If the patient's face appears cyanotic and cold, accompanied by head swelling, this is due to wind invasion following a head injury. It is appropriate to administer Xiaofeng San (Wind-Expelling Powder). If there is no response, immediately administer Mugan Tang (Wood Fragrance and Licorice Decoction) to harmonize the wind qi, which will naturally yield results. Mugan Tang consists of equal parts of Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), Chenxiang (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), and Binglang (Arecae Semen) as the main ingredients, taken together with Xiaofeng San.
For those beaten who are unconscious or die instantly, this is caused by blood stasis congealing in the heart. It is appropriate to administer Huoxue Zhitong San (Blood-Invigorating and Pain-Relieving Powder), which can invigorate blood and nourish the spirit. If there is no response, take Mugan Tang again, adding it to Huoxue Zhitong San, and take it warm with ginger and wine; results will naturally appear. If still ineffective, subsequently take Chenpi Tang (Tangerine Peel Decoction), added to the previous medicines. Chendpi San consists of Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Yuanhu (Corydalis Rhizoma), Wuyao (Linderae Radix), Guiwei (Angelicae Sinensis Radix caudex), Zhusha (Cinnabaris), and Huoxiang (Pogostemonis Herba), each 2 qian.
For those beaten who exhibit speech disorders or die instantly, this indicates heart injury. It is appropriate to administer Huoxue Zhitong San. If ineffective, administer Yuanzhi San: Yuanzhi (Polygalae Radix), Shichangpu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), and Qingpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride) ground into powder, added to the previous medicine for administration.
For those beaten who suffer from incessant vomiting, this indicates stomach injury. It is appropriate to administer Wanling Tongdao Tang (Ten-Thousand-Spirit Guiding Decoction). If ineffective, administer Banxia Tang: Xuanfuhua (Inulae Flos), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Nanxing (Arisomatis Rhizoma), Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos), Chensha (Cinnabaris), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), and Sharen (Amomi Fructus). This medicine stops vomiting; add it to the previous medicine for administration, and vomiting will cease.
For those beaten who exhibit convulsions and limb movements, this is due to wind invasion causing the loss of control by the Five Spirits (associated with the Heart). It is appropriate to administer Xiaofeng San, adding Yuanzhi, Muxiang, and Zhusha to stop symptoms immediately. If ineffective, add Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba), Mangxiao (Natri Sulfas), and Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra) to the previous medicine for administration, and symptoms will cease.
For those beaten who laugh involuntarily, this indicates waist injury. It is appropriate to administer Huoxue Zhitong San. If ineffective, administer Guiwei San to stop the laughter. Guiwei San consists of Guiwei (Angelicae Sinensis Radix caudex), Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Puhuang (Typhae Pollen), Huguj (Pantheris Os - *Note: Tiger bone*), Ran tong (Natural Pyrite), and Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix). Add these to the previous medicine, Huoxue Zhitong San, for simultaneous administration to achieve efficacy.
For those beaten who cough, this indicates blood injury affecting the lungs. It is appropriate to administer Digupi Tang: Digupi (Lygodii Radix), Sangbai (Mori Cortex), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus), Shudi (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum), Mugua (Chaenomelis Fructus), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Beimu (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus), Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini), with Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) as the guide.
For those beaten where blood flows from the nose, mouth, or eyes, this indicates qi rushing upward to the Large and Small Intestines. It is appropriate to administer Honghua Posan (Safflower Blood-Breaking Powder) to break the blood stasis. If ineffective, administer Sumu San again, added to the previous medicine, to enhance its power. Sumu San consists of Sumu (Sappan Lignum), Guiwei (Angelicae Sinensis Radix caudex), Mubiezi (Strychni Semen), Zijinpi (Ungnadiae Cortex), with Tongbian (Child's Urine) as the guide. (The guide mentioned here differs from the later Sumu San).
For those beaten who vomit feces, this indicates intestinal injury. Treat similarly to cases of vomiting where medication cannot be retained. If ineffective, administer Siwei Tang: Nanxing (Arisomatis Rhizoma), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos), and Sharen (Amomi Fructus), added to Wanling Tongdao Tang for administration.
For those beaten whose urine flows out like water uncontrollably, this indicates small intestine injury. It is appropriate to administer Rushui Xuntong San (Frankincense Seeking-Pain Powder), adding Qumai (Dianthi Herba), Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos), and Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma) for administration. If it does not stop, it is incurable.
(The above ten mantras yield immediate effects. If encountering these symptoms, treat according to the formulas. Miraculous! Miraculous!)
For beaten patients with blackened eyes and face, this indicates severe whole-body trauma. It is appropriate to administer Huoxue Zhitong San. If ineffective, administer Jiangjun Yunqi San (General Qi-Harmonizing Powder); the complexion will improve, and pain will decrease.
For patients with locked jaw, this indicates severe injury compounded by wind invasion. Pour Xiaofeng San into the throat; the lock will naturally open. If ineffective, moxa the Baihui point (GV20) with mugwort fire.
For patients unable to turn their bodies, this indicates waist injury. It is appropriate to administer Huoyao San (Waiver-Activating Powder) and apply hot compress therapy. If ineffective, use Yunqi San adding Honghua (Carthami Flos), Suibu (Dipsaci Radix), Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix), Puhuang (Typhae Pollen), Sangbai (Mori Cortex), and Rendongteng (Lonicerae Japonicae Caulis). This method is highly effective.
For all injuries, this medicine must be used for hot compress therapy; there is no need to use Shensheng San. This is named Jieji Shenxiao San (Swift Divine Efficacy Powder). Use Huaieu (Prepared Aconitum carmichaelii lateral root), Wuyao (Linderae Radix), and Caou (Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix), each 2 liang, ground into powder. Grind 2 liang of fresh ginger until mushy and mix evenly. Take 2 liang of mugwort. The method: first apply the medicine to the affected area, place mugwort on top, cover with a sheet of paper, and slowly iron with a heated iron until the medicine dries.
For broken skin and muscle bleeding, there is no need to use Taohua San (Peach Blossom Powder) for hemostasis; Sanbao San (Three-Treasure Powder) can be used instead, yielding immediate results. This medicine stops bleeding, generates flesh, relieves pain, and closes wounds.
If bleeding continues and medication is ineffective, external treatment is required. The method is to heat a silver ear pick and cauterize the affected area once, then immediately apply medicine; results are instant.
For fractures of joints, back, and waist, palpate and realign the bones. Cut fir bark, removing the rough outer layer, into seven pieces of equal length, and wrap them in cotton paper. Tie the ends of the paper with paper strings. Mix Shensheng San, or Huaishuai San, or Baijin San with natural ginger juice on the paper sheets. Place them to support the injured area and bind firmly, covering four sections including the middle two. Alternatively, simply apply powder from Loquat leaves (Pipaye) or Hibiscus leaves (Furongye). Internally, administer Huoxue Zhitong San, mixed with ginger and wine. For the second dressing change, remove the binding. Gather Camphor leaves, pine needles, tangerine peels, moss from old tiles, and Zuochanteng (Akebiae Caulis), decoct in a basin of water. Cover the basin with a rice sieve, surround with blankets, and let the patient steam the injured part over the hot vapor. After sweating, wash with the medicinal water. Prick the affected area with a silver needle, reapply the previous medicine, then re-bind. Do not untie until healed, waiting for the bone to mature. If the bone is immature and shaky, further damage may occur; re-bind and administer Rushui Xuntong San and Yunqi San. For robust individuals, purgatives may be used.
For severely injured patients with locked jaws and unconsciousness, blow Tongguan San (Pass-the-Gate Powder) into the nostrils. For men, use the left nostril; for women, the right. If sneezing occurs, it is treatable; otherwise, do not treat. Subsequently, force-feed Qibao Dan (Seven-Treasure Pill). After waking, administer Shenmiao Foshou San (Divine Buddha Hand Powder) mixed with boiling water, or decoct and drink it; this calms fright and nourishes the spirit. Further treatment should be based on the specific injury.
When resetting broken bones, first administer Shenmiao Foshou San, then perform the reduction and binding as per standard procedure. Daily, administer Guirui San, mixed with boiled wine and Yi Yang Dan. If the injury is upper body, take after meals; if lower body, take before meals. If bones are fractured and broken, Huoxue Zhitong San should be used. Completion of healing relies on Guirui San, ideally combined with Yi Yang Dan.
For any hand or foot pain, regardless of whether it is new or old, administer Baiyu Lingyan San for immediate relief.
For any new or old injury, regardless of location, use Zijin Dan, mixed with channel-guiding herbs for the respective areas, administered with wine; this is particularly effective for trauma.
For bitten severed tongues, use 5 qian of Wubeizi (Galae Fructus) calcined to retain properties, 1 qian of Zhen Jiangxiang (Agarwood), and 1 qian of Hezi (Terminalia Chebulae Fructus), ground into powder and applied to the severed tongue for miraculous effect. Adding Sanguifei (likely a typo or local term, possibly referring to precious substances), Zhusha (Cinnabaris), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix tip), and SheXiang (Moschus) is even better. First, rinse with juice from green onion and perilla, malt root, and parasitic plant juice, then apply the medicine.
For knife, axe, arrow, or spear wounds that induce wind and edema, urgently apply Huapi (Bark of Sophora japonica) and Northern Mugwort via moxibustion and hot compress to expel the wind, then administer internal medicine.
For washing various sores where the patient has fever due to wind-cold and cannot speak, use Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), Baifuling (Poria), and Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), ground into powder, and administer with Mugua-Renshen Tang (Papaya and Ginseng Decoction) for recovery.
Taohua San (Peach Blossom Powder). If unavailable, burn old fir bark to ash, retaining its properties, and grind into powder. This is suitable for stopping bleeding and relieving pain in broken skin and muscle. If not healed, mix the medicine with clear oil, apply to cloth, and press onto the affected area for improvement.
Shensheng San. For swollen injury sites, add Piaoxiao (Sepiae Endoconcha) and Pu Xiao (Mirabilitum). If swelling persists or fails to subside due to excessive medication causing yin-swelling, use Hejie San (Harmonizing Powder). If blisters form at the ends of the binding, apply Sizheng San mixed with clear oil to resolve them. If tidal fever occurs, urgently administer Xiaofeng San.
Rushui Xuntong San. For head injuries, reduce Nongbo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex) and Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex), and add 5 qian of Shengtianma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma) and 5 qian of Rongrongrou (Cynomorii Fructus), soaked in wine, taken with clear tea. For weak constitutions, add 5 qian of Chuanwu (Aconiti Radix). For injuries to limbs, waist, and back, add 7 qian of Chuanshanjia (Manis Squama) and 5 qian of Chuanwu (roasted), taken with ginger and wine.
Huoxue Zhitong San modifications are the same as Rushui Xuntong San. However, for elderly or weak patients, add Chuanwu (Aconiti Radix) and Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata).
Xiaofeng San. For injuries with tidal fever and delirious speech, this medicine is appropriate. If bitten by another person, add Xionghuang (Realgar) to detoxify.
Shengji San (Flesh-Generating Powder) and Rushui Xuntong San. Xuexue (Dragon's Blood) and Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix tip) generate flesh; Lu Ganshi (Calamina) reduces blood and dries dampness; Xionghuang (Realgar) removes toxicity; Chishizhi (Halloysitum Rubrum) and Longgu (Fossilia Ossis Mastodi et Scapulae) promote wound closure.
Yubian Jiagu San (Convenient Bone-Setting Powder). For blunt trauma and fractures of muscle and bone, this formula is excellent. Burn 1 liang of Huoma (Hemp Seed) to retain properties, and grind 3 he of Chixiaodou (Adzuki Bean). Mix into powder, take with one bowl of good wine; recovery occurs within three doses. If setting bone, apply wax residue salt mud, or paste with wine or vinegar to the site for immediate effect. Change the medicine when dry; healing occurs in seven days.
Secret Bone-Setting Method. Use Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), each 3.5 qian, and Caoou (Aconiti Radix) 3 qian (processed). Grind separately into powder, take 1 qian mixed with warm wine. When feeling numbness, adjust the bone alignment. Immediately apply Oyster shell powder mixed with glutinous rice porridge to the injury. Alternatively, pound a raw rooster and apply it externally. Secure externally with fir wood splints and rope binding to prevent movement. Subsequently administer Rushui (Frankincense), Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Moyao (Myrrhae Resina), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), and Chuanjiao (Zanthoxyli Pericarpium), each 5 qian, along with Ran Tong (Natural Pyrite) 3 qian, ground into powder. Melt 2 liang of Sulfur and mix with the powder, forming pills the size of bullet seeds. Dissolve in good wine and take warm. Lie on the painful side for a short time. If not healed, continue for one or two more doses for great effect. If suffering from tetanus-like swelling, use Nanxing (Arisomatis Rhizoma) and Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) as powder, mixed with wine and one spoon of ginger juice for ingestion. Apply the medicine mixed with wine to the affected area externally; this is very effective.
