Treats Blood Bi (Blood Obstruction) syndrome, characterized by both Yin and Yang pulse positions being faint. The Cun (Inch) and Guan (Bar) pulses are faint, while the Chi (Cubit) position is slightly tight. External symptoms include numbness of the body, resembling Wind-Bi (Wind Obstruction).
Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus) (each 3 liang), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) (6 liang), Dazao (Jujubae Fructus) (12 pieces).
Take the above five herbs. Add six sheng of water, decoct to obtain two sheng. Take seven ge warm, three times a day.
Song verse: Blood Bi presents with body numbness like wind obstruction; use Guizhi 3 liang and Shaoyao equal amount. Twelve Dazao and six Shengjiang suffice; once Yang Qi flows freely, efficacy becomes miraculous.
Yuanni's commentary: The *Neijing* states that when pathogenic factors enter the Yin aspect, Bi syndrome forms. However, pathogens in the blood enter due to injury of Yang Qi, and they must exit only after Yang Qi is unblocked.
For cases with slow pulse, adding Huangqi strengthens the formula. Regulating blood within the Qi aspect is particularly effective. Doubling the dosage of Shengjiang to disseminate Qi ensures that when Qi moves, blood does not stagnate, and Bi is eliminated. This follows the principle of husband and wife following each other.
Treats individuals prone to seminal emission, presenting with tension and urgency in the lower abdomen, coldness at the glans penis, dizziness, and hair loss. The pulse is extremely deficient, knotted (Kou), or slow, accompanied by diarrhea with undigested food, blood loss, and seminal emission. For men with seminal emission and women with nocturnal emissions involving sexual dreams, this decoction is indicated.
Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) (each 3 liang), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (2 liang), Dazao (Jujubae Fructus) (12 pieces), Longgu (Fossilia Ossis Mastodi et Scapulae), Muli (Concha Ostreae) (each 3 liang).
Take the above seven herbs. Add seven sheng of water, decoct to obtain three sheng. Divide into three warm doses.
Song verse: Men with seminal emission and women with dream intercourse; salvation lies in balancing Kan and Li (Water and Fire). Add Longgu and Muli to Guizhi Tang; three liang each requires careful consideration.
Zhang Zhongjing (referred to as 'Short Drama' likely a textual corruption or specific reference style) states: For those who are weak with floating heat and sweating, remove Guizhi and add Baiwei (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma) 1.5 liang and Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) 1 liang, named Erjia Longgu Tang (Double-Added Dragon Bone Decoction).
Xu's commentary: Guizhi Tang, when applied to external syndromes, can resolve the muscle layer and expel pathogenic factors; when applied to internal disorders, it can tonify deficiency and harmonize Yin and Yang. Adding Longgu and Muli is because seminal emission and dream intercourse are disorders between spirit and essence; without these two, one cannot sufficiently anchor floating and hyperactive Qi.
Yuanni's commentary: Xu Zhongke’s summary that Longgu and Muli "anchor floating hyperactivity" is adequate, but it is reductive to view them merely as astringent herbs, retaining a limited perspective. I... [Text cuts off]
