Zhu You: After the initial recovery from a warm disease (Wenbing), due to imprudent diet, damp-heat stagnated and obstructed the Middle Jiao. The Spleen of Taiyin lost its ability to transport and transform, and the Stomach of Yangming lost its function of descending and unblocking. This resulted in distension and fullness in the epigastrium and abdomen, loss of appetite, generalized jaundice (Huangdan), scanty dark red urine resembling soy sauce, a thin greasy yellow tongue coating, and a soggy, slippery, and rapid pulse. Jaundice has already formed; it is not easy to recover quickly. A modified formula combining Yinchen Siling San (Inula and Four-Ingredient Poria Decoction) and Pingwei San (Calm the Stomach Powder) is prescribed.
Xiyinchen (Western Inulae Radix, 1.5 qian) Lianpi Ling (Poria with Skin, 4 qian) Zhuling (Polyporus, 2 qian) Chenguangpi (Aged Tangerine Peel, 1 qian) Heishanzhi (Black Gardenia Fruit, 2 qian) Fuzexie (Alisma Rhizome, 1.5 qian)

Chen Zuo: Following Hou Sha (Plague Sore Throat/Scarlet Fever), yin-nourishing herbs were used too early, causing latent warm pathogens to remain unexpressed and dampness to linger in the Mu Yuan (semi-exterior semi-interior region). Attaching internally and manifesting externally, this led to generalized yellowing of the body, yellow sclera, scanty dark urine, fever worsening in the evening, thirst preferring hot drinks, soreness and pain in limbs and joints, and difficulty in movement. The tongue coating was thin, greasy, and yellow; the pulse was soggy and rapid. Warmth was less than dampness, mutually obstructing and unresolved, constituting a lingering condition. Temporarily prescribing to clear and diffuse warmth in the Qi level, and expel dampness from the Mu Yuan, so that warmth dissipates outward and dampness drains downward, which is the proper pathway for disease resolution.
Qingshui Doujuan (Clear Water Bean Sprouts, 8 qian) Rendongteng (Lonicera Japonica Stem, 3 qian) Lianqiao Qiao (Forsythia Fruit Shell, 3 qian) Zexie (Alisma Rhizome, 1.5 qian) Xiyinchen (Western Inulae Radix, 1.5 qian) Heishanzhi (Black Gardenia Fruit, 2 qian)

Kong Zuo: Constitutionally deficient in yin, dampness transformed into heat, steaming and stifling, merging with turbid qi in the Stomach. This resulted in generalized jaundice, yellow eyes, dark urine, limb fatigue, reduced appetite, and a pale-red tongue. Treated according to the pattern of Yang Jaundice.
Xiyinchen (Western Inulae Radix, 2.5 qian) Chi Zhuling (Red Poria and Polyporus, each 3 qian) Tongcao (Tetrapanacis Medulla, 0.8 fen) Dongguapi (Winter Melon Peel, 4 qian) Heishanzhi (Black Gardenia Fruit, 2 qian) Zexie (Alisma Rhizome, 1.5 qian)

Han Nu: An unmarried girl had amenorrhea for four months. Liver failed to soothe and drain; old blood stasis obstructed internally; dampness from food and water lingered. The Taiyin Spleen, Yangming Stomach, and Jueyin Liver meridians were affected. Initially, lower abdominal pain occurred, followed by epigastric distension, reduced appetite, yellow eyes, dark urine, yellow skin, and black stools. Currently presenting as Jaundice, prolonged duration may lead to Blood Distension (abdominal ascites with stasis). Urgently prescribing to strengthen Spleen and expel dampness, remove stasis and unblock menstruation.
Chenguangpi (Aged Tangerine Peel, 1 qian) Chi Zhuling (Red Poria and Polyporus, each 3 qian) Du Honghua (Safflower, 0.8 fen) Zhi Cangzhu (Processed Atractylodis Rhizoma, 1 qian) Dafupi (Arecae Pericarpium, 2 qian) Taoren Ni (Peach Kernel Paste, wrapped, 1.5 qian) Zhi Chuanpu (Processed Magnolia Bark, 1 qian) Fuzexie (Alisma Rhizome, 1.5 qian) Yanhusuo (Corydalis Rhizome, 1 qian) Xiyinchen (Western Inulae Radix, 2.5 qian)

Gao Zuo: Body heat for over ten days, lighter in morning, heavier in evening, night-time dream talk resembling delirium, dull spirit, generalized yellow complexion, yellow eyes, dark urine, dry mouth desiring drink, dry grey-greasy tongue coating, left wiry-rapid and right soggy-rapid pulse. Latent pathogenic damp-heat lingered in the Mu Yuan, resembling soy sauce color. Damp-heat mixed with phlegm easily confused the clear orifices; Clear Yang energy was lost. Accompanied by frequent hiccups, twitching of hands and feet, hidden consumption of Yin fluids, rising of Chong Qi, and stirring of internal wind. Wet-warmth and Jaundice harmed each other; fear of convulsions and syncope! Urgently prescribing to generate fluids without cloying, resolve dampness without drying, clear and diffuse with light permeation, unblock the Triple Burner, preventing pathogen invasion of Jueyin, which is the key strategy.
Tianhuafen (Trichosanthis Radix, 3 qian) Zhu Fushen (Poria with Cinnabar, 3 qian) Xian Shichangpu (Fresh Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma, 1 qian) Heishanzhi (Black Gardenia Fruit, 2 qian) Yiysan (Yi Yuan Powder, wrapped, 3 qian) Shidi (Persimmon Calyx, 10 pieces)

Chu Zuo: Plowing in southern fields, exposed to scorching sun, then caught in rain, compounded by food stagnation. Dampness adhered externally, heat郁 (stagnated) internally. Resulted in generalized jaundice, yellow eyes, dark urine, aversion to cold and fever, bone ache, chest tightness, epigastric distension, thick greasy tongue coating covering the whole tongue, floating-tight and rapid pulse. Urgently imitating the intent of Mahlian Lianqiao Chidou Tang (Ephedra, Forsythia, and Adzuki Bean Decoction).
Jing Mahuang (Clean Ephedrae Herba, 0.4 fen) Chi Fuling (Red Poria, 3 qian) Liushenqu (Six Divine Qu, 3 qian) Lianqiao Qiao (Forsythia Fruit Shell, 3 qian) Zhishi Tan (Charred Immature Bitter Orange, 1 qian) Fuzexie (Alisma Rhizome, 1.5 qian)
Dan Douchi (Lightly Fermented Soybean, 3 qian) Ku Jiegeng (Bitter Platycodon Root, 1 qian) Chao Guyamai (Fried Rice and Malt Sprouts, each 3 qian) Xiyinchen (Western Inulae Radix, 1.5 qian) Du Chidou (Vigna Angularis Seed, 1 liang)
Wei Zuo: Irregular eating and overwork injured both Spleen and Stomach. Dampness generated internally, accumulating in the Mu Yuan. Resulted in yellow skin, yellow eyes, dark urine, limb fatigue, reduced appetite, soggy pulse, and yellow tongue coating. As the proverb says, "Exhaustion Jaundice" belongs to this category. Having persisted for two years, quick effect is unlikely. Imitating Buli Wan (Strength-Supplementing Pill), treating slowly.
Chao Quan Danggui (Fried Whole Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 1 liang) Yun Fuling (Cloud Poria, 1.4 liang) Chao Xiqinjiao (Fried Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix, 1 liang) Da Sharen (Large Amomi Fructus, 5 qian) Zi Danshen (Purple Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang) Yanshui Chao Huainiuxi (Salt-water fried Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix, 1 liang) Chao Liushenqu (Fried Six Divine Qu, 1.4 liang) Chao Chishao (Fried Red Peony Root, 1 liang) Mixiantan Shui Jin Zhi Cangzhu (Processed Atractylodis Rhizoma soaked in rice water, 8 qian) Yanshui Nong Chuzhong (Salt-water fried Eucommiae Cortex, 1 liang)

All herbs ground into fine powder. Use large black dates (6 liang), cooked, peeled, pitted, mashed with herb powder into pills, dried. Take 3 qian every morning with boiled water.
Mai Zuo: Habitual alcohol consumption generates dampness; damp stagnation generates heat. Heat in Yangming, dampness in Taiyin, steaming and stifling, resembling soy sauce color. Yellow face and eyes, turning black if severe, heartburn, taste sensation distorted (sweet food tastes sour/spicy), scanty dark urine, dry mouth and thirst. This is Wine Jaundice (Jiu Dan). Temporarily prescribing to clear Yangming stagnant heat, diffuse Taiyin accumulated dampness, allowing heat to resolve via skin surface and dampness to exit via urination.
Fen Gegen (Kudzu Root, 2 qian) Fei Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, 1.5 qian) Chi Fuling (Red Poria, 3 qian) Xiyinchen (Western Inulae Radix, 3 qian) Heishanzhi (Black Gardenia Fruit, 2 qian) Chenpi (Tangerine Peel, 1 qian)

Diao Zuo: Onset due to depression; Liver disease transmitted to Spleen. Spleen failed to transport and transform; dampness generated internally, merging with Stomach turbidity, flowing down to Bladder. Bladder is the Fu organ of Taiyang, governing the exterior of the body. Unresolved damp-turbidity in Bladder caused generalized jaundice, dark urine, indigestion, and dizziness. This is Grain Jaundice (Gu Dan). Treating disease requires addressing the root: primarily soothing Liver and resolving depression, assisting with harmonizing Middle and promoting diuresis.

Ren You: Amenorrhea for three months, bladder urgency, lower abdominal fullness, generalized jaundice, black forehead, hot soles, black stools, alternating constipation and diarrhea, poor appetite, mental fatigue, fine-choppy pulse. Caused by cold invading the Blood Chamber, old stasis failing to move, accumulating between Bladder and lower abdomen. This is a severe case of Female Labor Jaundice (Nulao Dan), not easy to cure quickly. Ancient formula uses Xiaoshi Fanshi San (Nitro-Stone and Alum Stone Powder); now imitating its intent but not using those drugs.
Danggui Wei (Angelicae Sinensis Radix Tail, 2 qian) Yun Fuling (Cloud Poria, 3 qian) Zang Honghua (Saffron, 0.8 fen) Daike Sharen (Amomi Fructus with shell, crushed, 0.8 fen) Jing Chishao (Beijing Red Peony Root, 2 qian) Taoren Ni (Peach Kernel Paste, wrapped, 1.5 qian) Rouguixin (Cinnamon Twig Heart, 0.3 fen) Xiyinchen (Western Inulae Radix, 1.5 qian) Zi Danshen (Purple Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 2 qian) Qingning Wan (Green Calming Pill, wrapped and decocted, 2.5 qian)
Yanhusuo (Corydalis Rhizome, 1 qian) Xuyutan (Hair Charcoal, wrapped, 1 qian) Zexie (Alisma Rhizome, 1.5 qian)
Zhou Zuo: Excessive worry injured Spleen; sexual excess injured Kidney. Spleen and Kidney both deficient; Liver Wood overacts. Dampness from food/water generated internally, transforming into cold. Yang fails to circulate; Gallbladder fluid obstructed by dampness, soaking Spleen, infiltrating muscles, overflowing skin. Resulted in generalized jaundice, dark face, pale yellow urine, grey-black stools, poor appetite, nausea, fatigue, thin greasy coating, deep-fine pulse. Yang deficiency leads to Yin excess; Qi stagnation leads to Blood stasis. Stasis-damp flows to Large Intestine, hence grey-black difficult stools. This is a severe Yin Jaundice (Yin Dan), extremely lingering. Prescribing Yinchen Shu Fu Tang (Inula, Atractylodes, and Prepared Aconite Decoction) with additions. Primary goal: assist Yang and transport Spleen; secondary: resolve dampness and remove stasis. Let the Sun shine brightly (Yang abundance) so Yin turbidity disperses. Is this correct? Seeking advice from experts.

Jin Jun: Irritability and anxiety injured Heart and Spleen. Fire function not disseminated; Spleen Yang trapped. Food ingested by Stomach fails to produce essence/nutrients, instead transforming into damp-turbidity. Attaching to Mu Yuan, overflowing skin. Resulted in generalized jaundice, grey-dark color, poor appetite, fatigue, loose white-pasty stools. Onset mid-summer, by post-autumn umbilical/abdominal distension, leg/foot numb swelling, difficulty walking. Earth virtue declining, Liver Wood overacting. Turbid Yin condensing, water-damp flowing down. Where Yang energy does not reach, there water-damp condenses. Condition spreading, hard to treat. Humble opinion: likely incompetent. Drafting to assist Yang, drive Yin, transport Spleen, expel dampness. Whether appropriate, seeking correction.
