Dr. Xue Lizhai treated a pediatric patient suffering from white sores on the head, with shiny and tight skin, unresponsive to various medications. This condition is named "Nao Gan Chuang" (Brain Malnutrition Sore), caused by fetal toxins combined with wind-heat. The patient recovered after taking Longdan Wan (Gentian Pill), having Lu Hui powder (Aloe Powder) insufflated into the nose, and applying Jiedu San (Detoxification Powder) externally. In severe cases, where hair matts into tufts, the head feels hot as fire, the whole body sweats, cheeks swell, and the chest protrudes, this medication should definitely be administered.
Another pediatric patient presented with coughing, wheezing, high fever, aversion to cold, skin resembling millet grains, itchy nose with runny discharge, throat discomfort, ulceration of the chin with blood spitting, abdominal distension, and scorched hair. This is termed "Fei Gan" (Lung Malnutrition). The patient was cured using Dihuang Qingfei Yin (Rehmannia Lung-Clearing Decoction) and Huachong Wan (Worm-Dissolving Pill).
Yet another pediatric patient exhibited furrowed eyebrows, frequent crying, vomiting of clear foam, abdominal pain, abdominal distension with visible blue veins, purple-black lips and mouth, and anal itching. This is named "Hui Gan" (Roundworm Malnutrition), treated successfully with Da Lu Hui Wan (Large Aloe Pill). If parasites eat into the spine, causing fever, jaundice, emaciation, irritability, warmth, and frequent urination; if patting the back produces a drum-like sound; if the spinal bones protrude like saw teeth; and if sores appear on the ten fingers with constant gnawing, this is "Ji Gan" (Spinal Malnutrition), which should also be treated with the aforementioned pill.
In another case, a pediatric patient developed sores outside the nostrils, frequently rubbing and scratching them, spreading to both ears, unresponsive to other drugs. Recovery occurred using Lu Hui Wan (Aloe Pill) and an external application of Song Xiang Lv Dou Mo (Pine Resin and Mung Bean Powder).
A ten-year-old pediatric patient suffered from chronic tinea and scabies, resulting in emaciation, alternating chills and fever, heat in the head but coldness in the feet, loose diarrhea with abdominal pain, gingival ulceration with foul breath, dry thirst, black nails, and sallow complexion. This is identified as "Shen Gan" (Kidney Malnutrition). The patient recovered after taking Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill) and applying Jiedu San (Detoxification Powder) externally.
A fifteen-year-old pediatric patient presented with generalized scabies-like lesions, dripping pus, body heat, oral heat, dry mouth, and extreme emaciation ("bone-standing"), lasting for four years. Diagnosed as Kidney Malnutrition, the patient recovered using Liuwei Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill). Later, penile itching and cloudy white urine appeared, and the scabies resembled "Da Feng" (Great Wind/Leprosy). Using Luhu Siwei Fei'er Wan (Aloe Four-Ingredient Child-Nourishing Pill), symptoms gradually improved, followed by full recovery using Dawuyi Tang (Large Cnidium Decoction).
A pediatric patient had a hard nodule in the neck, resembling a millet grain, with sallow complexion and poor appetite, unresponsive to Toli medicines (Supporting Interior Medications). This was diagnosed as "Wugu Gan Du" (Gu-less Toxin Malnutrition), cured by Chanshu Wan (Toad Pill). If repeated doses fail to reduce the swelling, and upon palpation the mass moves, is soft, and painless, indicating worms inside like powder, they should be punctured and removed immediately. If not removed quickly, the worms will travel with Qi and erode internal organs, leading to untreatable conditions. The preparation method for the pill involves: taking one toad from summer ditches, selecting those with large abdomens that do not jump or croak. First, collect maggots from feces, crush the toad, and throw it into the maggots for them to consume. Then, place the mixture in a new cloth bag and form pills the size of hemp seeds. Administer 20-30 pills per dose, taken on an empty stomach with rice water.
Another pediatric patient presented with generalized sores, matted hair, fallen eyebrows, muscle wasting, sour-smelling stool, irregular urination, cervical lymphadenopathy, abdominal distension with prominent veins. Initially treated with Wuwei Yigong San (Five-Ingredient Extraordinary Efficacy Powder). After more than a month, treated with Siwei Fei'er Wan (Four-Ingredient Child-Nourishing Pill), followed by Dawuyi Tang (Large Cnidium Decoction) and Yigong San, resulting in recovery.
A pediatric patient with sallow face, red cheeks, thirst, palpitations, and heat in the palms, along with generalized scabies-like rash, was diagnosed with Xin Jing Nei Wai Gan Zheng (Heart-Fright Internal and External Malnutrition Syndrome). The patient recovered using Fei'er Wan (Child-Nourishing Pill) as the main formula, assisted by Anshen Wan (Calming Spirit Pill) from *Mizhi* (Secret Instructions).
The two-year-old son of Vice Minister Shi presented with a nodule behind the neck and frequent head tilting backward. It was initially mistaken for an internal rupture of a hot sore and treated with needle drainage and detoxifying herbs. Subsequently, the child cried while bending his waist. This was identified as Wugu Gan (Gu-less Malnutrition): bending the waist while crying indicates "Nei Diao" (Internal Hanging); looking upward indicates "Wai Diao" (External Hanging). The child unfortunately died.
A few-year-old pediatric patient had two nodules behind the head, with normal skin color and no swelling, corresponding to the Bladder Meridian. Observing the shape and examining stool color indicated involvement of the Liver, Spleen, and Kidney meridians. Treated with Jiwei Lu Hui Wan (Nine-Ingredient Aloe Pill) to clear the Liver and Spleen, and Dihuang Wan (Rehmannia Pill) to tonify Kidney Water. The physical condition gradually strengthened, and the nodules disappeared within two months.
Another pediatric patient presented with generalized sores, either itchy or painful, emaciation, day-and-night fever, dry mouth and thirst, and irregular stools, persisting for over a year. Treated with Lu Hui Wan (Aloe Pill) to regulate the Liver, combined with Wuwei Yigong San (Five-Ingredient Extraordinary Efficacy Powder) to tonify the Spleen, resulting in recovery.
