen food stagnation with郁热 (depressed heat). Administration of Lushui Wan (Aloe Pill) led to recovery within less than a month.
A child with food stagnation took agents to break stagnation, resulting in limb sores resembling scabies. Subsequent use of detoxifying herbs caused red, itchy bumps and oozing pus. Initially, Wuwei Yigong San (Five-Ingredient Extraordinary Meridian Powder) supplemented with Chaihu (Radix Bupleuri) and Shanzhi (Fructus Gardeniae) was used to tonify the spleen and stomach and soothe the liver wood, reducing redness and itching. Subsequently, Simaifei'er Wan (Four-Ingredient Child-Nourishing Pill) and Wuwei Yigong San were administered to resolve the food stagnation.
A female patient presented with facial erythema and itching, alternating chills and fever, and convulsions. After taking wind-dispersing herbs, she developed bumps that wept when scratched. This was identified as Liver Blood Wind-Heat Syndrome. She was first treated with Jiawei Xiao Chai Hu Tang (Modified Minor Bupleurum Decoction) and subsequently with Simaifei'er Wan, resulting in recovery.
A child with food-injury cough presented with itchy, slightly swollen head and face. One dose of Xiaofeng San was given first, followed by Zhizi Qinggan San (Gardenia Liver-Clearing Powder), leading to complete recovery.
A child with generalized sores, irregular urination, cervical lymphadenopathy, and frequent blinking of both eyes, experienced eyebrow loss after taking wind-dispersing agents. This was diagnosed as Liver Meridian Wind-Heat Syndrome. Da Lushui Wan (Large Aloe Pill) was administered first, followed by Simaifei'er Wan, leading to gradual improvement. Later, due to food stagnation causing fever, the sores recurred. Dahuang Tui Tang (Large Rhubarb and Wormwood Decoction) and Simaifei'er Wan were used for recovery. Thereafter, whenever food stagnation occurred, causing generalized redness and itching, Simaifei'er Wan provided relief.
A child presented with facial edema and generalized eczema-like lesions. Half a year later, these transformed into purple, itchy bumps. Application of Badou (Seed of Croton Tiglium) and other drugs caused skin breakdown and weeping, accompanied by pain, itching, chills, fever, and hard stools. The spleen and lung pulses were surging, rapid, and excess. Fangfeng Zhujing San (Saposhnikovia Decoction for All Meridians) was administered first. Once bowel movements normalized, Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) supplemented with Jingjie (Herba Schizonepetae), Fangfeng, Huangqin, Chaihu, Jiaoci (Spina Gleditsiae), and Gancao Jie (Node of Licorice Root) was used, leading to gradual improvement. Further treatment with Bazhen Tang (Eight-Treasure Decoction) supplemented with Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae), Jingjie, Fangfeng, Jiaoci, and Wujia Pi (Cortex Acanthopanacis Senticosi) resulted in full recovery. Later, exertion triggered upper body erythema, worsening in the late afternoon, indicating Qi and Blood deficiency with fire. Siwu Tang supplemented with Mudanpi (Cortex Moutan), Renshen (Radix Ginseng), Baizhu, and Chaihu was used, showing slight improvement. Finally, Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Middle-Boosting Qi-Invigorating Decoction) supplemented with Jiuchao Hei Zhimu (Wine-fried Black Rhizoma Anemarrhenae) and Heibai (Black Phellodendri Cortex) led to complete recovery after more than a month.
A child with generalized sores, hematochezia, fever, thirst, abdominal distension with visible veins, and falling eyebrows was treated with Da Lushui Wan and Wuwei Yigong Wan. The sores gradually improved. Supplementing with Buzhong Yiqi Tang, plus Wuzhuyu (Fructus Evodiae) and Zhi Huanglian (Prepared Rhizoma Coptidis), stopped the bleeding and healed the sores.
A female patient with pre-existing Liver Fire developed cervical lymphadenopathy, chills, fever, and afternoon fever due to anger. Generalized erythema and itching appeared. After taking wind-dispersing herbs, scratching caused weeping and lip/mouth twitching. This was diagnosed as Spleen Meridian Blood Deficiency generating internal heat and wind. Zhizi Qinggan San supplemented with Gouteng (Uncaria Rhynchophylla) reduced chills and fever immediately. Danggui Chuanxiong San (Angelica and Ligusticum Powder) was then used for gradual improvement, followed by Jiawei Xiaoyao San (Modified Free Wanderer Powder) for complete recovery.
A child suffered from generalized itching, sometimes feeling like insects crawling. Oral Huma San (Sesame Powder) and external detoxifying applications caused ulceration at the sites, resembling leprosy. Observation of lip twitching and eye blinking indicated Liver Wood overacting on Spleen Earth. Shengma Tang (Cimicifuga Decoction) was decocted to administer Xieqing Wan (Drain Green Pill), leading to gradual improvement. Huapi San (Birch Bark Powder) was then used for recovery.
A child with generalized itching and erythema, followed by persistent weeping, was first treated with two doses of Guipi Yin (Restore the Spleen Decoction), then Huma San, resulting in recovery. Later, fright combined with food stagnation caused fever and erythema. Yueju Wan (Regulating Depression Pill) 1 qian, along with Zhike (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae), Baizhu, and Pengzhu (Rhizoma Curcumae Phaeocaulis) powders each 5 fen, were mixed with green onion soup and taken twice. One dose of Xiaofeng San rapidly cleared the erythema, followed by Yueju Wan for final recovery.
