I observe that the mechanism of creation lies merely in Water and Fire. The essence of the human body lies merely in Qi (Vital Energy) and Blood. The root of Qi and Blood is Yuan Qi (Original Qi). In the aspect of Yang, it manifests as Heaven, Sun, Fire, Heat, Qi, and Shen (Spirit). In the aspect of Yin, it manifests as Earth, Moon, Water, Cold, Blood, and Jing (Essence). Yang takes Yin as its substance; Yin takes Yang as its function. Without Yang, Yin cannot be generated; without Yin, Yang cannot be transformed. Yin and Yang generate each other, and Water and Fire mutually nourish each other; the principle of Heaven and Humanity is one. This is the natural state. Zhou Dunyi's concept of Taiji (Supreme Ultimate) refers to Shen (Spirit). Shen governs all and encompasses change, thus it is called Taiji, within which Yin-Yang and Water-Fire are contained, existing in a state of undifferentiated unity, formed by the浑成 (holistic integration) of a single Qi. The human body also possesses Taiji, which is Mingmen (Gate of Life). Mingmen is the residence of Spirit and Yuan Qi, located at the junction of Xiadantian (Lower Elixir Field) and Guanyuan (CV-4), serving as the dwelling place of Water and Fire. Therefore, Jing belongs to Water and Yin, governed by the Left Kidney; Shen belongs to Fire and Yang, governed by the Right Kidney. The Right Kidney is the root of Yuan Yang (Original Yang), and the Left Kidney is the master of True Yin (True Yin); yet both are unified under Mingmen. Although Huangdi Neijing (The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine) does not explicitly point out Mingmen, it implicitly reveals its meaning. Regrettably, Nanjing (Classic of Difficult Issues) erroneously associated Mingmen solely with the Right Kidney, leading later wise scholars to repeatedly criticize this view. Further examination of Huangtingjing (Yellow Court Scripture) states: "Above is Huangting, below is Guanyuan, behind you have Youque, in front you have Mingmen." This deeply understands the place where Water and Fire return to their source. In recent times, Li Shizhen wrote "Mingmen Kao" (Examination on Mingmen), and Zhang Jingyue wrote "Mingmen Bian" (Discussion on Mingmen), with lengthy texts repeatedly explaining and clarifying, fully elucidating the principles not expounded in Huangdi Neijing. From this, exploring the mysteries of creation and exhausting the mechanisms of myriad diseases allows one to comprehend through the mind, without relying on pen and tongue. This principle has been mentioned repeatedly by former sages, but because they did not explicitly elaborate on it, learners became accustomed to it without noticing. Generally,有形 (form/physical entities) are easy to see, while 无形 (formless/spiritual entities) are hard to recognize, so no wonder people are like this. Alas, only when one realizes there is thunder beneath the ground can one perceive that the spring light fills the universe. Therefore, I composed this diagrammatic explanation.
