Salty in flavor, neutral in nature, toxic. Primarily treats Gui Zhu (ghostly infection, a chronic wasting disease caused by evil qi) and Gu Du (poisoning from gu magic), as well as alternating chills and fever, palpitations, epilepsy, mania, and running wild. The hair of the camel is particularly effective.
Tao Hongjing stated: The "Six Domestic Animals" refer to horses, cattle, sheep, pigs, dogs, and chickens. Mules and donkeys also belong to this category, but they are rarely used in medical formulas and clinical practice. Furthermore, dog hair and hooves have already been listed separately in their respective categories, so their therapeutic indications need not be the same as those described here. The annotation in *Tang Bencao* states: Camel hair, hooves, and claws are most effective for treating leukorrhea (red and white vaginal discharge) in women.
*Tujing Bencao* has detailed records under the entry for "Wild Camel Fat." The above five items are supplements from Chen Cangqi.
Sweet in flavor, neutral in nature. Primarily tonifies insufficient blood in the human body. For conditions such as blood exhaustion causing scaling skin and lack of luster in the face, these all indicate insufficiency. It should be drunk raw. It can also detoxify various medicines and fungi, relieve thirst, clear Dan Du (erysipelas/toxic heat), remove irritability and heat, and eating tendons increases strength.
Salty in flavor, non-toxic. Primarily treats malaria and miasma, chills and fever. It can be boiled and eaten, or its hide can be made into a mattress for sitting. This animal resembles a monkey, has a human-like face, and fur like a teal duck; its ribs can also be used for mattresses. *Nanzhou Yiwu Zhi* records: In Jiaozhou, there is an animal called "Guoran Shou," which calls out its own name. It resembles an ape, has a white body with black stripes, a tail longer than its head, nostrils facing upward, and uses its tail to block its nostrils during rain. Its fur is warm and fine. *Erya* records: KT (an archaic character referring to an animal with upturned nose and long tail). Guo Pu's annotation is similar to this description.
Non-toxic. Primarily treats five types of "wild chicken diseases." Applying its fat to sores, eating its flesh and blood, or sitting on its hide can cure wild chicken diseases over time. This animal resembles a monkey but is larger, with long yellow-red fur. It lives in the valleys of southern mountains. People use its hide to make saddle pads and mattresses.
Resembling a woven mesh bag, seemingly made of tendon glue, about the size of a duck egg. If someone commits theft, burning it causes the thief's legs to spasm and contract, thereby facilitating capture. Some say it is the tendon dropped by a wild wolf. Others say it is made by insects; it is unknown which is correct. Wild wolves are as large as dogs, grayish-blue in color, and secrete mucus from all orifices when crying.
Animals with forked tails cause death. Deer-leopard patterns cause death. Sheep hearts with holes cause death. Horse hooves slaughtered at night, if eaten after the fifth month, cause death. Dogs with hanging hooves have toxic meat that causes death. Do not eat. Meat in rice jars causes death. Meat dried jerky wetted by leaking rain causes death. Meat containing star-shaped spots like rice grains causes death. Mutton jerky after the third month grows worms resembling horse tails, which are toxic and cause death. Jerky that is not dried thoroughly, cannot be moved by fire, does not digest in the abdomen, and is stored for a long time in millet jars causes Qi closure (suffocation). Eating meat from under the saddle of a white horse damages the five zang organs. White meat of horses and deer should not be eaten. Consuming milk, cheese, and strong vinegar together causes bloody dysentery. Pregnant women should not consume donkey, horse, or rabbit meat. Consuming milk, cheese, fried fish sashimi, and melon together immediately causes Huoluan (cholera-like acute gastroenteritis). Consuming pork and beef together causes Cunbai Chong (tapeworm infection). Various meats that do not shrink or release water when cooked thoroughly cause Jia masses (abdominal tumors) upon consumption. Eating rabbit meat combined with dried ginger causes Huoluan. Wild jerky bought in markets often contains She Wang (aconite toxin); excessive consumption of various meats can be resolved by drinking meat juice; consuming brain tissue leads to immediate dissolution.
