[Formula for treating Jiaoqi (Beriberi) with Qi-toxin causing external restlessness and heat in the flesh, sores, swelling, madness, as well as various Dan-stone toxins, miasma, seasonal pathogens, and all wind-heat syndromes]

Shengma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae) 3 liang, Daqing (Folium Isatidis) 3 liang, Sangbaipi (Cortex Mori Radicis) 2 liang, Xijiao xie (Hornis Rhinocerotis) 1.5 liang, Lingyangjiao (Cornu Saigae Tataricae) 1 liang, Hezi (Fructus Chebulae) 30 pieces (pits removed), Feilang (Nux Arecae Preparata) 30 pieces, Sumu (Lignum Sappan) 6 liang, Shanzhizi (Fructus Gardeniae) 30 pieces, Huaihua mo (Flos Sophorae) 1 liang, Danzhuye (Folium Bambusae) 4 liang.

All herbs are finely chopped, soaked in two dou of water overnight, and decocted to obtain one dou of liquid. Add ten jin of high-quality Puxiao (Natrii Sulfas) and decoct again. Stir with a willow twig whisk in a new clay basin, let stand overnight, and filter out the remaining undecocted water to form Hongxue Shengong Wan (Red Snow Divine Efficacy Pill).

[Indicated for various constipation and stagnation, and pain/swelling/fullness in the waist and legs caused by pathogenic qi flowing downward during seasonal transitions]

Dahuang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei) 3 liang, Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng) 0.5 liang, Hezi (Fructus Chebulae, processed, pits removed) 2 liang, Mah ren (Semen Cannabis) 5 liang (separately ground).

The above herbs are pounded and ground into fine powder. Honey is refined and used to make pills the size of Sophora seeds. Take 30 pills each time with warm water, at any time. The treatment is considered effective when bowel movements become unobstructed; if not, increase the number of pills. Adjust dosage according to age and condition for the elderly and children.

[Treating Kidney Qi deficiency with exogenous Wind-Dampness causing Yin Jiaoqi (Beriberi), tendon spasm and contracture, damp-bi syndrome leading to flaccidity and weakness. It directs Qi downward and eliminates pathogenic factors between the sinews and bones.]

[Indicated symptoms include]: Numbness due to Dampness obstruction, Cold-Jue (cold extremities) and Wei-Bi (flaccidity-obstruction), pain in the lumbar spine and feet, cold knees, calf cramps, tightness in the legs preventing prolonged standing, dull pain when walking as if stepping on objects.

Shinan ye (Folium Nandinae, roasted, hairs removed) 6 liang, Guirou (Cortex Cinnamomi) 6 liang, Fuzi (Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata) 6 liang, Fangfeng (Radix Saposhnikoviae) 6 liang, Niuxi (Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae, wine-soaked) 8 liang, Baifuling (Poria) 8 liang (peel removed), Shudihuang (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata) 2 liang, Tusizi (Semen Cuscutae, wine-soaked) 2 liang, Yiyiren (Semen Coicis) 6 liang, Wujia pi (Cortex Acanthopanacis) 6 liang.

The above herbs are ground into fine powder. One Mu Gua (Fructus Chaenomelis, peel and seeds removed, steamed and mashed into paste) is used to mix with the herb powder. If the mixture is too dry or hard, add a little cooked honey. Make pills the size of Sophora seeds. Take 30 pills empty stomach with Mu Gua wine, twice daily.

[Treating Miasma-Toxin invading the body, Wind-Cold-Damp-Bi causing facial paralysis (mouth deviation and distortion), hemiplegia, limb spasms, severe joint swelling and pain, insensitivity of the lower abdomen. Named Jiaoqi (Beriberi); this formula treats all such conditions.]

Jinya shi (Magnetitum) 1 jin, Rongrong (Herba Cistanches) (scales removed, wine-soaked), Baifuling (Poria) (peel removed), Fuzi zi (Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata) (peel and umbilicus removed), Tianxiong (Radix Aconiti Kusnezoffii Preparata) (processed, peel removed), Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis), Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng), Fangfeng (Radix Saposhnikoviae), Huangqi (Radix Astragali), Shuyu (Rhizoma Dioscoreae), Xixin (Herba Asari), Guirou (Cortex Cinnamomi) (peel removed), Bixie (Rhizoma Dioscoreae Hypoglaucae), Weiling (Rhizoma Polygonati Odorati), Baizhi (Radix Angelicae Dahuricae), Jiegeng (Radix Platycodonis), Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae), Yuanzhi (Radix Polygalae) (heart removed), Manjingzi (Fructus Viticis), Chuanxiong (Rhizoma Chuanxiong), Digupi (Cortex Lycii Radicis), Wujia pi (Cortex Acanthopanacis), Duzhong (Cortex Eucommiae, stir-fried and crushed), Houpo (Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis, roasted), Zhishi (Fructus Aurantii Immaturus, bran-roasted, placenta removed), Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae), each 3 liang; Duhuo (Radix Angelicae Pubescentis) 0.5 jin; Yichen (Herba Artemisiae Scopariae), Shinan ye (Folium Nandinae, slightly roasted), Gouji (Os Rhopalii) (hairs removed), each 2 liang; Niuxi (Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae), Danshen (Radix et Rhizoma Salviae Miltiorrhizae), each 5 liang; Cishi (Magnetitum) 10 liang; Yiyiren (Semen Coicis), Maidong (Radix Ophiopogonis) (heart removed), each 10 liang; Shihu (Caulis Dendrobii) 8 liang (roots removed); Duoluo (Herba Siegesbeckiae) 4 liang; Shengdihuang (Radix Rehmanniae) cut, 2 sheng.

The above 39 ingredients are chopped and soaked in eight dou of wine for seven days. Warm drink one ge (approx. 20ml) per dose, 4-5 times daily. Alternatively, grind the medicine finely, place in a silk bag, and soak together with other medicines. This preparation has mild efficacy and a wide range of indications. For anyone feeling wind-pathogens in the four limbs due to Wind-Deficiency, it can be taken seasonally. Formulas should be combined according to the specific case; do not readily believe exaggerated claims.
