Discussion states: The Kidney governs water metabolism, while the Spleen and Stomach both govern Earth (transformation and transportation). Earth controls Water. The Stomach is the sea of water and grain; if its Qi is deficient, it cannot transmit and transform water Qi, causing water Qi to infiltrate the fu-organs and zang-organs. Furthermore, when the Spleen is affected by dampness-water, if Earth Qi is weak and fails to control it, water Qi will exclusively return to the Kidney. With Kidney deficiency and failure of the Sanjiao (Triple Burner) to excrete, along with blocked meridians and collaterals, water Qi overflows into the skin and flows through the four limbs, resulting in generalized edema. The clinical manifestations include upper body qi stagnation, heaviness of the body, yellow and astringent urine, and pitting edema that rebounds immediately upon pressure release.
