Commentary states: The Large Intestine is the official of conduction, responsible for transformation and excretion, relying on the nourishment and lubrication of Ying Qi (Nutritive Qi), Wei Qi (Defensive Qi), and body fluids. If pathogenic heat clashes with these factors, causing dryness and depletion of body fluids, fecal matter will accumulate internally and fail to move, resulting in stagnation and obstruction of the intestines and stomach, leading to constipation. This causes lower back pain, abdominal fullness, and inability to eat. As stated in the classics, "Heat accumulation in the Lower Jiao leads to difficult defecation." However, there are also cases where post-illness deficiency of Qi and Blood, internal loss of body fluids, or advanced age with sluggish Qi flow, combined with the clash of cold and heat pathogens, also result in difficult defecation.
