Discourse states: Patients with deficiency consumptive disease (Xu Lao) have coldness in the Middle Jiao, which prevents the digestion of food. When cold qi enters the Stomach, it causes obstruction and fullness, leading to a blockage of Qi mechanism. Consequently, although they may be able to eat, the Stomach cannot receive or transform it, causing Qi to rebel upwards. This results in vomiting, hiccups, epigastric oppression, restlessness, and a sensation of rebellion and fullness below the heart (epigastrium).
For treating deficiency consumptive disease manifesting as chest fullness, rebellious Qi, vomiting, and inability to retain food, use Qianhu Tang (Peucedani Radix Decoction):
Qian Hu (Peucedani Radix, remove rhizome, 3 fen), Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix, remove seedlings), Jie Geng (Platycodonis Radix, stir-fried), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Chi Fu Ling (Poria with Red Core, remove black skin, each 0.5 liang), Da Fu Pi (Arecae Pericarpium, 3 pieces).
The above eight herbs are coarsely crushed and sieved. For each dose, take 5 qian bi, add 1.5 zhan of water and 1 fen of Pao Sheng Jiang (Prepared Ginger, smashed), decoct until 1 zhan remains, strain, and take warm in two divided doses on an empty stomach.
For treating deficiency consumptive disease causing disharmony of the Spleen and Stomach, rebellious vomiting with phlegm-saliva, use Pipa Ye Tang (Loquat Leaf Decoction):
Pi Pa Ye (Eriobotryae Folium, brush off hairs and roast), Qian Hu (Peucedani Radix, remove rhizome, each 3 fen), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, each 1 liang 1 fen), Bai Fu Ling (Poria, remove black skin), Gan Cao (Licorice Root, stir-fried with ginger juice), Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix, remove forks), Bie Jia (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum, soak in vinegar, roast, remove skirt), Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Mu Tong (Akebiae Caulis, cut into small pieces), Jing San Leng (Curcumae Radix, simmer), Wu Wei Zi (Schisandrae Fructus, stir-fried), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, slice and dry-roast), Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix), Mu Dan Pi (Moutan Cortex), Gan Cao (Licorice Root, stir-fried and cut), Zhi Ke (Aurantii Fructus, remove pith and stir-fry with bran), Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, slice and dry-roast), Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, soak in hot water seven times to remove slipperiness, then dry-roast), Huo Xiang (Agastaches Herba).
The above twenty-five herbs are coarsely crushed and sieved. For each dose, take 5 qian bi, add 1.5 zhan of water, 1 fen of Pao Sheng Jiang (Prepared Ginger, smashed), and one Zao (Jujube, split), decoct until 1 zhan remains, strain, and take warm at any time.
For treating deficiency consumptive disease causing weak Spleen and Stomach Qi with vomiting, dry mouth with irritability and thirst, inability to eat, and pain in the four limbs, use Nong Po Wan (Magnolia Bark Pill):
