The above ingredients are processed into coarse granules. Each dose consists of four qian, with two jujubes, decocted together in water.
The above four formulas all use Fulonggan (Zao Xin Tu, Hearth Soil), likely because its dry nature can remove dampness. The first two formulas are used to clear damp-heat, while the latter two are used to clear cold-dampness. According to records, Fulonggan is a holy medicine for stopping bleeding. Ancients treated Binglou (uterine bleeding) using herbs like Xuanjinhua (Inula Flower) and Banxia (Pinellia Rhizome). Stopping Binglou by treating wet-phlegm in the diaphragm follows this same principle.
[《Tai Ping Hui Min He Ji Ju Fang》] Bingzhong (sudden heavy uterine bleeding) with continuous lower bleeding and lower abdominal pain.
Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, one liang, stir-fried until slightly yellow) Baye (Cacumen Platycladi, six liang, lightly stir-fried. Zhu Danxi said: Cacenmen Platycladi has a drying nature.)
Add one sheng of water, decoct to obtain six ge of liquid, add five ge of wine, and continue decocting to obtain seven ge of liquid. Take half of this amount on an empty stomach as one dose, divided into two doses. Another method is to grind the herbs into fine powder and take two qian mixed with wine. Another formula adds equal parts of Lujiaojiao (Colla Cornus Asini) and takes two qian mixed with wine, treating leukorrhea and umbilical/abdominal pain.
[Worldly Physicians] Muli San (Oyster Shell Powder) treats Menstruation that does not stop, when other medicines fail.
Muli (Concha Ostreae) is calcined over fire, ground into fine powder, mixed with vinegar to form pills, then placed back in fire until red-hot. After cooling, grind into fine powder to remove "fire toxicity". Then mix with mugwort powder prepared with vinegar, boil into a paste, and combine with oyster shell powder to make pills the size of tung tree seeds.
Each dose is fifty pills, taken down with vinegar-mugwort soup.
[《Huangdi Neijing Suwen》] Yin deficiency with vigorous Yang pulse is called Binglou (Uterine Bleeding). (From the chapter "Yin Yang Bie Lun")
[Li Dongyuan] Liangxue Dihuang Tang (Cool Blood Rehmannia Decoction) treats women's blood Bing. This is due to Kidney Water Yin deficiency, failing to control the Ministerial Fire in the Bao Luo (uterine network), causing blood to rush and resulting in Bing.
Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Recens, half liang) Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, three fen) Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex, two fen) Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, one fen) Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix) Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma) Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma, each two fen)
Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix, three fen) Gaoben (Ligustici Wallichii Rhizoma et Radix, two fen) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, one fen) Honghua (Carthami Flos, a little) Guishen (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, five fen) Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma, one fen) Jingjisui (Schizonepetae Spica)
Manjingzi (Vernoniae Semen, one fen)
Chop the herbs finely, treat as one dose. Add three large zhan of water, decoct to one zhan, remove dregs, and take slightly warm on an empty stomach. The Xuehai (Sea of Blood) acupoint of the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian is located two cun medial to the white flesh margin, above the inner aspect of the patella. It treats women's Louxia (leukorrhea with blood), irregular menstruation, Qi reversal with abdominal distension, where the pulse is slow; moxa three zhuang. The Yinggu acupoint of the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian is located behind the medial condyle of the knee, under the large tendon and above the small tendon, palpable upon pressure, taken with flexed knee. It treats knee pain like a awl, inability to flex or extend, tongue protrusion with salivation, irritability and Qi reversal, difficult urination, sudden pulling pain in the lower abdomen radiating to the genitals, pain in the inner thigh, continuous Louxia in women, abdominal fullness with dyspnea, urine yellow like gu poison, and a sensation of pregnancy in women; moxa three zhuang.
[《Tai Ping Hui Min He Ji Ju Fang》] Xiaoji Tang (Small Thistle Decoction) treats Binglou that does not stop, with bright blood color like water, feeling irritable when warmed. This is Yang damaged by Yin, causing lower bleeding; one should tonify Yin.
A rapid and small pulse is favorable; a large pulse is unfavorable.
Xiaoji Jingye (Herba Siegesbeckiae, extract juice, one zhan) Shengdihuangzhi (Jus Rehmanniae Recens, one zhan) Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, half liang, chopped)
Mix the three items with one zhan of water, decoct to half volume, remove dregs, and take warm.
Chuanxiong Jiu (Ligusticum Wine) treats Bingzhong bleeding, day and night without stopping, unresponsive to medical treatment.
Chuanxiong (Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong, one liang) Shengdihuangzhi (Jus Rehmanniae Recens, one zhan)
Use five zhan of wine, boil Chuanxiong until reduced to one zhan, remove dregs, add Rehmannia juice, boil for two or three boils, divide into three doses.
Treats continuous bleeding from Binglou.
Daji Gen (Radix Siegesbeckiae) and Xiaoji Gen (Radix Siegesbeckiae) (five liang) Baimaogen (Radix Imperatae, three liang)
Finely chop the two ingredients, use five sheng of wine, boil to obtain four sheng, remove dregs, divide into four doses.
[Zhu Danxi] Louxia (dribbling bleeding) is caused by heat combined with deficiency; use Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) added with Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma).
[Zhang Yun] Jinhua San (Golden Flower Powder) treats Heat in the Blood Chamber (Zi Gong/Uterus), causing continuous Bing, ineffective with warm medicines.
Yanhusuo (Corydalis Rhizoma) Qumaisui (Spica Lygodii) Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis) Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) Mudanpi (Cortex Moutan, each one liang) Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, two liang) Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus, separately ground to powder, seven qian half)
Puhuang (Pollinis Typhae, half liang) Weilingxian (Radix Saposhnikoviae, seven qian half)
Grind into fine powder. Each dose is three qian, with one and a half zhan of water, taken warm on an empty stomach, twice daily.
[《Tai Ping Hui Min He Ji Ju Fang》] Treats Bingzhong lower bleeding. Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) in any amount, ground to fine powder. Each dose is one qian. Heat a scale weight until red-hot, throw it into wine to make it boil, then use this wine to mix and take the powder. (Xu Xueshi said: Treating Bingzhong mostly uses hemostatic and blood-tonifying medicines. This is Yang overcoming Yin, as previously described as heaven's heat and earth's warmth causing menstrual water to boil over. Jinhua San is also excellent.)
[Zhu Danxi] Excessive menstruation that cannot be stopped: use Sanbu Wan (Three Tonics Pill) added with Shagen (Radix Cyathulae), Guiban (Carapax et Plastrum Testudinis), and Jinmaogouji (Rhizoma Cibotii). (Sanbu refers to Huangqin, Huanglian, and Huangbai.)
[Zhang Zihe] The mother of Official Meng, over fifty years old, had suffered from blood Bing for one year. Everyone used Zeluan Wan (Angelicae Dahuricae Pill), Heishen San (Black Divine Powder), Bao'an Wan (Security Pill), and Baiwei San (Baical Skullcap Powder), but tonification was ineffective. Dairen (Zhang Zihe's pseudonym) saw her and said: Tian Gui (menstrual essence) has ended; she should not be bleeding. It is likely that blood flows and scatters due to heat, not cold. Women's blood Bing is often caused by great sorrow and crying. Extreme sorrow causes the lung lobes to expand and the Heart Tie (pericardium connection) to tighten, leading to uncontrollable downward bleeding. The *Neijing* says: Yin deficiency with vigorous Yang pulse is called Bing. Insufficient Yin pulse, excess Yang pulse, rapid pulse indicates internal Bing, blood flows down. The world treats it as deficiency and exhaustion, none knowing it is wrong. One can take a large dose. The large dose is Huanglian Jiedu Tang (Coptis Decoction for Resolving Toxins). Next, use Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma) two liang stir-fried, Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) two liang baked, Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) two liang baked. Grind these three into fine powder, mix with water and take. Also take Binglang Wan (Areca Seed Pill); within ten days, she was safe.
[Li Dongyuan] Dingxiang Jiao Ai Tang (Clove and Colla Corii Asini Decoction) treats continuous Binglou. This is likely due to insufficient Heart Qi, obtained from labor and irregular diet. After some time, the pulse at both Chi positions is wiry, tight, and surging, but weak upon pressure. The patient feels ice-cold below the navel, seeking thick clothes and quilts to ward off cold. Although there is much white leukorrhea, occasionally watery discharge like a leaking roof occurs. When bleeding, there is not much fresh blood. The Right Chi pulse is sometimes slightly surging. For the sudden heavy flow of "leaking roof" type blood, the wiry-tight pulse indicates much cold, while the occasional surging pulse indicates little heat. Combined, the wiry-tight pulse represents excessive Northern Cold Water, while the occasional surging pulse represents the Fire of the Mingmen (Gate of Life) and Bao Luo. More black matter than red matter matches the appearance of leaking roof water.
Chuanxiong (Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong, four fen) Guishen (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, one qian two fen) Sheng Aiye (Folium Artemisiae Argyi, one qian) Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini, six fen, prepared separately and added later) Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, three fen) Shudi (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata, three fen, to drain the surging pulse) Dingxiang (Flos Caryophylli, four fen)
Grind into fine powder, treat as one dose. Add two zhan of water, boil five times, remove dregs, add Ejiao and Aiye, boil again on fire until one large zhan remains. Take hot on an empty stomach after residual food is digested. Three doses show effect.
[《Tai Ping Hui Min He Ji Ju Fang》] Treats blood Bing.
Shuai Ai (Prepared Folium Artemisiae Argyi, size of a chicken egg) Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini, half liang) Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, one qian)
Cut into coarse pieces. Use five zhan of water, first decoct Aiye and Jiang until two and a half zhan remain. Add Ejiao, let it become slightly warm, divide into two doses, take on an empty stomach.
Another formula treats Bingzhong that does not stop. Dingxiang (Flos Caryophylli) two liang ground to fine powder. Use three sheng of wine, boil to obtain one sheng, take in one dose on an empty stomach. *Bi Xiao Fang* uses one hundred cloves, decocted in wine. Another formula: Yizhi (Alpiniae Oxymatanga Fructus) stir-fried and ground to powder, taken with salt water and rice drink.
[Worldly Physicians] Xiangfan San (Cyperi and Alum Powder) treats blood Bing.
Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma) in any amount. Soak overnight in very sour vinegar, stir-fry until charred but retaining medicinal property. For every one liang of Xiangfu ash, add two qian of Baifan (Alumen) powder. Take with rice drink on an empty stomach; effect is miraculous.
One method uses Heluye (Nelumbinis Folium) soup to mix; even more wonderful.
[《Tai Ping Hui Min He Ji Ju Fang》] Use Xiangfu zi (Cyperi Rhizoma) removing hairs, stir-fry until charred black retaining property, grind to fine powder. Mix with very hot wine, take two qian, take when warm. Not exceeding two doses will cure immediately. If severe coma, use three qian bi. Even for "Blood Mountain Bing" (massive hemorrhage), it can resolve; rice drink mixing is also acceptable. Xu Xueshi said: For treating continuous lower bleeding or five-color Binglou, Xiangfu zi is a fairy medicine for women.
[Worldly Physicians] Women's blood Bing not stopping. Burn Binglang (Arecae Semen) to ash retaining property, grind to powder, take with warm wine; very wonderful.
[《Tai Ping Hui Min He Ji Ju Fang》] Wulingzhi San (Trogopteri Dung Powder) treats women's Blood Mountain Bing, when various medicines fail.
Wulingzhi (Faeces Trogopterori) stir-fry until smoke ceases, grind to powder. Each dose is one qian, taken with warm wine.
Another method: each dose three qian, decoct with equal parts water, wine, and Tongbian (child's urine), named Choudao San (Knife-Drawing Powder).
Hupo San (Amber Powder) treats sudden heavy bleeding from Bing.
Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra) Xiangfu zi (Cyperi Rhizoma) Kuheye (Dry Nelumbinis Folium) Nanzi Fa (Capillus Virilis, washed with Gleditsiae Sinensis water) Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis) Zonglv (Palmae Fructus, stir-fried charred retaining property) Wushamao (Silk Cap, specifically lacquered gauze headgear, taken because Yang Qi emerges first)
Equal parts. Except for Zonglv, chop the rest into coarse slices. Burn on new tile until black ash, retain three parts of property, grind to fine powder. Each dose is five qian, taken on empty stomach with Tongbian (child's urine). If the person walks ten li, take another dose. Seven or eight doses will stop bleeding. If postpartum blood loss is excessive, add a little Rice Vinegar, Jingmo (Chinese Ink), and Shexiang (Moschus). Another method: first decoct Wuji San (Five Accumulations Powder) with vinegar, take one or two doses, then take Wulingzhi San.
Treating continuous menstrual blood:
Women's menstrual blood drips continuously,
Burn old lotus pods to ash.
Mix one cup of hot wine with eight characters [of ash],
Naturally peaceful and happy, no doubt.
[《Yanyi》] Huangniujiao Jian (Tip of Buffalo Horn) burn to black ash, slightly retaining property. Treats women's blood Bing, blood in stool, and cold dysentery/white dysentery.
[《Tai Ping Hui Min He Ji Ju Fang》] Treats continuous Louxia. Lu jiao (Cornu Cervi Pantotrichum) burn to ash, finely grind. Take two qian with warm wine before meals.
Another formula: Taoren (Persicae Semen) burn to ash, grind fine. Take two qian with warm wine before meals. Another formula: Luannian (Hair) wash clean with Gleditsiae Sinensis water, burn to fine powder. Take two qian with warm wine on empty stomach.
[Worldly Physicians] Treats long-term chronic Bing. Xiakucao (Prunellae Spica) burn retaining property, grind to powder. Take on empty stomach with rice drink. This uses ash, different from using the herb previously.
[《Tai Ping Hui Min He Ji Ju Fang》] Jingjie San (Schizonepeta Powder) treats women's Bingzhong not stopping.
Use good sesame oil to light a lamp, add many wicks, burn Jingjie (Schizonepetae Spica) on top until charred. Grind to fine powder. Each dose is three qian, taken with Tongbian (child's urine).
[《Jian Yi Fang》] Treats women's Louxia blood non-stop. Huaihua E (Moth of Sophora Flower) in any amount, burn to ash, finely grind. Take two qian bi with warm wine before meals.
[《Chan Bao》] Treats Bingzhong not stopping, regardless of how long ago it started. Use Huai'er (Auricularia Auricula-Judae growing on槐树) burn to ash, grind to powder. Take with wine, one fang cun bi.
[《Tai Ping Hui Min He Ji Ju Fang》] Shenying San (Divine Response Powder) treats continuous blood Bing.
Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus) in any amount, stir-fry until extremely charred retaining property, grind to powder. Each dose is one or two qian, taken with rice drink.
Rusheng San (Like Sage Powder) treats Blood Mountain Bing.
Zonglv (Palmae Fructus) Wumei (Fructus Mume) (each one liang) Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, one liang five qian, all burned retaining property)
Grind to fine powder. Each dose is two qian, taken with Wumei wine, on empty stomach before eating. Long-standing illness, not exceeding three doses will cure.
Repeatedly effective formula for blood Bing.
Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis) Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) Zonglv (Palmae Fructus) (equal parts)
Each ingredient burned retaining property, ground to fine powder. Mix with vinegar. Use red chopsticks with nodes, stir left forty-nine turns. Take before eating.
Another formula: Use Zonglv (Palmae Fructus) and Baifan (Alumen), burn retaining property, grind to powder. Take two qian with wine.
Treats sudden massive Bing bleeding. Baicaoshuang (Carbonis Herbae) two qian, mix with Gou danzhi (Canis Gallus Bile). Divide into two doses, take with Danggui wine.
Another formula: Jingmo (Chinese Ink) ground to powder two qian bi, mixed with burned Lufengfang (Nidus Vespae) powder. Take three finger-pinches with wine.
[Worldly Physicians] Treats blood Bing. Use Hulu (Calabash) removing seeds and pulp, Jingjisui (Schizonepetae Spica) burn retaining property. Take with drinking water.
The above twenty-one formulas are all medicines burned to black ash. The Classic says: Northern color is black, entering to connect with the Kidney. These are all medicines connecting to the Kidney Meridian. Blood is the color of the Heart. Blood stops when seeing black because Kidney Water can control Heart Fire.
Yunqi (Luck/Movement) theory states that blood Bing belongs to Wind-Fire. The Classic says: When Shaoyang governs Heaven's Policy, in the First Qi, wind prevails causing shaking, climate becomes greatly warm, the disease is blood Bing.
[Wang Haizang] Treats uncertain Bing or dribbling for years.
Baifan (Alumen, melted into juice, one liang) Moyao (Resina Myrrhae, one qian) Sha (Realgar, five fen) Huangdan (Minium, five fen)

Master said: White Bing looks like mucus, Red Bing looks like crimson dye, Yellow Bing looks like rotten melon, Blue/Green Bing looks like blue color, Black Bing looks like clotted blood. Cun Kou pulse wiry and large: Wiry indicates reduction, Large indicates hollow. Reduction indicates cold, Hollow indicates deficiency. Cold and deficiency combining is called Ge Pulse (Leather Pulse). In women, this leads to miscarriage and Louxia. (Also seen in various bleeding conditions.)
[Zhang Zhongjing] Cun Kou pulse micro and slow. Micro indicates Wei Qi is sparse; sparse means skin pores are open. Slow indicates Stomach Qi is solid; solid means grain is digested and water transformed. Grain enters the Stomach, Mai Dao (vessel pathways) then move. Water enters the Jing (channels), its blood then forms. Ying (Nutritive) abundance means skin must be sparse/open. San Jiao (Triple Burner) cuts off the Jing meridians, named Blood Bing.
