[Outline of Ye Ge (Dysphagia and Food Impaction)] When the Stomach Qi descends, it can keep the upper Jiao (Upper Burner) empty; when the Spleen Qi ascends, the lower orifices naturally become unobstructed. If the meridians reverse and sink, leading to the failure of True Yang, then the functions of intake and excretion will lose their efficacy, and the disease arises in the Middle Jiao (Middle Burner).
Ling Gui Ban Xia Tang (Poria, Cinnamon Twig, and Pinellia Decoction)
(Attached Syndrome Note) Ze Xie (Alisma Rhizome), Ban Xia (Pinellia Tuber), Fu Ling (Poria), and Gan Cao (Licorice Root) combined with Gan Jiang (Dried Ginger) and Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger), assisted by Gui Zhi (Cinnamon Twig) and Bai Shao (White Peony Root), yield particularly good results. If Ye Ge is accompanied by other syndromes, carefully consulting the original formula texts will provide detailed methods.
[Outline of Fan Wei (Regurgitation/Reverse Flow of Stomach)] The lower orifices are unexpectedly closed and cannot open; morning meals vomited in the evening are truly lamentable. This is due to Spleen deficiency failing to transport, not merely a Stomach issue; treatment methods should especially employ flexible adaptation.
Da Ban Xia Tang (Large Pinellia Decoction)
(Attached Syndrome Note) Vomiting belongs to Spleen deficiency with a deep-seated condition; treatment should utilize Ban Xia (Pinellia Tuber) together with Ren Shen (Ginseng Root). Adding Bai Mi (White Honey) provides moistening functions, dispelling dampness, harmonizing the Middle Jiao, and benefiting Yin.
Wu Zhu Yu Syndrome
(Formula see Shang Han Lun) Gastric regurgitation may have cold in the chest area; morning food vomited in the evening prevents peace. To warm the middle and descend rebellion, what medicine is suitable? Using Wu Zhu Yu Tang (Evodia Decoction) for treatment is not difficult.
[Outline of Bu Neng Shi (Inability to Eat)] When dryness and dampness are balanced, the Spleen and Stomach open; if one prevails excessively, disaster ensues. Deficiency-cold and deficiency-heat must still be distinguished; harmonizing Yin and Yang relies on skilled practitioners.
Xiao Shi Wan (Digestive Pill)
(Attached Syndrome Note) Cold deficiency in the Stomach prevents eating; the treatment method is particularly suitable for Xiao Shi Wan. Shen Qu (Medicated Leaven), Wu Mei (Mume Fruit), and Mai Ya (Barley Sprout) combined, with Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger) and Fu Ling (Poria) used together, constitute a miraculous pill.
Zi Sheng Wan (Nourishing Life Pill)
(Attached Syndrome Note) Clearing heat, tonifying deficiency, and frequently promoting appetite: Mu Xiang (Aucklandia Root), Fu Ling (Poria), Shan Zha (Hawthorn Fruit), and Shen Qu (Medicated Leaven) combined with Lian Zi (Lotus Seed) and Chen Pi (Tangerine Peel); adding Qian Shi (Euryale Seed), Dou Lei (Legumes), and Shan Yao (Dioscorea Rhizome), along with Bai Kou Ren (Amomum Cardamomum Seed), Ren Shen (Ginseng Root), and Yi Yi Ren (Coix Seed).
[Outline of Gu Lao (Grain Labor/Fatigue after Eating)] Inability to eat while the abdomen feels empty and hungry; Grain Qi frequently generates after meals. Profound lethargy leads to a preference for lying down; limbs are vexed and heavy, making the condition more critical.
Chen Xiang Tang (Aquilaria Wood Decoction)
(Attached Syndrome Note) For Gu Lao with inability to eat, which formula to use? A method combining attack and tonification is good: Xing Ren (Apricot Seed), Ban Xia (Pinellia Tuber), Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger), and Chen Pi (Tangerine Peel) together with Zhi Shi (Immature Bitter Orange), Ren Shen (Ginseng Root), Fu Ling (Poria), Bai Zhu (Atractylodes Rhizome), Gan Cao (Licorice Root), and Chen Xiang (Aquilaria Wood).
Jiao Jiang Da Mai Tang (Pepper, Ginger, and Barley Malt Decoction)
(Attached Syndrome Note) Gu Lao with inability to eat is a pitiable condition; the decoction uses Jiao (Sichuan Pepper), Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger), and Da Mai Ya (Barley Malt). Digesting food and warming the middle enters subtlety truly; like a cup of sweet dew, its efficacy is praised.
[Outline of Ou Tu, Yue, E Ni (Vomiting, Hiccups, and Belching)] These four types of bodily diseases belong to the Yangming channel; dietary intake cannot be retained, and syndromes present differently. Stomach Qi does not descend but rebels upward; Heat, Cold, Deficiency, and Excess must be clearly distinguished.
Wu Zhu Yu Syndrome
(Formula see Shang Han Lun) The disease belongs to Stomach deficiency compounded with cold; slight fright or eating grain causes vomiting that is hard to calm. Limbs are cold and reversed with much irritability; using Wu Zhu Yu Tang (Evodia Decoction) is a miraculous pill.
Fu Ling Ze Xie Tang (Poria and Alisma Decoction)
(Attached Syndrome Note) After vomiting, thirst arises desiring drinks; furthermore, Stomach excess-heat is unbearable. Gui Zhi (Cinnamon Twig), Fu Ling (Poria), Bai Zhu (Atractylodes Rhizome), Ze Xie (Alisma Rhizome), Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger), and Gan Cao (Licorice Root) are used; this is a miraculous formula for driving out water pathology.
Si Ni Syndrome
(Formula see Shang Han Lun) Urination can flow freely, yet the pulse presents as weak; furthermore, vomiting and rebellion occur intermittently. Limbs show Jue (cold reversal) with slight body heat; distinguishing Cold Excess blocking Yang requires precision.
Da Huang Gan Cao Tang (Rhubarb and Licorice Decoction)
(Attached Syndrome Note) After eating, vomiting occurs uncontrollably; this is due to Damp-Heat pathogenic factors invading the Stomach. Da Huang (Rhubarb Root) sweeps away filth, Gan Cao (Licorice Root) cultivates Earth; the profound meaning lies in combining attack and tonification.
Xiao Ban Xia Tang (Small Pinellia Decoction)
(Attached Syndrome Note)
Xiao Ban Xia Jia Fu Ling Tang (Small Pinellia Decoction plus Poria)
(Attached Syndrome Note) Cold pathogen and Stomach excess make the condition true; eating grain causes frequent desire to vomit. Ban Xia (Pinellia Tuber) descends Chong Qi, Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger) stops vomiting; adding Fu Ling (Poria) removes dampness, efficacy is like spirit.
Xiao Chai Hu Syndrome
(Formula see Shang Han Lun) How to drive away Wood pathogen overcoming Earth? Alternating chills and fever are indeed worrisome. Fullness, palpitations, and hypochondriac pain arise; the miraculous formula is suitable to use Xiao Chai Hu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction).
Ban Xia Xie Xin Syndrome
(Formula see Shang Han Lun) The patient vomits with abdominal and intestinal rumbling; epigastric region has palpitations and fullness/stiffness. Half-excess half-deficiency with cold returning to heat; the method should suit both warming-tonification and clearing-draining.
Ju Pi Zhu Ru Tang (Tangerine Peel and Bamboo Shavings Decoction)
(Attached Syndrome Note) Mouth has hiccups with taste, vomiting is hard to control; suitable to use Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger), Ju Pi (Tangerine Peel), and Ren Shen (Ginseng Root). Da Zao (Jujube Fruit), Zhu Ru (Bamboo Shavings), and Gan Cao (Licorice Root) are added; half-attack half-tonification principle is deeper.
Dai Zhe Xuan Fu Hua Syndrome
(Formula see Shang Han Lun) When differentiation encounters E Ni (hiccups/belching), how to treat based on deficiency and excess? Treatment should use Dai Zhe Shi (Hematite) plus Xuan Fu Hua (Inula Flower); combining attack and tonification is the most wondrous method.
Er Chen Tang Modified Formula
When Ou Tu (vomiting), Yue (hiccups), and E Ni (belching) occur together, the modification of Er Chen Tang (Two-Aged Decoction) is most refined. Regularly consult the original book during study, so that during clinical practice, one can remember clearly.
