The Qi of the four seasons and eight directions transforms into Wind, which is typically observed on the day of the Winter Solstice. When Wind blows from its native direction, it nourishes all things; when it does not blow from its native direction, it is called Empty Wind (Xu Feng), which harms humans. If the human body is deficient, it will be struck by this Wind. The Shu points (Back-Shu acupoints) of the Zang and Fu organs are all located on the back. If the Zang and Fu organs are deficient, Wind pathogens enter through these Shu points. Once affected, the disease manifests according to the specific organ involved.
Wind striking the Heart: The patient can only lie supine and cannot turn to the side, accompanied by sweating. If the lips are red with profuse sweating, it is treatable; urgently moxa the Xinshu (BL-15) point for one hundred Zhu units. If the lips are cyanotic, pale, yellowish, or black, this indicates Heart failure leading to Water overflowing (Heart坏了为水). If the face appears fixed and dull, with frequent tremors or startles, it is untreatable, and death will occur within five to six days.
Wind striking the Liver: The patient can only sit in a squatting position and cannot bow the head. If there is a slight bluish discoloration around both eyes extending to the forehead, and the lips are cyanotic while the face is yellow, it is treatable; urgently moxa the Ganshu (BL-18) point for one hundred Zhu units. If the color is deeply cyanotic and black, and the face is half yellow and half white, the Liver is already damaged, it is untreatable, and death will occur in a few days.
Wind striking the Spleen: The patient sits in a squatting position with abdominal fullness, generalized jaundice, and vomiting of salty fluid. It is treatable; urgently moxa the Pishu (BL-20) point for one hundred Zhu units. If the hands and feet are cyanotic, it is untreatable.
Wind striking the Kidney: The patient sits in a squatting position with lower back pain. If there are no yellow patches the size of a cake on either side of the hypochondrium, it is treatable; urgently moxa the Shenshu (BL-23) point for one hundred Zhu units. If the teeth are yellowish-red, the hair at the temples stands erect, and the complexion is like earth, it is untreatable.
Wind striking the Lung: The patient lies supine with chest fullness, shortness of breath, dizziness, stifling sensation, and sweating. If the skin below the eyes, on both sides of the nose, extending down to the mouth is white, it is treatable; urgently moxa the Feishu (BL-13) point for one hundred Zhu units. If the skin is yellow, the Lung is already damaged and transformed into blood stasis; it is untreatable. The patient will exhibit delirious grasping at empty air or picking at clothes, and death will occur after several days. Contracting Wind during pregnancy is not merely an illness affecting the pregnant woman; in severe cases, it damages the fetus.
When the body is deficient and exposed to Wind, the Taiyang Meridian (Bladder Channel) is injured. The pathogen stagnates in the meridians. Later, if Cold-Dampness combines with it, an attack results in trismus (lockjaw) and rigidity of the back, known as Spasm (Jing). When occurring during pregnancy, it presents with dizziness, loss of consciousness, followed by brief recovery and recurrence. This is also caused by Wind injuring the Taiyang Meridian leading to Spasm. It is also named Zi Xian (Eclampsia of Pregnancy) or Zi Mao (Dizziness of Pregnancy).
