Non-toxic. It treats various ominous evil spirits and qi, sudden poisoning by foul qi (Zhong'e), acute abdominal pain and distension, fullness and obstruction, wind toxicity, difficult childbirth in women, abortion, and removes films from the eyes and face. Long-term consumption allows one to communicate with immortals. It grows in Zhongtai, as well as in the mountains of Yizhou and Yongzhou. It is harvested at the Spring Equinox; fresh ones are superior.
Original text from *Shennong Bencao Jing*: Shexiang (Musk) tastes pungent and is warm in nature. It primarily repels evil qi, kills ghostly essences and objects, treats Warm Malaria (a type of malaria characterized by alternating chills and fever), Gu poison, and expels three types of parasites.
Long-term consumption
primarily tonifies the Five Zang organs, making the body plump, skin fair, lustrous, and radiant.
[Renru / Human Milk]
Furthermore, the milk of a newborn male infant treats red, painful, and tearing eyes, resolves toxicity from eating beef liver alone, and when taken with a strong decoction of fermented soybeans (Chi), it produces miraculous effects (see *Tang Bencao* commentary citing *Bielu*).
