Taste is sweet. Nature is salty. Non-toxic. Deer belongs to Yang, while Musk Deer belongs to Yin.
[Indications] Primarily treats wind-bi (pain and numbness in limbs and joints caused by wind pathogen), stops bleeding, and boosts energy. (from *Bielu*) Treats yin-deficiency consumptive disease (chronic weakness due to yin fluid depletion), all blood diseases causing soreness and pain in bones, sinews, waist, and knees; nourishes yin and tonifies the kidney.
[Meridian Tropism] Enters the Kidney Meridian. It is a specific substance for tonifying true yin (yin essence of the kidney). (Its effects of nourishing yin and blood are identical to Deer Antler and Deer Horn.)
[Preliminary Discussion] Xu Zhicai said: Musk Deer Antler and Deer Horn belong to Yin; therefore, they treat insufficiency of true yin, consumptive fatigue, insensibility of bones, sinews, waist, and knees, and all conditions of blood deficiency.
[Contraindications] Miao Xiyong said: Contraindicated for those with deficient and scanty yang qi, emaciation, and excessive cold.

[Indications] Primarily treats abdominal urgency and heaviness, postpartum residual disorders, and head conditions involving exposure to great wind with sweating; treats consumptive cold, tonifies the middle and boosts qi, calms the mind and arrests fright. (from *Bielu*) Treats five labors (various chronic consumptive diseases), and strengthens yang.
[Meridian Tropism] Enters the Spleen and Lung meridians. It is a substance that assists primordial yang and benefits consumptive disease. (Ginseng tonifies qi in the middle jiao; Mutton tonifies form on the exterior.)
[Preliminary Discussion] Li Dongyuan said: Mutton is a tangible substance capable of tonifying the qi of tangible muscles. Thus it is said that "tonification can remove weakness." Substances such as Renshen (Ginseng) and Mutton...
[Contraindications] Miao Xiyong said: If pregnant women consume it, it causes the child to have excessive heat, leading to bone-steaming tidal fever (a symptom common in tuberculosis), malaria, dysentery with heat, carbuncles and sores, xiaoke (wasting-thirst syndrome resembling diabetes), hematemesis, and gastric discomfort.
[Cow's Milk]
Taste is sweet. Nature is slightly cold. Non-toxic. It can ascend and descend; it belongs to Yin.
[Indications] Primarily tonifies extreme emaciation and weakness, relieves thirst. (from *Bielu*) Nourishes the Heart and Lungs, resolves heat toxicity, and moistens the skin. (from *Rihua*) Treats regurgitation and hot hiccups, tonifies consumptive damage, treats dysentery, and eliminates wasting-thirst symptoms. (from Meng Shen, Chen Cangqi)
