Discussion states: Xu Lao (Deficiency Consumption) and Lei Shou (Emaciation) refer to the damage of Qi in the five Zang organs. The Classics state: First degree of damage affects the skin and hair, manifesting as wrinkled skin and falling hair; second degree affects blood vessels, manifesting as deficient and scanty blood vessels unable to nourish the five Zang and six Fu organs; third degree affects muscles, manifesting as emaciated muscles where food intake fails to transform into muscle tissue; fourth degree affects sinews, manifesting as lax sinews with inability to control movement; fifth degree affects bones, manifesting as bone weakness and inability to rise from bed.
