Chuanjiao (Sichuan Pepper) [Zanthoxyli Pericarpium] (those with closed pores should be used, not those with open pores) is ground into powder and taken with water to achieve a cure. It is even more effective to hold Chuanjiao in the mouth simultaneously.
Appendix: Edema.
For patients suffering from Drum Distension (Gu Zhang, abdominal distension resembling a drum) or Ge Shi (food blockage), after recovery, one must abstain from killing living beings and practice releasing life to prevent recurrence; this is of utmost importance.
If pressing the abdomen with a finger leaves an indentation that does not rise immediately, it is Water Drum (Shui Gu). If the indentation rises immediately upon release, it is Qi Drum (Qi Gu). If the entire body skin is dark black with purple-black spots within the skin, it is Blood Drum (Xue Gu). If the body is extremely hot like fire, it is difficult to treat. If the body exhibits alternating chills and fever similar to malaria, it is difficult to treat. If the four limbs turn black, it is difficult to treat. If there is intestinal distension and the pulse is large indicating impending death, it is difficult to treat. If the lips and mouth are dark, indicating Spleen exhaustion, it is difficult to treat. If the supraclavicular fossa (Quepen) is flat, indicating Heart exhaustion, it is difficult to treat. If the palms of hands and soles of feet are flat, indicating Kidney exhaustion, it is difficult to treat. If the umbilicus everts, indicating Lung exhaustion, it is difficult to treat. If the back is flat, indicating Liver exhaustion, it is difficult to treat. If green veins appear on the body after diarrhea, it is difficult to treat. If there is slippery incontinence of stool, it is difficult to treat. If there are broken skins all over the body, it is difficult to treat. If edema starts in the four limbs and then spreads to the abdomen, it is difficult to treat. If edema starts in the abdomen and then spreads to the four limbs, it is easy to treat.
The condition where pressing the abdomen leaves an indentation that does not rise is Water Drum. Take one male pig stomach (cleaned thoroughly of internal impurities), half a strip of old loofah fiber, ten earth dogs (also known as mole crickets, *Gryllotalpa*), add water, [decoct], add Chi Fuling (Red Poria) and Yuanhua (Kansui Root), [decoct until reduced].
Patients whose urination is unobstructed can also be treated. Take four large river snails (shelled), five garlic cloves (peeled), and two qian of Cheqianzi (Plantago Seed), grind them into powder, form into a cake, apply to the center of the umbilicus, and secure with a belt. Water will exit through urination, and the swelling will gradually subside. One must avoid eating river snails for life.
Another prescription: Shanglu root (Phytolaccae Radix) and scallion white (Cong Bai), crushed and stuffed into the umbilicus. Once urination becomes smooth, the swelling will naturally disappear.
Another prescription: Gansui powder (Radix Euphorbiae Pekinensis), mixed with water, applied around the abdomen. Separately decoct Sheng Gancao (Raw Licorice Root) soup and take it orally; the swelling will naturally disappear.
Two jin of crucian carp and three jin of salt are wrapped tightly together with yellow mud. Roast over white charcoal fire for a week (or specific duration), remove the mud, and grind the fish and salt together finely. Use this salt for cooking; after finishing this salt, consume raw salt again. This ensures the solidity of meridians throughout the body and prevents recurrence forever.
