It is a crucial formula for calming the spirit, stabilizing the soul, resolving stasis, and generating new blood in postpartum conditions. For postpartum blood syncope, metrorrhagia, headache, blurred vision, mental agitation, blood stasis rushing up causing blood syncope, liver wind inducing spasms, etc., use Doulin Jiu (Doulin Wine: stir-fry 5 qian of Heidaodou [Glycines Max] until hot, soak in aged wine for a moment, remove beans and use the wine) one cup, and hot Tongbian (Infant Urine) one cup. Stir in this pill. It has proven effective repeatedly like magic.

Note: Sun Jikang said in his treatise on smallpox: Smallpox with fierce poison and blazing flame presents with ugly forms and colors. Upon appearance, it scorches blood and consumes qi, wreaking havoc. Such epidemic smallpox requires urgent attack and resolution; delaying is unacceptable. Resolution should be slow while attack should be fast. Do not merely try cooling resolution, lest you cause organ decay. Fe Jianzhong created this modified decoction. His courage is immense, and his attention to detail is minute. It is extremely effective for treating presentation where blood coagulates and qi stagnates, pustules are not loose, color is dull and lifeless, collaterals are blocked, various pains occur, or clusters resemble strings of pearls, appearing purple-dark, with toxic fire latent and unable to emerge.

Note: This is a large dose for clearing fire from the twelve meridians. For all warm toxins and heat epidemics, with exterior and interior heat, mania and restlessness, irritability, dry mouth and sore throat, high fever and dry vomiting, confused speech and insomnia, hematemesis and epistaxis, heat inducing macules, splitting headache, vexation and delirium, body heat with cold limbs, prickly tongue and scorched lips, upper vomiting and lower diarrhea, with six pulses deep, fine, and rapid. Use large dose. If pulses are deep and rapid, use medium dose. If pulses are floating, large, and rapid, use small dose. If macules appear, add Daqingye (Isatidis Folium, 2 qian) and a small amount of Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, 4-5 fen) to guide toxin outward. This is the method of internal transformation and external resolution, descending turbidity and ascending clarity. Treat one, get one; treat ten, get ten. These words are from Yu Shiyu's "Yi Zhen Yi De" (One Gain from Epidemic Macules). If six pulses are fine, rapid, deep, and hidden, complexion is blue and miserable, coma and confusion, cold limbs, profuse head sweat like rain, splitting pain, abdominal twisting, desire to vomit but cannot, desire to defecate but cannot, males lie supine, females lie prone, shaking head and drumming chin, this is caused by heat toxin deeply penetrating Jueyin, blood stasis, and qi closure. This is concealed plague. Death occurs within half a day. Qingwen Baidu Yin (Plague-Warming Detoxification Drink) should not be lightly tried. Treatment: Urgently puncture Shaoshang (LU 11), Quchi (LI 11), and Weizhong (BL 40) to drain toxin from the Ying level. Administer Guashuang Zixue (Melon Frost Purple Snow) 8 fen to 1 qian to clear and penetrate latent pathogen, allowing it to reach the exterior. Further use New Modified Jiang Fu Tang combined with Jufang Laifu Dan (Official Formula Returning Life Elixir) 1.5 to 2 qian to unblock Yin collaterals. Only then can recovery be hoped for.
