Treats cold hernia (Han Shan) characterized by severe colicky pain in the abdomen. When a thief-wind (Zeifeng, an external pathogenic factor) invades and attacks, it causes spasmodic tension in the five zang organs, making it impossible to turn or shift the body. The attacks occur at specific times and cause retraction of the genitals. (This formula is Da Wutou Jian [Great Aconite Decoction], see above.)
(The rhyme scheme is found in *Changsha Fang Ge Kuo*.) Treats sudden heart and abdominal pain caused by acute invasion of pathogenic factors.
Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix, 4 liang), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, 1.5 liang), Renshen (Ginseng Radix, 1.5 liang), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum, 2.5 he), Dazao (Zizyphi Fructus, 12 pieces), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, 3 liang), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang), Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus, 1.5 liang), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, 1.5 liang).
The above nine ingredients are boiled in six sheng of water until three sheng remain. Take one sheng warm, three times daily.
Treats Zhong'e (acute collapse due to evil qi) presenting with nausea, heart pain, abdominal distension, and constipation.
Badou (Crotonis Fructus, 2 pieces, peeled, core removed, stir-fried), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum, 2 pieces).
The above two ingredients are wrapped in silk, pounded until broken, mixed with two he of hot water, squeezed to extract the white juice, and drunk. It should induce defecation to expel pathogens. Reduce the dose for the elderly. This formula is generally applicable for treating Feishi Guiji disease (flying corpse and ghost strike diseases, referring to sudden acute infectious or toxic conditions).
The rhyme states: External heterogenous qi harms many people; abdominal distension and heart pain rush like a galloping horse. Pound Badou and Xingren together finely; mix with soup and squeeze juice to drive out evil effectively.
Disciple Lin Shiyong notes: Zhong'e causing heart pain and constipation indicates excess pathogens. However, although the pathogen is excess, it is contracted due to underlying deficiency of the body's righteous qi. Therefore, this formula is contraindicated for those with deficiency. In recent times, there is a disease called "Sha Ji" (sand disease/toxic heat syndrome), which is suspected to be this condition. I once heard my former master say that what is currently called Sha Ji is caused by the injury of severe epidemic toxins from the six exogenous pathogenic factors. Wherever the pathogen passes, blood and qi become stagnant and cease to flow. Symptoms may include body pain, abdominal distension and fullness with colicky pain, or general cyanosis of the body, cold limbs, nails colored like indigo, locked jaw, inability to speak, or mental agitation, with death imminent. This indicates the entry of toxic pathogens into the interior. One should purge the toxin, or prick the Chize (LU5), Weizhong (BL40), and ten toes acupoints, ensuring the collaterals are unblocked and blood and qi circulate freely, so the toxic pathogen resolves itself. My opinion is that for mild cases, use the scraping method (Gua Sha), followed immediately by taking Zijin Ding (Purple Gold Pill). Through vomiting, purging, or sweating, ensure the circulation of meridian qi, and the toxic pathogen will also resolve. If there is incessant vomiting and diarrhea, abdominal pain with cold limbs, profuse sweating, and a faint pulse nearly imperceptible, use Baitong Tang (White Tongue Decoction), Tongmai Sini Tang (Pulse-Returning Four Reversal Decoction), or Sini Tang (Four Reversal Decoction) to restore yang qi and transform yin pathogens, so that the epidemic toxic pathogen gradually dissipates. If the mouth cannot open, administer the medicine via nasal instillation. *Ji Yan Liang Fang* states: If travelers contract Sha Ji on the road, they must use the scraping method. After scraping, if the patient loses consciousness, mix soil with human urine, surround the navel with this soil, and have a companion urinate onto the navel. This warms the central palace (middle jiao), allowing the mechanism of qi to rotate and blood vessels to flow.
